Green Transportation ARL pool vehicles are monitored after every two years by an outside agency. Following parame-ters are tested to confirm vehicle condition & need for maintenance as per PEQS require-ments: ● Smoke● Carbon monoxide● NoiseThe vehicular emission report shows a detailed analysis of the required parameters and also gives recommendation for further maintenance of the vehicle. In 2019, a total of 55 vehicles have been monitored for vehicular emission. Spill Management & ControlSpill management procedures are available and in case of any oil spillage, proper control meas-ures are taken. However, during the year 2019, no significant oil spillage was reported inside the refinery except few minor spills. In case of any oil spillage during transportation of crude and other petroleum products, biore-mediation of oil spillage is done on site. During 2019, no oil spillage during transportation activ-ity was reported. Penalty on Non-ComplianceTo ensure 100% compliance of PEQS is a corpo-rate target. As a result of ARL efforts for the environmental preservation and stringent voluntary commitments, we are not aware of any cases in the year under review in which ARL has been accused of not having acted essential-ly in compliance with applicable laws, regula-tions and voluntary codes of practice in connec-tion with nature and environmental protection. As such, ARL did not have to pay any fines or non-monetary penalties for non-compliance with environmental laws and regulations in 2019.Environmental Grievances Mechanism In case of any environmental complaint from stakeholders, ARL has an environmental griev-ances mechanism in place where complaints regarding negative environmental impacts of operations can be filed. The Environment section inside the refinery and administration section outside the refinery deals with such complaints and necessary actions are taken as

per requirement. Rather than that complaints can also be filed through HSEQ Management system. Environmental impact of Product & Services ARL has an internal procedure to forbid and/to ensure suitable environmental management of hazardous substances, raising awareness about their impacts among the staff and service providers.Material Safety data sheets and labeling instructions convey safety information about the chemical products used and their dangers. Some of the initiatives taken by ARL in this regard are as follow: ● ARL took an initiative to purchase Non-Asbes-tos material instead of Asbestos sheets in March 2014.● There is no use of the ozone-depleting substance at ARL. Purchase of all equipment using ozone-depleting substancesis discontin-ued since September 3, 2004, as a matter of policy.

National Cleaner Production Centre FoundationNational Cleaner Production Center (NCPC) aims to introduce and promote Cleaner Production (CP) techniques and processes for Pollution Prevention at source along with integrated waste management. It was established by United Nations Industrial Development Organi-zation (UNIDO) in 1999 with collaboration of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), EPA’s, Ministry of Climate Change (MOCC) and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources (MNPR). We hold Member-ship of Global Network for Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production RECPnet (UNEP & UNIDO). We have University partners like Fatima Jinnah Women University, University of Engi-neering and Technology, Lahore College for Women University, Government College Univer-sity, Bahauddin Zakariya University, National University of Sciences and Technology, Quaid-i-Azam University, Abbottabad University of Science and Technology and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences who support our activities and share their knowl-edge. NCPC has achieved following important milestones during its journey.

• Member of Global Network for Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production RECPnet (UNEP) • Energy Services Company (ESCO) Certification by ENERCON (NECCA)• Environment Consulting Company by Pakistan Ministry of Environment• Hazardous Waste Incinerators Certified from Punjab EPA • Venue for Trainings, Conferences, Seminars and Workshops• Biodiversity Park• Solar Energy Development Facility• Biogas Plants• Honey Bee Farming Facility• Organic Vegetable Farming Facility and Plant Nurseries

NCPC has carried out a large number of activi-ties in collaboration with ARL for community development in different sectors of society. The details and glimpses of these are as follows:● Green WallGreen Wall Campaign was a fruitful struggle put into action by the organization in 2019. Under this campaign, team and volunteers distributed free of cost plants among families or visitors.● Tree Plantation ProgramMore than 8,000 trees were planted during spring and monsoon season with the involve-ment of different organizations, community, schools and universities.● Model Projects NCPC has catered the problems of waste man-agement, drinking water facility and safety issues of different schools, colleges and universi-ties. Awareness sessions and different competi-tions, plantation activities were also carried out. Seven Model Schools & four colleges were declared as model schools and colleges.Chak No: 137/10.R and Chak No. 136/10.R were declared as Model Villages regarding plantation. Neem Valley had been established in sixteen villages.

Krishna Mandar was established as Model Mandar regarding waste management, clean water, health and safety and environmental awareness

Christ Church, Living Church and UP Church were declared as Model Churches regarding waste management, clean water and energy conservation. OGDCL Dakhni field and POL Balkassar field were being established as Model fields with respect to Environment Protection.

Students and other citizens of different universi-ties, schools, Welfare Bureaus, Cooperative Societies Clinics/Hospitals, Mosques, Madrasas, Orphanages, Special Education Institutes and Parks were literate about Waste Management through proper waste segregation by donating color coded segregated waste bins.

Electric water coolers and water filters were distributed to local Schools, Madrassa, Mosques, Churches, Mandirs, Orphanages, Special Education Institutes and Welfare Bureaus to improve their water and sanitation conditions.

First Aid Boxes and Fire Extinguishers were distributed to Schools, Universities, Special Children Institutes, Clinics, Mosques, Churches, Madrassas, Girls Guide, Orphanages and Mandir to literate them about health and safety issues.● National Environment MelaTo celebrate environment and its beauty, the organization organized its 7th National Environ-ment Mela on April 13, 2019 at Ayub National Park, Rawalpindi in collaboration with Army Heritage Foundation (AHF) and in partnership with Pak EPA. This event had a theme of “Your Planet Needs You - Unite to Combat Climate Change” for the noble cause of environmental awareness. Universities from different cities of Pakistan participated with full zeal. A large

number of students from colleges and schools of Rawalpindi district participated with their message of protection of environment via theirmodels and posters. Organizations and indus-tries from public and private sector were the part of event. Special children, transgender, Hindu, Sikh and Christian community enthusias-tically participated in the event.● Meena BazarA stall was displayed in Meena Bazaar organized by ARL on March 16, 2019. The stall gained attention due to its unique display. Free of cost plants, cloth bags and kitchen gardening seeds were also distributed among visitors. Solar cooked food was also presented to guests and visitors People took part in games arranged at stall.● NCPC Funded Pilot ProjectsNCPC has successfully completed its two phases by funding the projects to universities from all over Pakistan for community development. The third phase is continuing and projects have been awarded to seven institutes
