The Kissimmee River continues to churn out im-pressive catches of bass for those anglers not wanting to venture into the lake. The lake fi-

nally rose above 10 feet this week, a level that is still treacherous for running in the ultra-shallow water of the lake.

Top-water baits, crank baits and Carolina rigs are all drawing strikes. Schooling bass can be found in areas of current flow. Watch for the fish chasing bait on the top and make long cast to them with a rattling type lip-less crank bait or a top water bait that resembles the shad or minnows they are chasing. It will serve you well if you can stay a long distance from the schooling action so you do not spook the fish and cause them to quit feeding. Many times it is possible to catch a large number of bass from a school if they don’t spook. If the bass do not appear on the surface again use a Caro-lina rig or Texas rigged plastic to entice them to strike closer to the bottom.

Blue gill are still being caught in the local canals on grass shrimp or crickets. Anglers using air boats are still finding blue gill in the very shallow water in the lake. Good numbers of pan fish can still be found in the shallows around the new and full moon phases
