SUSTAINABLE RECYCLINGIN THE OFFSHORE SHIPPING INDUSTRY
Opportunities for shipowners in the circular economy
Unsustainable status quo
Oversupply offshore vessels more than 1500 AHTS/PSVs in lay up world wide
200 of these vessels (weight < 2500t LT) are cold stacked in Northern European waters
Annual cost for lay up and relocation to recycling facilities in for example India or Turkey > today’s residual value of the vessels

“Our past, our present, and whatever remains of
our future, absolutely dependson what we do now.”
SYLVIA EARLE, OCEANOGRAPHER
A percentage of the offshore fleet will need to be recycled in the next 18 months. This recycling is needed to (re)create a new balance in supply and demand.
Shipowners are no experts in green ship recycling and they don’t need to be.
Offshore Ship Recycling Rotterdam started in 2017 to become the one stop shop by combining the expertise and infrastructure of its owners and partners in Rotterdam.
This has resulted in the solution whereby shipowners sell their assets to Offshore Ship Recycling Rotterdam B.V.
We assume the responsibility over the recycling process to assure it is done sustainably, responsibly, safely and according to the current rules and regulations.

NEXT STEPS
How to move from here to a contract
Inventory Hazardous Material assessmentShipowners are asked to present the Inventory Hazardous Material (IHM). Based on this report the value of the vessel will be established. After which an inspection will follow.
PlanningBased on the agreed residual value a Bimco Recycle Contract will be signed between
owner and Offshore Ship Recycling Rotterdam. The final phase will consist of relocation of the vessel to the yard in Rotterdam. This can be done by the owner or by
Offshore Ship Recycling Rotterdam.
