Okeechobee is buzzing. In addition to our normal population and yearly winter visitors, we are host to a large

amount of bass fishing fanatics. There are bass fishermen from all over North America vis-iting our small piece of the world for a taste of the United States best bass fishing. We are so very fortunate that our new friends chose Okeechobee as their winter vacation spot. The lines at the grocery stores are longer and trav-eling around town is congested, but it is a very

small price to pay when you consider the huge economic boost these new friends provide for every business in our town. We welcome you to Okeechobee and hope you will tell your friends about our great community and incred-ible bass fishing when you return home. Enjoy your stay in our little piece of heaven.

Fishing is up and down with the weather this time of year. The cold fronts will hurt the bite for a few days then when the water warms ups

the bite turns back on. Artificial bait fishermen are racking up some huge catches of big fish when the water is right with 30 to 35 lb. 5 fish limits of fish being the norm.

Specks anglers are scoring in the Kissimmee River using minnows under a small bobber. Some anglers are upping their catch by trolling their baits slowly up and down productive ar-eas. Lake anglers are using small jigs to catch large specks from the heavy cover areas of the lake, hydrilla, eel grass, pepper grass and Kis-simmee grass are all good cover areas to look for. Some of the larger fish are coming from the very thickest impenetrable cover where landing fish is very difficult.
