Laudetur Jesus Christus! Gelobt sei Jesus Christus! Sia lodato Gesù Cristo! Praised be Jesus Christ!

I would like to thank all those who took time out to help undecorate our churches from Christmas. Your help was really invaluable and made everything go much smoother, thank you!! I want to also thank everyone for their prayers as we conducted our search for our Office Manager

position. This person will work to make more efficient our office operations and assist me with the care and stability of our two parishes. We had over 150 people send in a resume for this position. Many were well qualified, but we were un-fortunately only able to hire one. After combing through all the resumes and conducting interviews, I am pleased to announce that our new office manager started this past week. Mr. James O'Shaughnessy has accepted the position and began work on February 5 when he was introduced to the staff. Jim is a parishioner of St. Ann Parish in Grosbeck. He brings a strong back-ground in finances, having worked at US Bank as Central Accounting Manager and Operations Manager in the lend-ing department. He has also worked at Fifth Third Bank as a Global Funds Transfer Manager. Jim brings many years of experience and also has a bach-elor of arts degree in Business Management. He and his wife Beth live in Colerain Township. I welcome Jim to our par-ishes, and I ask you to welcome him as well! He will be mak-ing the rounds to various Masses and events to meet people and introduce himself.

It is important to note that the role of the pastor is di-vided into three essential roles. They can be summed up in these words: To teach, govern, and sanctify. Regarding Jim, he will specifically be aiding me in the governance office, to free me up to also focus on teaching and sanctifying. Though our parishes are on the smaller side, all work is duplicated, and we have aging buildings. With more and more regulation, it becomes difficult to keep up to ensure everything is being done right. Jim will particu-larly be helpful in assisting me in these areas, in addition to managing our secretarial and maintenance staff. I will not be absent from this area, as this remains an integral part of my role as pastor. However, I do not need to personally oversee every detail as this has become very time consuming and not the best use of my time for you. I look forward to working with Jim and for you to get to know him. We will be making some changes to make us work and operate more efficiently, professionally, and with better stewardship of our treasure. The true treasure of the Church, however, are the souls entrusted to it. I hope that this new position will allow me to focus on the formation of our future priests in the seminari-ans of the Oratory, in building up and growing our parishes, giving me time to focus more on my homilies and teaching, and to devote more time for the salvation of souls. Thank you to each of you for your commitment to our parishes. Please also ensure that you often look after your souls. Our parishes can only be truly successful when the souls of the parishioners are on their way to sanctity. Have a blessed week ahead!

Catechesis What is a Pastor? This term denotes a priest who has the cure of souls (cura animarum), that is, who is bound in virtue of his office to pro-mote the spiritual welfare of the faithful by preaching, admin-istering the sacraments, and exercising certain powers of exter-nal government, e.g., the right of supervision, giving precepts, imposing light corrections — powers rather paternal in their nature, and differing from those of a bishop, which are legisla-tive, judicial, and coactive. A pastor is properly called a parish-priest (parochus) when he exercises the cure of souls in his own name with regard to a determined number of subjects who are obliged to apply to him for the reception of certain sacraments specified in the law. Pastors, besides having rights, have also obligations. They must preach and take care of the religious instruction of the faithful, especially of the young, supply their spiritual needs by the administration of the sacraments, reside in their parish or mission, administer diligently the property entrusted to their care, watch over the moral conduct of their parishioners, and remove, as far as possible, all hindrances to their salvation.

From Sinners to ApostlesSaint John Paul II wrote the following words to all women who have had abortions: “The Father of mercies is ready to give you his forgiveness and his peace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. To the same Father and to his mercy you can with sure hope entrust your child. With the friendly and expert help and advice of other people, and as a re-sult of your own painful experience, you can be among the most eloquent defenders of everyone's right to life. Through your commitment to life, whether by accepting the birth of other children or by welcoming and caring for those most in need of someone to be close to them, you will become promoters of a new way of looking at human life.” (The Gospel of Life, n.99) Please pray for a girl named Danielle, the sister of one of our clients, who is planning to abort her twins. Pray that she will choose life! Thank you!
