OKABE’s Approaches and Initiatives Regarding Each ESG Measure
Description OKABE’s approach and initiatives
Environment
Global warming
⃝ In the construction-related products business, we are helping to reduce CO2 emissions by providing labor-saving products.
⃝ In the marine business, we are helping to reduce CO2 levels through use of fish reefs where seaweed is grown.
Natural environment
⃝ In the automotive products business, we are discharging wastewater in compliance with laws and regulations through use of world-leading environmentally-sound facilities.
Waste management
⃝ In the construction-related products business, we appropriately dispose of waste materials such as scrap metal generated from manufacturing materials through scrap processing and so forth.
⃝ In the automotive products business, 99% of our raw materials use recycled lead. In addition, we contribute to waste reduction, having achieved a rate of raw material loss of nearly 0%.
Opportunities in the environmental market
⃝ In the construction-related products business, we help bring about a greener environment by providing free frame method.
⃝ In the marine business, we are helping to introduce more vegetation to the oceans through use of fish reefs where seaweed is grown.
Society
Humanresources
⃝ Adopting our corporate creed of “we will endeavor to cultivate human resources for sustainable development” and “the Group will be a workplace that employees will not regret devoting their lives to,” as our basic policy, we have been promoting efforts to develop personnel and create better working conditions.
Safety of products and services
⃝ We stand thoroughly committed to manufacturing and quality control of products with extensive safety features, and accordingly implement our management philosophy of “contributing to society by providing safety and security.”
⃝ We have drawn up policies for appropriate purchasing which ensure that purchases are made in a fair and transparent manner, and otherwise involve neither leveraging superior bargaining positions nor engaging in improper transactions.
Stakeholder management
⃝ We endeavor to enhance our corporate value by heightening our capital efficiency in accordance with Japan’s Corporate Governance Code.
Governance
Corporategovernance
⃝ Our efforts to make the Board of Directors more effective have included electing two Outside Directors and establishing the Audit and Supervisory Committee.
Corporate conduct
⃝ We distribute our employee code of conduct and compliance regulations to all employees, and raise awareness of such content among them. In so doing, we implement internal controls and promote corporate conduct that reflects our high ethical standards, particularly in terms of ensuring fair competition and preventing accounting fraud.
“Contributing to society by providing safety and security.”This is the management philosophy that OKABE has consistently adhered to ever since it was founded. We aspire to have our technologies and products be a “force” protecting people’s way of life even in times of disaster or accident. We hope they will help to protect the earth’s irreplaceable environment. We have been helping to develop a prosperous society worldwide, drawing on our technological strengths thus far accumulated over more than 100 years.

We expanded in to the mar ine business where we help protect mar ine resources th rough the manufacturing and sales of fish reefs and algal reefs.
2000
Expanded into the marine business
Protection of marine resources
This is a method for reinforcing embankments in a manner consistent with the natural environment by enabling vegetation to be placed on sloped surfaces.
1975

Adding vegetation
We expanded into the automotive products business on a full-scale basis, drawing on the knowledge of metals processing we have gained through our construction-related products business. Through this business , we contr ibute to the environment and society in part by bringing about greater automotive safety through environmental ly sound manufacturing methods and high-quality products.
2005
Expanded into the automotive battery
terminal manufacturing business
Environmentally sound and greater automotive safety
This method enhances the capacity of buildings to withstand earthquakes by supporting steel frame foundations.
1986
Launched sales of basepack

S Just like buildings, automobiles are also an infrastructure supporting a prosperous society, and they are also required to be “safe and secure” in the same way. While we will naturally pursue quality through advanced manufacturing technologies, we will also aim to be the world’s leading battery terminal manufacturer while giving proper consideration to industrial safety and environmental healthiness of the workplace, to health and productivity management for our employees, and to the environment.
We provide building structural materials that offer safety and security through earthquake proofing and seismic isolation, as well as construction materials that contribute to society and the environment through labor savings, in part by shortening construction lead times, addressing labor shortages, and reducing CO2 emissions. We have also been working on environmental civil engineering, such as the free frame method, which enables reinforcement of embankments while simultaneously adding vegetation. Looking ahead, we will continue to promote the development of products that contribute to society and the environment.

In 2000 we made a full-fledged entry into the marine business, aiming to protect and develop marine resources. We will strive to expand the marine business even further, concentrating on floating fish reefs, in which we have the leading market share. We want to make the world’s oceans abundant—inspired by this wish, we will continue striving in the marine business.
We are working toward establishing a corporate governance structure to improve corporate value and fulfill our social responsibility in the future. Moreover, as one of our initiatives to strengthen the business base, we will proactively recruit and cultivate diverse human resources.
