NEW CLUB NIGHT VENUE

Our monthly club nights have now officially moved to the Twisted Oak at Ide. A lot

of members were there on bank holiday last month, so most of you will know where

it is. You can get there through the lanes off Cowick Lane, or the pub is signposted at

the junction on Ide Lane near the A30 bridge. Ride Your Bike Night will start from

the Twisted Oak on the 4th July - get your motorcycle serviced and ready for this.

My Indian will be there to celebrate American Independence Day. Andy Donald

CLUB NEWS

ALAN'S WUXI

This is still for sale, and Ray would be very happy

for someone to buy it and get it out of his garage!

If there are no immediate takers for this fine piece

of machinery Ray has proposed a blind auction.

Bids would be submitted in sealed envelopes, with

a minimum starting price of £50. This auction will

probably be at the Ride Your Bike Night on 4th July. There will also be an auction of

Alan's motorcycle clothing and riding gear.

CLUB FLAGS

The design for the club flags was decided at the last committee meeting, and Chris

Ellis placed the order for two flags with the manufacturers. They have now arrived,

and Chris will be putting them up at the next Club meeting for everyone to see.

POWDERHAM CASTLE HISTORIC VEHICLE SHOW - 9th & 10th July

We have our space booked at the

Powderham show, and 15 passes

for member's motorcycles. Each

pass is for two: rider and

passenger. Dave has written to

the Crash Box Club organisers

about the possibility of extra

tickets should they be needed,

and they have no problem with

extras: "If you require some more, just send amount and monies to us. I can include

them with the others. Do not hesitate if we can be of any further assistance".

Linda and Zoe for Car Clubs CBCC.

We have 15 bikes signed up at the moment. There were several folk absent at the last

club meeting, so Dave has sent out a round robin email offering all members the

chance to sign up. Contact Dave Denham if you would like to book your bike at the

show. He can then order extra passes as necessary.

As usual, there will be a Club barbecue on Saturday evening; organised again this

year by Peter White as I understand. Thanks Peter.

FRANK EVELEIGH IN HOSPITAL

Pete Stockhill has phoned to let me know that Frank Eveleigh has been in intensive

care, with a serious lung problem.

I have attempted to contact Frank’s wife and have left a message on behalf of the

club giving our best wishes and concern etc.

Please hold Frank and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

UPDATE: Frank is now over the worst, and he's back at home. We all wish him a

speedy recovery. Ray Martin

DARTMOOR RUN - 31 July As Ed Freeman has left the club, the

Dartmoor run is now being organised by

Chris Ellis, Dave Denham and Adrian. So

far we have eight entries - hopefully more

by the time you read this.

The café at Okehampton Station is now

confirmed as the place for a coffee stop

and a bacon sandwich. Chris Ellis has

been chattin' up the lady at the café, and

we will all be very welcome on the day.

Mervyn Green has managed to get sponsorship for the run from Exeter Engineering.

They will donate a £50 voucher for their workshop services. This will be given as a

prize to a club member only. Exeter Engineering will have a stand under the canopy

on Exeter Quay at the start and finish of the run. Mervyn said at the last club night

that if anyone has a job for Exeter Engineering he can arrange for them to collect it

from his house: all you have to do is take the job round to Mervyn. See their

advertisement on the next page.

Our friends Devon Freewheelers have said they will try to be at the Quay as well -

provided they are not diverted by other more urgent business!

Treen Motors, Charlotte Street Garage in Crediton are also sponsors of the

Dartmoor Run this year.

As in years past they will provide the back-up van for breakdowns.

 ALAN’S CREAM TEA RIDEOUT

Where? Brimpts Farm, Near Dartmeet, Dartmoor.

When? Sunday 19th

June

Meet? Twisted Oak, Ide: 1pm for 1.30pm start

Distance to Brimpt’s is 28 Miles (no main roads)

Total ride distance approx 56 miles (dependant on return route taken)

Cost of Cream Tea is £5 (other food is available)

This will be a chance for us to remember Alan and the contribution and energy he

gave the club over many years.

The reason for going to Brimpt’s, is that on several occasions Alan said that we ought

to have a rideout to there as their cream teas are a bit special!

We are really pleased that Alan’s widow Margaret, and her daughter Fiona, hope to

join us and they will come by car.

John D, Chris E and Dave D have checked out the route and have seen the owners of

Brimpt’s, who made us feel very welcome, and they are looking forward to our visit.

The ride takes in beautiful scenery and stunning Dartmoor views.

There is a choice of return routes; the one suggested is via Widecombe which takes

us through an exciting water splash! (Well, at least we thought it was exciting!)

The weather is going to be fine!! In the unlikely!! event it is not biking weather we

could go by car.

Look forward to seeing you on the 19th

June.

CLUB RIDE ON 11th MAY

Unfortunately the weather put a stop to the ride.

Six of us turned up at the Cheriton Bishop Coach

House, and only Mervyn was brave enough to

come on a motorcycle.

Anyway, we had few cups of coffee, breakfast and

a chat.

Andy Donald

Left: "What, no other bikes then?" Well done

Mervyn.

CLUB RIDE ON 22nd MAY

Bit of a poor turnout. Ernie B,

John D, Tony (John’s son in law)

and the photographer. Mervyn

biked in from Cullompton and

met us for a chat at Sainsbury’s

which was very nice but he could

not come on the ride due to major

renovation to his bathroom which

needed his attention!

Very nice ride to Seaton led by

John, via Ottery St Mary and

Broad Down. Reasonably priced

coffee at Seaton’s Tesco which was enjoyed in the sun at outside tables. Usual banter

and chat with reminisces about how crazy we were on bikes when we were young

(some of us still are, crazy that is!). The ride back took us via Colyton where we got

caught in the mother and father of a hailstorm complete with thunder! This meant a

somewhat damp ride home and a bike washing session. Still it was a very enjoyable

day, the only question is; where were you all?

Interestingly, there was only one old(ish) bike on the ride (mine). This seems to be

increasingly the pattern with more folk riding modern bikes. Does this mean that the

structure and direction of the club is changing or needs to change in view of declining

membership? Next ride is 8th June (see next page). Dave Denham

NORTON COLLECTION

Nic Drew has proposed a Sunday ride out

to a Norton museum, with 56 Nortons on

display. The museum is near Nomansland,

on the B3137 Tiverton to Witheridge road.

Nic will contact the museum owner when

we have decided if we would like to go,

and come up with some dates for the event.

The oldest motorcycle there is 1914. They

go up to the late 1980s TT bikes.
