Dear oikos friendsMy year at oikos is nearly over and looking back I am very happy to see so many things have happened There were amazing projects on the local international and academic level as well as in our alumni relations We have also grown in the number of chapters to now 35 in 20 countriesIt was wonderful working for oikos and I would like to thank everyone for making this such a special time I would also like to take this chance to introduce the new oikos International President Harriet Jackson and wish her all the best for the coming year

oikos Conference in St Gallen

The 22nd oikos Conference is dedicated to business model innovation for a sustainable future ndash with a special focus on both corporate intrapreneurship and social entrepreneurship For the conference we will bring together innovatively thinking students and practitioners as well as academics from diverse backgrounds to collectively discuss and design such models in a professional though casual mutual learning environment

World Ozone Day Event at oikos Ahmedabad

The chapter celebrated the day with a film screening on the impact of climate change on glaciers in Ladakh followed by an open discussion of how to make the CEPT campus more sustainable

oikos Monrovia Microfinance Project

A panel discussion on the impact of microfinance on sustainable development poverty reduction and economic growth was held at the University of Liberia

Fair Trade Coffee Break at oikos Prague It was organized in cooperation with the non-profit Association for Fair Trade and popular coffeehouse companies Starbucks and MamaCoffee As tasting was part of the event different types of Fair Trade coffees were prepared and served by specialists from the coffee chains

Alumni Month

The past few weeks alumni and Local Chapters have organized activities to gather people knowledge and ideas For example in Dhaka the alumni dinner brought forth plans for cooperation with Indian chapters and a big regional meeting in Asia Stay tuned for follow-ups on these plans

Meet alumnus - Stephan SchallerMy name is Stephan Schaller and I am a sustainability consultant and researcher at triple innova in Wuppertal Germany We believe that scientific work and consulting go together well when coping with complex sustainability challenges We often work with partners including the CSCP the Wuppertal Institute and a number of universities and other consultants I am also the father of two very active boys and they constantly remind me of future generationsrsquo equity and make me test a number of part-time working models I was never a formal oikos member but instantly became the first alumnus of the Witten-Herdecke chapter when I graduated from university in 2004 oikos engagement has been an important driver and qualification for my current work Mainstream curricula are still not prepared to respond to the interdisciplinary challenges of sustainability so oikos needs you and you need oikos to put the ldquoimportant questionsrdquo on the agenda I am grateful to see our network growing ndash also in terms of alumni activities This makes it even more attractive and supportive for committed change makers to join In the next few months we will make a leap forward in bringing both alumni and active members closer together Chapters will have a growing pool of skilled alumni to draw from Use it

This year we received a record number of submissions for the oikos Case Writing Competition 2011 28 cases for the corporate sustainability track and 19 cases for the social entrepreneurship track We received submissions from scholars based in 14 countries Results of the oikos Case Writing Competition 2011 will be published on our website by May 2011 In the meantime make sure to download the winning cases
