Bryan Anthony isn’t worried about musical labels. Whether you call him a jazz singer with pop sensibilities or a pop vocalist steeped in jazz, he’s staked his artistic identity in the vast and beloved collection of

songs that emanated from Broadway, Hollywood and Tin Pan Alley in the rst half of the 20th century. Much like Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett, popular artists who were inextricably linked to jazz while not belonging wholly to the scene, Anthony has honed an approach based upon jazz’s rhythmic £uidity but that doesn’t depart from the essential melodies.

“A tall, likeable guy with a huge satiny voice, he often attained a sexy, brash condence and a plush romanticism that gave a hint of Ol’ Blue Eyes.”

—Daniel Gewertz, Boston Herald

Take a blustery brass lineup, layer it over a rhythm section led by a stride-piano virtuoso in the Fats Waller vein, and tie the whole thing together with a one-of-the-boys frontwoman with a voice from another era, and you have the Hot Sardines. (We haven’t even told you about the tap dancer yet.)

The Sardine sound — wartime Paris via New Orleans, or the other way around — is steeped in hot jazz, salty stride piano, and the kind of music Louis Armstrong, Django Reinhardt and Waller used to make: Straight-

up, foot-stomping jazz. (Literally — the band includes a tap dancer whose feet count as two members of the rhythm section). They manage to invoke the sounds of a near-century ago and stay resolutely in step with the current age. And while their roots run deep into jazz, that most American of genres, they’re intertwined with French in£uences via their frontwoman, who was born and raised in Paris (and writes songs in both languages).

The band was born when said Parisian (“Miz Elizabeth” Bougerol) met a stride piano player (bandleader Evan “Bibs” Palazzo) at a jam session they found on Craigslist. Above a noodle shop on Manhattan’s 49th Street, they discovered a mutual love for songs from the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s that no-one really plays anymore. Or if they play them, “they handle them with kid gloves, like pieces in a museum,” says Evan, underscoring a point the pair can’t stress enough: “This music isn’t historical artifact. It’s a living, breathing, always-evolving thing.”

The Van-Dells are “The Nation’s #1 Rock & Roll Review.” They have been entertaining audiences of all ages with their unique blend of comedy, costume changes, choreography and tight harmonies for close to 4 decades. The Van-Dells have been called “The Three Stooges set to music.”

There are three main characters, each bringing their own special dimension to the show. Stacy P. Todd, better known as Duke, Mark Barnett and Glenn Bowles. This fun, fast paced show begins in the 50’s and runs through the 60’s. Backed-up by a ve piece band, the shows are broken into segments like a two act play. The Van-Dells begin their show representing the last graduating class of Van-Dell High School, which closed down in 1958. Dressed in letter sweaters, The Van-Dells combine comedy with songs from the Rock and Roll era of the 50’s. In the second show they take the audience on a nostalgic trip through the “Glitter and Gold” period that made the 60’s famous.

When The Van-Dells hit the stage, it is nonstop action from start to nish!

Dailey & Vincent is one of the top Bluegrass bands in America. From the very beginning of their partnership in late 2007, Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent quickly established themselves as fresh voices in their genre. The concoction of their fantastically powerful vocal blends, 4 award-winning studio albums, and heavy touring schedules has gained them well-deserved attention from bluegrass, country, and gospel critics and fans alike.

Dailey & Vincent has been recognized as 3-time IBMA Entertainer of The Year, 3-time IBMA Vocal Group of the Year, 2-time Grammy nominee, and Dove Award winners. Equally at home with material from any of the aforementioned genres, Jamie and Darrin continue to expand on the possibilities of what kinds of music can become “Dailey & Vincent” music.

The duo’s two most recent albums, Dailey & Vincent Sing the Statler Brothersand The Gospel Side of Dailey and Vincent, both garnered Grammy nominations, but each had a very specic focus. With Brothers Of The Highway, Dailey & Vincent made a conscious attempt to take stock of their careers so far, a sort of look “Back To The Future,” heeding the admonition of their friend and mentor Ricky Skaggs, who advised them “you can’t know where you’re going unless you know where you’ve been.”

Although Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent aren’t related by blood, the instinctive vocal blend they have achieved rivals that of any singing siblings: it’s no accident that they titled an earlier album Brothers From Dierent Mothers, and with Brothers Of The Highway, the ties they’ve forged grow ever stronger.

From deep in the Appalachians where the Great Smoky Mountains meet the Blue Ridge comes the Balsam Range band, creatively blending Bluegrass, Folk, Gospel and Jazz into a new American acoustic music experience.

It has been said that the loudest word in the world is your name, because it is who you are. A lot of people who live in western North Carolina claim the antiquated names of the peaks and valleys and the lakes and rivers of this beautiful part of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Such is the name Balsam Range to a group of ve outstanding acoustic musicians and singers from Haywood County, North Carolina. For their band name, they thoughtfully and respectfully adopted the name of a majestic range of mountains that surround part of their home county, where the Smokies meet the Blue Ridge.

Now meet the band, Balsam Range. Tim Surrett delivers lead and harmony singing, plays bass most of the time, and will occasionally move his talents to the resonator guitar. Buddy Melton is one of the most gifted tenor voices in bluegrass and Americana today, and his stellar ddle playing supports the band’s programs equally. Caleb

Smith’s unique guitar style pairs perfectly with his energetic power singing. Darren Nicholson is one of the most gifted mandolin players and harmony singers ever to come from the Southern Mountains. Marc Pruett plays traditional three nger banjo in intuitive and powerful ways that blend and compliment the in£uences in the band of jazz and bluegrass, country and gospel, and swing and old-time, adding a credible entertainment experience of over 40 years to this fresh, unique Southern band…Balsam Range.

Back by popular demand! It’s dicult to name a band that is more all-around talented than The Boxcars. Band members have numerous IBMA and Grammy Awards and have shared the stage with most of the top names in bluegrass. Their rst two releases as a group helped earn them two consecutive IBMA Instrumental Group of the Year awards. Their latest album, It’s Just a Road, is sure to attract the same level of attention, if not more.

Without a list or a plan, Adam Steey, Ron Stewart, John Bowman, Keith Garrett and Harold Nixon met in the studio and created the new album in less than four days. The Boxcars walked out of that studio with twelve dynamic tracks executed with the characteristic emotion, precision, and cleverness that fans have come to expect from The Boxcars.

The reigning IBMA Instrumental Group of the Year displays their versatility with a variety of elements that include Swing, Old Time, Gospel and quite possibly the nest Bluegrass heard anywhere.

STRAVINSKY'S THE FIREBIRDFriday, October 24, 2014 7:30 p.m.Teddy Abrams, conductor

Igor Stravinsky’s ballet, The Firebird is adapted from a Russian fairy tale in which a handsome prince is drawn into an enchanted garden and palace by the exotic bird of the title, who is a sort of good fairy. The prince falls in love with a beautiful captive princess, but must break the spell of the evil ogre Kashchei — who presides over the palace — before he may claim his bride.

SCHUBERT & MENDELSSOHNSaturday, November 22, 2014 7:30 p.m.Teddy Abrams, conductor

Franz Schubert started writing his Symphony No. 8 in B minor, commonly known as the “Unnished Symphony,” in 1822 but completed only two movements, even though he would live for another six years.

Felix Mendelssohn’s Overture to A Midsummer Night’s Dream is

a startling work, and not only because he was only 17 when he wrote it but also because he created a musical genre unlike any that had come before.

“AMADEUS”Saturday, January 10, 2015 7:30 p.m.Bob Bernhardt, conductor

The quintessential “wunderkind,” Mozart began composition around the age of 5 and went on to compose over 600 works, many acknowledged as pinnacles of symphonic, concertante, chamber, operatic, and choral music. He is among the most enduringly popular of classical composers, and his inuence on subsequent music is profound; Beethoven composed his own early works in

the shadow of Mozart, and Joseph Haydn wrote that “posterity will not see such a talent again in 100 years.”

If you thought you knew the story of ‘The Princess and The Pea,’ you may be in for a walloping surprise! Did you know, for instance, that Princess Winnifred actually swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the Drab? Or that, in fact, it wasn't the pea at all that caused the princess a sleepless night? Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance provides for some side-splitting shenanigans. This family-friendly show will be made all the more enchanting by our special guest star, Lee Meriwether. Known, among other things, as Miss America 1955, or Catwoman in Batman: The Movie (1966), or as Betty Jones in the long-running television series, Barnaby Jones, Ms. Meriwether will perform the role of Queen Aggravain.

The year is 1985: Ronald Reagan has just been reelected to a second term, and the deadly AIDS epidemic is at its height in New York City. Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award®-winning epic historical drama captures the lives of the HIV-positive Prior; Louis, his lover; Joe, a closeted, gay Mormon; his Valium-addicted wife Harper; Roy Cohn, a notorious lawyer from the McCarthy

hearings who is dying of AIDS; Belize, his African American nurse; Hannah, Joe’s mother from Utah; and the Angel, a terrifyingly beautiful herald of the apocalypse. As these characters discover, confront, and seduce each other during a time of death, hypocrisy, and tumultuous change, Kushner summons a restless pastiche of the historical and the supernatural, the theological and the political.
