Old Town Baptist Church - A church leading

people to become fully committed followers of Christ

It is hard to believe, but Christmas is fast approaching! Here at Old Town, we are already hard at work preparing for our “Christmas

At Old Town” Dinner Theater. As you might have noticed, we are doing some things a bit differently this year. Our Dinner Theater

has always been a success and we want to build on that legacy in order to share the gospel with as many people as we can. So, here is

a quick list of some of the changes for 2014.

1. Wednesday night December 10th is the first night of the Dinner Theater and we are calling this “All Church Night”. This evening

we will focus on celebrating together as a church family. While visitors are certainly welcome, we wanted to specify Wednesday

night as more of an “in-reach”.

2. We want to use the following evenings of the dinner theater (Friday, December 12th, Saturday December 13 th, and Sunday Decem-

ber 14th) as a very focused “outreach” opportunity. If you decide to attend the dinner theater one of those evenings, please invite

several people who do not know Christ. Those who do not regularly attend church are often more receptive during the Christmas sea-

son and we do not want to miss such a valuable opportunity.

Ephesians 5:15

15 Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise,

16 making the most of your time, because the days are evil.

3. The meal, the pre-service music, and the Dinner Theater will be exactly the same each night. That way, you will not feel like you

need to attend every night in order to enjoy a different meal or hear different music. Instead, you can enjoy everything for yourself on

“All Church Night” and then come back another night with some friends who do not know Jesus.

4. This year we are planning to provide childcare (birth to 4 years old) during each night of the Dinner Theater. However, we are

also doing that a little differently-so please read this carefully.

- Childcare will start once dinner has been completed. Children will eat dinner with their parents in the CLC and

will then be dismissed to childcare.

-If you, or someone that you invite, will need childcare, please call the church office and make a reservation for your

child/children. We need to have an accurate head count so that we can secure the right number of workers.

While this Christmas is a little different, our mission is the same.

Let us proclaim the love of our Savior to all of the world!

This Christmas is Different

Good News! It’s Not Too Late!

It’s not too late to get your family photo in the directory!

If you would like to submit a photo of your family to be placed in the

directory please contact Betty Huff at 760-1571

by Wednesday, November 5th.

Worship Care….

Thank you to those who signed up in October and November for Worship

Care. This is one of the best ways you can be a part of these children’s Christian

lives……by humming a tune while rocking a baby, reading Bible story books to

little ones, or assisting with a puzzle of Jesus and the children. Thank you for

making a difference!

October was a 4 week month requiring

102 volunteers. November is a 5 week

month, requiring 130 volunteers!

OTBCC…..

Old Town Baptist Children’s Center is one of many ministries

of Old Town Baptist Church and continues to reach the community.

At least 18 of our current 61 students in Pre-School and Before/After

School care are either attending or visiting Old Town Baptist

Church! With excellent teachers creating curriculum around

Biblical teaching, we are meeting the needs academically and spiritu-

ally for each child. Thank you for your continued prayers and sup-

port for the Children’s Center.

Share the Blessings with Neighbors in Need

Annual Thanksgiving Basket Ingathering

Collection through November 23

Share your material blessings with our neighbors in need this Holiday season. We are collecting non-perishable food items as well as turkeys for use in preparing 25 Thanksgiving Baskets. Perishable items like butter and milk will be purchased through your gifts to the Acts One 8 Challenge offering. This year, we pan to deliver the baskets to the families we serve. If you are interested in helping make deliveries, please contact Pastor Joe or Pastor Mark. A brief delivery instruction meeting will occur on Sunday, November 23 immediately after Awakening worship (12:15) in the Multi-Purpose Room. A display – with cards to show items needed and to remind us of our commitments – as well as a drop-off point is located near the Media Center. All items are due by November 23.

Angel Tree: Give the Gift of Christmas

Give the Gift of Christmas to a child whose parent is incarcerated in a local prison. The children and parents will celebrate with a Christmas Party during which the gifts will be given. You can provide the gift of a toy or clothing as well as the Good News about Jesus to one of these families through “Angel Tree”. Simply take your angel from the tree then enjoy shopping for your special child. This is a wonderful way for families or Sunday school classes to give the Gift of Christmas. Gifts should be placed under the Christmas Tree near the Media Center by December 7. This ministry is provided through the Forsyth Jail and Prison Ministry.

Collection Dates: November 23 – December 7

Week of Prayer for International Missions: November 30 – December 7

Season of Giving to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering – through December

In His perfect plan to redeem all peoples, God continues to call His people to advance His Gospel among all nations, together, in one sacred effort. From a song stage in Sweden to pregnancy health classes in Southeast Asia, IMB missionaries find creative and effective ways to meet people where they are. And they are grateful for Southern Baptists’ prayers that empower them to share Jesus with those who don’t know Him.

Southern Baptists send missionaries through IMB to go into the world making disciples in the name of Jesus. In that partnership, Southern Baptist churches provide the funding to send and support these missionaries and their ministries. The more resources they provide, the more missionaries can be sent.

“As the body of Christ, we’re like an orchestra … each member is so vital, is so important for making beautiful music. So just like your pray-ing and giving is so important in us coming to Sweden, we can work together … through sharing his love with others,” church planter/musician Anissa Haney says.

Making Jesus Known Locally to Globally

Our Acts One 8 Challenge partner of the month is the Old Town Medical Mission. This ‘in-house’, ‘homegrown’ mission touches the lives of hundreds of neighbors – showing and sharing the love of Jesus – by providing quality medical care the 1st and 3rd Monday each month. This mission outreach involves more of our church members and friends than any other single mission outreach we do together. The faithful volunteers (medical and non-medical personnel) along with our prayers for the Medical Mission and gifts to the “Acts One 8 Challenge” offering enable us to make Jesus known locally through our bi-monthly medical clinic. Praise the Lord for His work through this important mission action!

November

Our Student Ministry is seeing God do some incredible things! Over the past several weeks we

have been actively engaging both the Old Town and the Waughtown community. On the 2nd

and 4th Wednesdays of every month we are going to a multi-unit housing complex in the

Waughtown area. We have been going into 4 different homes and conducting Bible Studies for

Kindergarten-aged children all the way to adults. We have had anywhere from 40 – 60 people

in attendance coming and it has been a great time. Our students have been leading these studies

and they as well as the people attending seem to be having a great time. So far we have taught

lessons on The Bible in general form Psalms, Creation, and the Fall. On October 29th we held a

community Halloween Festival where we had inflatables, hot dogs, games, prizes, candy, and a

Gospel presentation to those in attendance. We are so blessed that God allows us to be ambas-

sadors of Him and to shine light throughout this community.

We are also gearing up for our Fall Retreat in early November. This retreat is at Camp Willow Run on Lake Gaston, North

Carolina. It is a beautiful place with all kinds of fun activities and powerful worship and teaching. This year’s Retreat focuses

on the Gospel being the only way to God and how we should live in light of its truth. It’s sure to be an awesome time and we

would love your prayers for our students and this retreat.

Dear OTBC Family,

Thank you for honoring my dad with the flowers

that you gave for his visitation and funeral. You

have been faithful to my family since 1962, so I

cannot begin to thank you for the lifetime of ser-

outside for the festival.

Wow…it’s November…November!!! Hard to believe that we only have one more month left in 2014! Now starts

the “busy” time of year for most of us…it is my prayer though, even during all the busyness, that our focus will remain on

Jesus and what He has done for us and sharing His love with others in our lives!

Fall Festival Community Outreach will be taking place on Wednesday, November 5th from 6:00-8:00PM. This

will be a special time for us to love on people from our community and share the love of Jesus with them. We will start

serving OTBC folks dinner starting at 5:00PM so we can eat and then be ready to serve the community when they come in

to eat from 6:00-6:30PM. We will have a special presentation immediately following dinner in the CLC and will then

head outside for Trunk-or-Treat, inflatables, cotton candy and other fun things. Even if you have not signed up to provide

a trunk to give out candy or treats you can still show up and do it. We need more trunks! We need help with other things

too, so please just show up and help, even if it’s only for an hour or so. Please consider joining us on that night as we

reach out to our community and share the love and hope that is only found in Jesus. Thank you to all those who have al-

ready agreed to help out. It’s going to be a great night!

Sunday School & Children’s Worship (Sunday mornings) for ages 3-5th grade (Small Town, Mid Town & Big

Town), are going great. We are continuing through The Gospel Project and have currently been learning about the mira-

cles that Jesus performed. We will continue to not have a separate children’s worship time on the last Sunday of each

month. This has been a special time for us to all come together as one big family and allow families to all worship togeth-

er.

Awana (Sunday evenings from 5:45-7:15) for ages 2-5th grade (Puggles, Cubbies, Sparks & T&T) are still going

great. We now have close to 80 children attending Awana for the 2014-2015 year. Speaking of Awana...we just wrapped

up our collection of items for Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. We collected a lot of items. We are going to be

stuffing close to 40 shoeboxes during PowerUp time on Wednesday evening with the help of some very special visitors!

We have some more exciting theme nights coming this month, such as Glow-in-the-Dark-Night, special collection for the

Bread of Life Food Pantry, Dots & Stripes Night, as well as a special Pot-Luck on November 23rd. We will also have our

very own Awana missionary, David Roach here to visit one evening as well.

On Wednesday evenings…we are continuing to have our Music & Missions time for our children from ages 3

through 5th grade from 6:30-7:30: Praise Pals (3 yr. olds - Kindergarten) and Power Up! (1st-5th grades). The children are

continuing to learn Christmas songs that they will share on Sunday evening, December 7th and then also on each evening

of the Dinner Theater (Wed., Dec. 10th, Fri., Dec. 12th, Sat., Dec. 13th & Sun., Dec. 14th). The Power Up group will also be

traveling to a local retirement home to share Candles of Christmas with them too. We are continuing to see the children

learn more about Jesus and His love for his people and how we can reach out and share His love with those around us.

Mark your calendars now for CentriKid Camp, which is for students that have completed 3rd through 5th grade.

We will be at Gardner-Webb University from July 6th-10th. The total cost for camp will be $180. A deposit of $90 will be

due by February 1st and the remaining balance of $90 will be due by June 1st. Hope all our 3rd through 5th graders will be

able to join us. CentriKid is always a blast!

I’m very excited that we will again be having a Junior Co-Ed Basketball Team (Grades 4-6) this year in the

Hoops4Him league. It is going to be a fun season. They will practice (most weeks) on Tuesdays from 5:45-7:00 in the

CLC. Their games will be played, mostly on Saturday mornings, at College Park Baptist. Look for more information to

follow in the bulletin and on our church and OTBC KidzTown Facebook pages. You are all invited to come and cheer on

the team.

One VERY IMPORTANT closing thought…did you know that it takes around 90 volunteers (yes, 90!!!) to

spend time with, share Jesus with and love on the children of OTBC during the services on Sundays and Wednesdays…

from nursery to Small Town to Mid Town to Big Town to Puggles to Cubbies to Sparks to T&T to Praise Pals to Power

Up and more! It definitely takes lots of wonderful volunteers to make things happen when it comes to our children's min-

istries. We do have really great volunteers, however we are always looking for more folks to join us and are really in great

need at this time. Have you considered helping out? We can definitely use some more help in our worship care minis-

try...that is our greatest and most pressing need at this time. Please consider helping out. You can contact me or Linda

Barham to help fill one of the many spots that we have for November and the coming months.

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement! Please contact Mrs. Shannon with any questions that

you may have either by calling the church office or by E-mail at [email protected]. Hope you have a very special

November!
