Some much-needed rain has helped to stabilize the water level, although we are still at a

very low level (11.59 feet). Wheth-er you fish for bass, blue gill, shell cracker or specks, the catching is good.

Anglers pursuing bass are catching big numbers of fish whether they are using live bait or artificial baits. The bigger bass being caught are falling prey to a wild shiner, but artificial baits are yielding larger numbers of bass. Flukes, Senkos, skinny dippers, Trixie Sharks and top-water baits are all drawing a great amount of strikes daily. The water temperatures are ap-proaching 80 degrees, and the fish are having to feed constantly to keep their metabolism going.

If you have the time and want to catch 100 bass, it can be done. As the daytime temperatures rise the fish are starting to seek heavy cover areas

during the middle of the day. We had several mornings that provided us with as good of a top-water bite as you can get. Many of the bass being caught are small. If you don’t have small bass, you don’t have big bass.

Our fishery is showing that it is very healthy right now. We have been watching a flock of white pelicans for the past week as they assemble in the marsh. They are feeding and resting for their long journey back to the north. The flock has grown to an estimated 300 birds and is a great sight to see. Duck, herons, ibis and many other species of birds abound in the marsh areas. If you love nature and bird life, you truly must see the amazing show going on around the lake.
