IT ALL BEGAN WITH A CONCEPT, A PENCIL AND PAPER

HISTORYFrom small beginnings in

1997 to today’s globally

recognized brand, Ogi

Eyewear has experienced

rapid growth and has refined

its vision, while remaining

true to its original philosophy.

Innovation, originality, quality

and value are the pillars that

make up the foundation

of Ogi Eyewear and are

embodied into each frame

and every collection. Creating

durable handcrafted frames

with original, sexy and

sophisticated style is what

sets Ogi Eyewear apart.

The story of Ogi Eyewear

started with a hole in the

market and a desire to fill it.

While running a Minneapolis

retail optical store, founder

and designer, David Spencer

felt a growing demand for

small frames both finely

crafted and affordable.

Unable to find what he was

looking for, he decided

to design it himself. With

nothing more than a concept,

a pencil and a pad of paper,

Spencer began sketching

out frame designs, eventually

creating the company called

Ogi Eyewear.

Ogi Eyewear delivers style

and substance through the

use of premium materials

and diligently placed details,

resulting in eyewear that is

unrivaled for its design and

value. Ogi Eyewear blends

sexiness with sophistication

at unparalleled affordability.

By emphasizing innovation,

originality, quality and value,

the company has been able

to expand its demographic

around the globe and gain

worldwide recognition.

LONGARONE, Italy—Marcolin Group has intro-

duced the Ermenegildo Zegna eyewear collection

and the Ermenegildo Zegna Couture collection.

The Zegna eyewear collection includes two sun-

glass models and one optical frame, all with Zeiss

lenses. The EZ0005 sunglass frame is rounded and

offset by transparent, colored temples with a chev-

ron metal core bearing the brand’s logo. The

EZ0009 sunglass features options like clear black or

blue with temples that have leather inserts, or a

Havana option, which has wood detailing with ace-

tate temple tips. The EZ5005 optical frame has a

rectangular acetate front joined to the temples with

a metal logo plaque.

The Zegna Couture collection includes three sun-

glass models and two optical frames, all marked with

the iconic, handmade “XXX” logo made with vicuna

cotton thread inside the tips and temple ends of each

frame. The rounded ZC0004 and thicker ZC0005

sunglasses both marry natural, wood materials with

biocompatible water buffalo horn and a metal bridge.

The rounded ZC0008 sunglasses have an acetate

front, with metal detailing, and wood and horn inserts

at the temples. The squared ZC5001 optical frames

combine acetate fronts with natural horn and wood

temples; while the rounded ZC5005 optical frames

are vintage-inspired, with metal along the acetate

front, and wood and horn in the temples.

sophisticated style details are the aesthetic hallmarks of

the Red Rose collection. Laser-cut shapes crafted of sleek titanium range from highly

modern modified rectangles and ultra-thin geometrics

to stunning, futuristic cat eyes and wearable updated

head-turning hues including cobalt blue, rich red, and charcoal mixed with gold.

Ogi Eyewear is extremely excited to relaunch the Red Rose brand with its rich heritage and specialty metals. We believe that the technological

advancements in titanium and the exquisite design is going to make this collection a huge success. — Joseph Tallier, Ogi Eyewear CEO

I C O N I C A P P E A LOgi Eyewear is res-urrecting a highly innovative eyewear collection that has a history and legacy in the optical market. Originally launched as a primarily metal collection, the stand-out Red Rose eyewear line is once again

being debuted—but in a whole new way.

With a distinct focus on a modern design that honors the most cherished aspects of the original brand, Red Rose eyewear also embodies heritage with its passion for craftsmanship. Each frame finds its origins in a hand-drawn design that is digitally

mastered and then handcrafted—and cut with high-precision lasers—in the finest Japanese factories.

Inspired by minimalism, this collection embraces the exquisite prop-erties of 100% pure titanium, a high-tech material that lends a sleek and light-weight design. Red Rose eyewear also

employs an inven-tive screwless hinge design that doubles as an eye-catching aesthetic feature.

While Red Rose features several sophisticated men's and women’s styles, the key target customer is men aged 30 to 55 who seek a high level of crafts-manship and clean, handmade designs.

eyewear company worldwide. Our corporate headquarters is in Minneapolis, MN, where the state motto is L’Etoile du Nord, which translates to “the star of the north”. This north-ern climate fosters creativity and efficiency, which produces results that are uncommon in the optical industry. For instance, our company has, for the last 285 consecutive days as of today, successfully shipped every single order received before 4 p.m. out the same day. We have an extensive product portfolio, yet are able to maintain less than 1% backorders. At Ogi we believe our suc-cess is a team effort and that all the working parts complement one another. We take pride in offering the best style, quality and value in the industry.

eb: What are some upcoming opportunities for ECPs?

jt: We find that our ECPs are adapting to the new market finding ways to

make managed care work for them. They are adapting to the paradigm shift of migration to boutique companies and away from the sea of licensed brands. We look at what they are doing rather than what they are not doing because as a whole, the eyecare professionals are truly driving the market.

eb: How can frame companies and ECPs work together?

jt: We find that our eyecare profes-sionals are getting more and more

sophisticated in their approach toward purchasing decisions. Ogi has one of the best sales forces in the industry with a real profes-sional pedigree, which makes it easy for us to share our analytics with ECPs. Most of our cus-tomer base is eager to see our best-sellers list on a regular basis along with product training manuals. The real future in distribution is shar-ing information, and that is something we are very dialed into at Ogi.

gi Eyewear has appointed Joseph Tallier chief execu-tive officer. Part of the Ogi Eyewear team for six years, Tallier started his career there

as vice president of global sales and became an equity partner in 2012 prior to being promoted to CEO. He has 28 years of demonstrated success in the wholesale optical industry, starting as a sales representative and progressively being promoted to leadership positions in several wholesale optical companies in the United States. Here he speaks with Eyecare Business about his plans and hopes for the future of Ogi and optical.

eb: How does Ogi plan to move forward in 2015 and beyond in terms of dif-

ferentiating yourselves in the market?

jt: Ogi Eyewear as a company has continu-ously made improvements to its strategy.

Our mantra is to consistently redesign, redirect, and improve quality with every new release. Our core mission is continuously improving to add value to our clients and with this strategy we will stay relevant in the future.

eb: What do you see as the biggest challenge facing Ogi and the frame

manufacturing universe?

jt: Manufacturing is the biggest challenge for all wholesale companies. We see this as an

opportunity. We have been ahead of the curve by buying and stocking all of our own raw materials, so we control our destiny. With owning our own raw materials, including hinges and screws, we are able to cut down our lead time by not having to wait for suppliers to order these materials for us. We have also created more strategic alliances with our factories to ensure that we are a priority.

eb: What are your goals as CEO; where do you see Ogi heading?

jt: First and foremost is that Ogi becomes the number-one American boutique wholesale

SUN TECHNOLOGYOGI EYEWEAR RELEASES NEW INNOTEC

SUN COLLECTION

Innotec, an Ogi Eyewear brand, debuts its new

collection of sunglasses. Applying Innotec’s propri-

etary fusion of materials and technology creates a

sun collection featuring three new styles: Denton,

a contrasting-colored square shape; Fenwick, a

rectangle with strong brow styling; and Willow,

a universally pleasing style with mirrored lenses.

The styles are generally masculine, but have some

crossover appeal.

The eyewear pairs hand-painted TR-90 with

German Wagner stainless steel for bold shapes that

showcase cutting-edge materials and design. The

bold, colorful styles ofer lightweight durability and

ftting features such as adjustable temple tips and

adjustable built-up nose pads or universal-ft adjust-

able nose pads. The sunglass styles’ lenses provide

a splash of cool with 100% UV protection and mir-

rored lenses for the Willow sun model.

Innotec countercards, logo blocks, and large

window banners are available upon request.

WHO: The Spring 2015 runways of Hervé Léger, Tommy Hilfiger and

Dennis Basso; Kylie Jenner at the American Music Awards; Blake

Lively at Cannes, Italian grannies and other fans of the fortified wine

that is its namesake.

WHAT: Declared THE color of the year for 2015 by the Pantone Color

Institute, Marsala perfectly translates onto frame boards and eyewear

designers are embracing it. Appropriate for men or women, Marsala

makes sense for sun or ophthalmics, as well as metals or plastics.

MarsalaPANTONE®

WEAR: (Top to Bottom) Saturated and textured, the Ogi 4304 opti-

cal style highlights the dramatic, feminine side of the hottest color

of 2015. The Salvatore Ferragamo SF2666R from Marchon offers up

this red-brown color in a milky finish for those looking for a bit more

subtlety. The Marc by Marc Jacobs MMJ613 from Safilo couldn’t be

more on trend; a deep metal frame front with a perforated, woven

brow detail done in the “it” color of the season, immediately raises

the cool factor of anyone wearing it. Men can wear color too. The

Original Penguin The Collins sunglass from Kenmark proves it with

its sleek metal silhouette in a rich, shiny Marsala. The Swarovski

Eileen sun style from Marcolin, in a lush translucent version of the

sexy shade, ups the glam factor with crystal embellished endpieces.

WHY: “Marsala enriches our mind, body and soul, exuding confi-

dence and stability. Marsala is a subtly seductive shade, one that

draws us in to its embracing warmth,” said Leatrice Eiseman, execu-

tive director of the Pantone Color Institute. That’s a pretty compelling

reason, but Marsala also happens to be flattering against many skin

tones, equally suitable for men or women and attractive as either an

ophthalmic or sun style. So the question isn’t why would your pa-

tients wear Marsala? But why wouldn’t they?
