OIL WELL A BLAZE!
Definition: Oil well fires are oil
gushers that have caught on
fire, and burn
uncontrollably.
Somewhere around 6 million barrels (950,000 m3) of oil were lost each day.
Eventually, privately contracted crews extinguished the fires, at a total cost of US $1.5 billion
the fires had burned for months, causing widespread pollution
HOW MUCH OIL IS REMAINING YOU MAY ASK!?!?
During the 1970's, people said oil would run out in 2000.
Now, people are saying that oil would run out within 30-50 years.
Almost 70% of all oil comes from the middle east
The US consumes about 25% of the world's oil resources yet they're only 300 million out of 6 billion people
About 85% of the world's energy comes from fossil fuel
Alternative fuels
Hydrogen cellsThermal polymerization of materials to be made into oil
bio diesel cold fusion
solar energy Wind
Hydro-Electric Nuclear power
None of the previous alternative sources of energy are no where near as effectiveOr useful as fossil fuels.
CHECK IT OUT!
The technical definition of fossil fuels is "incompletely oxidized and decayed animal and vegetable materials,
specifically coal, peat, lignite, petroleum and natural gas".
;-)
Whenever oil is recovered from the ocean floor, other chemicals and toxic substances come up too -- things like mercury, lead and arsenic that are often released back into the ocean.
1969, the blowout of an offshore drilling platform in Santa Barbara, CA, causing 200,000 gallons of crude oil to spread over 800 square miles of ocean and shore.
Pollution from oil drilling has been shown to cause life-threatening diseases such as cancer and it can also destroy the traditional homelands of indigenous societies
Roads, airports, housing complexes, pipelines, mines and other structures must be built when drilling for oil. These structures can disturb animal habitats and migration routes.
OMG!!! OMG!!!
WOOOWWWWWW!!!!
WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN THE EARTH RUNS DRY?!
I DON’T KNOW!?
Green house gasses will lower.
Economic depression.
If there is oil found, prices will sky rocket.
Transportation departments will be desperate for new sources of energy
Other sources will be generated for energy to heat And accommodate other needs.
WE GOTTA FIND ANOTHER WAY TO POWER OUR TRACTORS
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says there are about 70 per day. Typically, these are small and do no serious harm. But big spills do occur sometimes, and the damage to ecosystems can be very great
Did you Know?
Newer drilling and oil handling technologies reduce chances of oil spills Oil spills can be cleaned up Sunlight and bacteria degrade oil into less-harmful compounds
Fumes are irritating to eyes, nose, mouth and lungs If burned, contributes CO2 to global warming and to sulphur- and nitrogen-based gases that cause acid rain Mechanical effects
clumps settle out on ocean flood, covering up habitat collapses air space in fur and feathers
