We get to celebrate a lot of firsts with our baby girl but it’s difficult as extended family and friends are still kept at distance and not able to meet her yet. We look to the new year hopeful but cautious as we aren’t sure what will happen and when. What I do know is we will march on. Steers still need tagged for the 2021 County Fair, 4-H Enrollment still continues, and we are still constantly trying to find the best ways to offer 4-H to our clientele and move Logan County 4-H forward through this craziness. Sincerely, Justin Ohio 4-H Achievement Awards Each year Ohio 4-H selects 27 award recipients across Ohio for achievement in a specific area. Areas include: Beef, CARTEENS, Citizenship & Community Service, Clothing & Textiles, Communications, Companion Animals, Creavive Arts, Dairy, Environmental Sciences, Family Life & Child Development, Foods & Nutrition, Gardening & Horticulture, Goat, Health & Safety, Horse, Leadership, Llamas, Mechanical & Engineering Sciences, Personal Development, Photography, Poultry, Rabbits, Sheep, Shooting Sports, Swine, Woodworking and Veterinary Science. Each achievement award winner will receive an expense paid trip to National 4-H Congress that is held in Atlanta, Georgia. Applicants must be 14, as of January 1 st and currently enrolled in the project area they are applying for. You can find the application and information on the state 4-H website at https://ohio4h.org/awardsandscholarships. It is due to Justin for review and approval by December 16 th , 2020. Please contact Justin if you have any questions. In-Person 4-H Club Meetings 4-H Club meetings are allowed to be in-person currently while meeting all the safety procedures that are outlined in the “Ohio 4-H Planning Guide for In-Person Meetings & Events” at https://ohio4h.org/families/stay-connected. The only reasons currently we may not meet in-person is if our county is purple on the Ohio Public Health Advisory System (Logan County is currently red) OR there are additional state or county level policies/guidance that change. Key reminders about meeting in-person: Hosting virtual meetings and events is preferred If activities are critical/essential and are in-person, they must be education-focused Group cannot be larger than 50 people, including adults, youth, presenters, etc. Face masks are required inside and outside at all times Potlucks and buffets are not permitted OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION

    Junior Fair Updates 2021 Logan County Fair

    The 2021 Logan County Fair is scheduled for July 11th – 17th, 2021. The 2021 Junior Fair theme is “Logan County Junior Fair is Out of this World”.

    December Steer Tagging There will be no in-person tagging for 2020. This year please do the following in order to enter your Junior Fair Market

    Steers, Market Heifers, and Dairy Steers. 1. Make sure your steers have proper ID in their ears. EID tags are preferred. If you do not have an EID tag please pick

    up tags at the office. 2. Fill out the Junior Fair Entry “Paper Form” at https://go.osu.edu/LoCoFairEntries and turn it in by Monday, December

    14th, 2020. 3. Send pictures of the following: 1) the front of the ID, 2) the back of the ID, 3) the ID connected in the ear, 4) a side

    profile of each animal to D.Rae at 937-539-2677 OR [email protected].

    Reminders: • Fill out one form per exhibitor. Youth may exchange animals within their family only and declare that at weigh-

    in/check-in of the fair. • All steers/heifers entered in the Logan County Born & Raised Show must come from a producer who is a member of

    the Logan County Cattle Association. Junior Fair Coordinator Position Open The Logan County Agricultural Society is looking to hire a Junior Fair Coordinator for the Logan County Junior Fair. Position Title: Logan County Junior Fair Coordinator Time Required: Approx. 10 hours per week from January to July; full-time team commitment during fair. Payment: This position is granted an annual stipend of $1,800. General Purpose:

    • Serve as the main coordinator of the Junior Fair Departments and work with the county OSU Extension office/ Sr. & Jr. Fairboards/ Fair office/ Livestock Committees and FFA professionals to coordinate the Junior Fair.

    • Assist in coordinating with the Logan County Junior Fair Board. • Communicate with 4-H & FFA members, their parents, and other volunteers regarding the Logan County Junior Fair

    Program. • Assist with conducting Junior Fair Livestock activities during the Logan County Fair, Quality Assurance, Clinics,

    Tagging, and other opportunities. • Provide adult leadership and support 4-H & FFA professionals, Sr. Fair Board and Volunteers in conducting

    Enrollment for 2021 4-H Year is OPEN Enrollment for the 2021 4-H year is live and open. 4-H Enrollment lasts until April 1st. Enrolling into 4-H for new or returning members is easy. We use 4-H Online (https://oh.4honline.com) to enroll into Logan County 4-H. For help enrolling for NEW 4-H MEMBERS visit: https://go.osu.edu/JoinLoCo4H For help re-enrolling for RETURNING 4-H MEMBERS/VOLUNTEERS visit: https://go.osu.edu/LoCoReEnroll Learning with Logan County 4-H With the continuation of the global pandemic, Logan County 4-H will be offering an optional countywide virtual club meeting monthly from December 2020 till June 2021. These meetings are open to any Logan County 4-H’er, volunteer, or parent. For these meetings to count as an official business meeting for your 4-H Club, Advisors must register ahead of time that they plan to attend the meeting as a 4-H Club. If a 4-H’ers Club Advisor does not register ahead of time for their club to attend the 4-H’er may attend but it will not count as one of their official business meetings for the year. Layout of Learning with Logan County 4-H meetings Meetings will start at 2:00pm the third Sunday of the month on ZOOM. Welcome/Announcements – Justin Bower, Logan County 4-H Educator – 5-10mins Education Topic – Featured Speaker – 30-45mins 4-H Club Business Meetings – 4-H Club Advisors – 30-45mins

    • 4-H Clubs will be put into separate breakout rooms on ZOOM so each club is only having their business meeting with their 4-H members. This is where attendance for club meetings will be taken.

You may register for all meetings at once or on a month by month basis. Registration is live. New 4-H Volunteer Applications Logan County 4-H is always looking for more adult volunteers. Volunteers can have different roles with the 4-H Program and have very different time commitments, responsibilities, and focuses. Here are some volunteer roles that Logan County 4-H is looking for:

    • Club Advisors – some of our current clubs could use more volunteer assistance and Justin is always wanting to talk to someone interested in starting a new 4-H Club.

    • Project Volunteers – volunteers who are not necessarily tied to a 4-H Club but throughout the year teach and work with youth on specific project areas in things such as clinics, workshops, and visiting 4-H Clubs to assist.

    • In-school/ After-school Volunteers – volunteers willing to assist Justin in creating, implementing, and evaluating in school programs and after school programs. Just volunteer during the school year. May help with afterschool clubs, or in-school programs such as Real Money Real World, Breads of Harvest, STEM challenges, and more.

    • Cloverbud Advisors – tied to a club or willing to start a county-wide Cloverbud Club and puts on activities and learning experiences for 5 to 8 year olds
