Blue gill and shell cracker are starting to

make their presence known around the big lake. The bite is still hit-and-miss for the most part with anglers catch-ing limits one day and blanking the next. The fish are moving into the areas where they are going to spawn and are holding on the out-side of bedding areas or hard cover lines. Red worms, crickets and grass shrimp are the pri-mary baits for panfish. Grass shrimp are the best early season bait, using the tiny shrimp in-sures that you can catch whatever fish are in the

area. Many times we have caught blue gill, shell cracker, specks, catfish and bass all on grass shrimp in the a same area. As we ap-proach the new moon and later in the month a full moon look for pan-fish to be actively bed-ding. Spawning areas are usually quite easy for this with good eyes and great sunglasses. Bass fishing is getting better daily as the wa-ter warms. There is a tremendous amount of shad in the lake and bass are feeding heav-ily on them. Artificial baits or shiners will both get all the bites you desire.
