TheineffectivenatureofsacrificescanbeseenmostclearlythroughtheJewishDayofAtonement
- That’sadayonwhichaspecialsinofferingwasmadeforthewholenation- What’sstrikingisthatthisritualhadtoberepeatedannually

Why?Becausethepeoplewereinastateofsin,andnoanimalsacrificecouldultimatelyremovetheirguilt
- Therewasnoperfectsacrifice- Iftherehadbeen,thepeoplecouldhavestoppedofferingthem(Heb10:1-3)
Instead,theseimperfectsacrificesemphasizedthefactthatGodisholy,thatsinseparatesusfromGod,andthatheprovidesawayofforgiveness
- SotheOldTestamentexploressomanydifferentpotentialsolutionstotheproblemofsin,butultimatelycomesupempty-handed
- That’sonereasonwhyitisbookendedwithGod’scurseThinkofGenesis3:becauseofsin,Godcursestheserpent,theman,andthewoman
