OKLAHOMA SECONDARY SCHOOLS ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (OSSAA)Student Athletes

You are NOT Eligible...

1. If you reach nineteen (19) years of age prior to September 1; sixteen (16) prior to September 1 for 9th graders; fifteen (15) prior to September 1 for 8th grades; and fourteen (14) prior to September 1 for 7th graders. Rule #1

2. If you do not have a physical exam and a parental consent certificate on file with the principal (athletic department).

Rule #13. If you have not attended classes ninety (90) percent of the time

for the current semester. Rule #24. If you are... a) failing one or more classes on consecutive weeks during a

semester, b) did not do passing work in at least five subjects (6 on Block

Schedule) that count towards graduation the last semester of attendance. (A 12th grade student must be passing the classes required for graduation. The number of classes can be no less than four.) Rule #3

5. If you do not follow the code of conduct established by your school and are consequently placed under discipline as a result of reflecting discredit upon your school. Rule #4

6. If you are a member of any organization in violation of the State Laws of Oklahoma or the regulations of any local board of education. Rule #4

7. If you enter a contest under an assumed name. Rule #48. If you have violated the amateur rule a) by using your knowledge or skill as an athlete for financial

gain, or b) by being compensated for your participation in physical

activities with professionals or where professionalism is practiced, or

c) if your team or their sponsors are compensated or reimbursed on a win or loss basis, or

d) if you accept cash or usable merchandise other than trophies, medals, or plaques given to individuals or team. Rule #5

9. If you have completed requirements for graduation in an Oklahoma School District or its equivalent in another state or country. Rule #6

10. If you have participated or had the opportunity to participate in any sports for all, or part of, four (4) seasons beginning with the ninth (9) grade. Rule #7

11. If you participate in any inter-school contest as a member of the varsity, junior varsity, “B” team, etc. while not eligible. Additional penalties may be placed on you and the school. An inter-school scrimmage is considered to be a contest. Rule #7

12. If you have attended more than eight (8) semesters after entering the ninth (9) grade. Rule #7

13. If you are repeating the seventh and/or eighth grades. Rule #714. If more than one residence is maintained by your parents for

the purpose of circumventing the residence rule. Rule #815. If you and your parents do not live in the school district in which

you attend school unless you are a legal student and have met the residence requirements (one semester), or unless your residence situation has been approved by the O.S.S.A.A. by a hardship waiver. Rule #8

16. If you participate in a school district other than where your parents live, you are ineligible at all other schools including the school of the district where your parents reside, unless you have met the residence requirement (two semesters) and you are a legal student. Rule #8

17. If you or your parents have been influenced to move from one school to another in order to participate in athletics. (The student will not be eligible until reinstated by the Board of Directors.) Rule #8

18. If you are a foreign exchange student from a program that is not approved by the council on standards for International Education Travel. Eligibility for foreign exchange students shall be limited to a 365-day period. Rule #8

19. If you violate the beginning or end of the season rule. Rule #1520. If you are in violation of the summer camp, summer league or

summer practice regulations. Rule #10

Athletic grooming standards for all athletes:a. Facial hair is not permitted for athletes. The athletic director

must approve any exceptions to this rule.b. Piercing of body parts is not permitted for any athletes.

An exception would be that athletes are permitted to have ear piercing, but earrings may not be worn during practice, competition or travel to and from events.

c. Tattoos and brands will not be visible on athletes at anytime.d. Hair must be kept neat and appropriate, as defined by the

Athletic Director for athletic competition at all times.e. Athletes should always dress appropriately for whatever

activity they are involved in.

Lettering in Athletics (General Requirements)a. A Senior boy or girl athlete who has participated in two previous

years may be Lettered on citizenship, attitude, desirable work, loyalty and good attendance at practice if he/she does not meet the requirements set forth for that particular sport.

b. The student must remain in the sport the full season.c. The student must attend all practices unless his/her absence

has been cleared beforehand with the coach.NOTE: Any situation not covered by the above-mentioned items will be left to the discretion of the Coach and Athletic Director.

ATHLETIC POINTS OF INTEREST

Lettering in Athletics (Specific requirements) a. Baseball: Play two or more innings in over one-half the games.b. Basketball: Participate in one-half of the varsity games.c. Softball: Play two or more innings in one-half the games.d. Golf: Participate in 75% of all matches or qualify for Regional

or State Tournament.e. Gymnastics: *average 7.6 on all events attempted (Equivalent

to U.S.G.F. State qualification scores).f. Football: *Seniors and juniors who participate in Varsity

workouts and suit up for Varsity games. *Sophomore players may be lettered at the discretion of the Head Coach.

g. Soccer: Play in one-half the varsity matches.h. Swimming: *Place in Conference meet. *Qualify for State meet.i. Tennis: *Play in one-half of the matches *Qualify for State

Tournament.j. Track/Cross Country: Lettering in track and cross-country is

determined by points, participation and major meets (regional, state, etc) at the discretion of the Head Coach.

k. Volleyball: Play in one-half of the varsity games.l. Wrestling: *Wrestle two-thirds of the total dual matches. *Score

at least 25 team points. *Wrestle in the State Tournament.m. Cheerleading: Any varsity cheerleader who participates in

practices/games and is an active participant in the state and/or National Varsity competition squad is eligible to letter.

(See Rule 8) INCORRECT INFORMATION COULD CAUSE ELIGIBILITY TO BE REVOKED AND COULD RESULT IN THE FORFEITURE OF CONTESTS IN WHICH THE STUDENT HAS PARTICIPATED IN ADDITION TO OTHER PENALTIES.

Each school must have the following information on file: 1. Copy of this eligibility record form. (Send copy to OSSAA office with hardship request.) 2. Physical examination and an annual parent consent form. (Rule 1) 3. Attendance record for current 18-week grading period. (Rule 2) 4. Transcript and any other documentation regarding student's eligibility status.

If the student answers no to all of the above questions, you can be reasonably assured he/she is eligible (residence) to participate at your school. This is only an aid to the administrators concerning new students in your school system and does not automaticallyguarantee a student is eligible. If the student answers yes to any of the questions, further examination is required to determineeligibility status. NOTE: Any outstanding athlete transferring to your district should not be certified for athletic participation without complete information being obtained from all sources concerning the student's athletic eligibility.
