Flying Wild Hog, Devolver Digital, OVERKILL and Starbreeze have announced a special crossover event between first-person shooter standouts Shadow Warrior 2 and PAYDAY 2. The crossover event includes two PAYDAY 2 weapons and the iconic Dallas mask introduced into Shadow Warrior 2 while Lo Wang’s trademark katana and several demon masks have made their way into PAYDAY 2.

From January 24 to February 13, ring in the Lunar New Year with a batch of festive treats for your heroes during a new Overwatch® event: Year of the Rooster!

The newest Overwatch event brings to players a brand new game mode, new loot boxes, and flashy skins and emote guffins to salivate over. The debuting “Capture the Rooster” plays upon the classic capture the flag game modes of the first person shooter genre with the mechanics of Overwatch. It will require teamwork, skill, and pure adrenaline as teams now must protect their flag holder as well as their support heroes.

The new loot brings along new seasonal relevant skins to Mei, D.VA, Zenyatta, Winston and more which revolve around the Lunar New Year and the Chinese Year of the Rooster. It’s pleasing to see Blizzard address less obvious events of the year in such a massive way. Players are accustomed to seeing Christmas, St. Patricks Day, and Easter celebratory gaming events in every other universe. A nice surprise from Blizzard to keep things fresh with an annual event that isn’t capitalised as often as others. And, of course, the skins are beautifully vibrant and desirable. After the controversy over some of the legendary skins in the Christmas event (Mei’s skin in particular), their focus on getting it right this time round is noticed.

And of course, along with the update, Jeff Kaplan has invited us to watch another developer update video which discusses the updates in detail, Blizzard’s choices and decision making for certain aspects, and their future desires in development. Rounding the video off with a simple yet underlying snarkily said, “be nice to each other”. It’s great to see a developer so open and public about their ideas and ambitions, particularly with such a big eSports game like Overwatch.

Oh, and gamers receive one free loot box to begin with. Who doesn’t like free?

Bandai Namco have released a brand spanking new trailer at Tokyo Game Show 2016 for the home-port of Tekken 7.

Originally slated to release back in 2015/early 2016 soon after the release of the arcade version, Tekken 7 has been under development for home-play for quite some time, and has now seen some hype through the TGS 2016 trailer.

Showcasing a few new challengers and classic favourites, Lucky Chloe and Claudio Serafino along with Heihachi and Kazuya. Akuma from Street Fighter fame is also highlighted as a playable character in the upcoming release.

Tekken 7 is releasing for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam in early 2017.

Fumito Ueda’s highly anticipated successor to Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian has (once again) received a delay.

The PS4 exclusive release was recently delayed until December 6 2016 release date after it previous October 26 release. This isn’t the first delay the public has been hit with for The Last Guardian. It seems the title has been under development hell for many years, being originally planned to release as far back as 2011.

Hope remains strong within the hearts of Ueda and Team Ico fans, still ambitious of the final product’s awe and wonder that was delivered in the predecessor hits. Ico (2001) focused itself on a “boy meets girl” concept action-adventure with puzzle-platforming elements. Shadow of the Colossus (2005) improved upon the formula receiving critical acclaim for an epic experience of purely boss battles with gigantic stone-beasts, all with individual platforming and puzzles among a vast landscape. The Last Guardian presents what seems a mix of the two, presenting a protagonist with a fantastical beast companion named “Trico”, adapting a similar art-style to the previous but with current generation graphics. Understanding the desire for success from fans isn’t difficult, however with rocky releases of No Man’s Sky and Duke Nukem Forever as examples, should they be so optimistic?
