Offshore cable installation is organized into 3 Sectors ◦ 1. Array: Interconnecting a grid of offshore wind turbines

via a subsea cable system 33KV with 66KV being developed

◦ 2. Export: Connecting an offshore windfarm to an onshore power grid via a subsea cable system HVAC or HVDC

◦ 3. Interconnect: Connecting 2 or more power grids

via a subsea cable system HVDC or HVAC

Export & Interconnect projects are similar, Different vessels, equipment and expertise is required for Array market

Export/Interconnect Cable (HVDC) ◦ Weight will be comparable to HVAC, but will consist of

two cables adding an additional wrinkle to cable handling.

Export/Interconnect Cable (HVAC) range ◦ Diameter: 200mm-225mm (appx 8”-9”) ◦ Weight in air: 80kg/m to 90kg/m. (176-200lbs/m.) ◦ Minimum Bend Radius: 3.3m

Array Cable range ◦ Diameter:100mm-150mm (appx 4”-5”) ◦ Weight in air: 21kg/m to 58kg/m. (46-127lbs/m.) ◦ Minimum Bend Radius: 2.2m

Note: As there is little/no marine cable manufacturing in North America - offshore cable comes from Europe or Asia – if

it is not transported on the installation vessel cost effective shipping, transfer and storage is required
