Investigating seabed risk begins with a desk study. This conforms with best practice and is the most cost effective means of identifying geohazards and defining geotechnical risk. Cathie Associates can get your project off to the best possible start, through the production of a bespoke, site specific geological and geotechnical desk study.

Through review of publically available data, in addition to our comprehensive in-house library and database, our desk studies enable:

•Feasibility stage identification of anthropogenic, geological and geotechnical hazards

•Formulation of a preliminary geological ground model•Consideration of environmental and archaeological impacts and early

definition of Rochdale Envelopes•Early development layout and optimisation of construction options•Appropriate scoping and specification of marine survey

Cathie Associates have many years of design experience at all development stages for offshore renewable energy projects, underpinned by an industry leading reputation in the mature offshore oil and gas sector.

At concept, FEED, detailed design and 3rd party review stages Cathie Associates produce CAPEX-conscious foundation designs that minimise environmental footprint and impact. We focus upon the appropriate application of industry recognised guidance, in-house equilibrium software and finite element analysis to generate constructible design solutions.

Cathie Associates’ design experience encompasses every commonly deployed foundation concept across the offshore renewables and oil and gas sectors as well as many novel concepts developed in-house and as a 3rd party technical reviewer. Our experience is geographically diverse across every major oil and gas and existing renewable energy development zone in the world including seismically active zones.

Commonly overlooked, subsea cabling is a critical single-point-failure aspect of offshore renewable energy infrastructure that should be considered throughout the development process. Cathie Associates have unrivalled experience in the provision of cable engineering services from preliminary routing and installation risk assessment through to detailed burial risk assessment and burial assessment. Our expertise in this sector has been gained through the provision of practicable and pragmatic technical support to major subsea installers.

Most major offshore developments are now moving towards GIS integration of all data as an effective means of managing data throughout the project lifecycle.

As a compliment to our technical deliverables and as a stand alone service, GIS represents an incredibly diverse and powerful engineering tool. From simple figure and drawing production to detailed geological and geotechnical modelling of projects many thousands of km2 in extent, GIS provides an intelligent means of interrogation, interpolation and visualisation of diverse spatial data sets. Cathie Associates can also provide external management and maintenance of GIS databases for offshore projects.

Cathie Associates enable the safe and environmentally responsible execution of survey by carefully scoping, specifying and managing geophysical and geotechnical campaigns. As a wholly independent and impartial consultancy with industry leading levels of experience, Cathie Associates are trusted by many blue chip developers and leading multinational EPC contractors to take care of their survey interests.

Successful implementation of marine survey depends upon a tailored and targeted survey scope combined with expert offshore client representation. Extensive experience in the detailed design of offshore infrastructure enables Cathie Associates to deliver fit-for-purpose and value engineered survey that will meet the requirements of the developer, designer, contractor and 3rd party verification body.

Geotechnical Engineering for Sub-sea Foundations

Whether you are raising capital against an established asset or seeking approval of a procured design, confidence in the selected assessor is key.

Cathie Associates offer technical due diligence and 3rd party review services to developers, insurers and financiers. Our in-house industry experts have the requisite knowledge and industry profiles to provide robust, objective and reliable support for all aspects of subsea foundations and cabling.

Technical Due Diligence, Review and Expert WitnessAn essential predecessor to any design phase,

data interpretation provides an opportunity to consolidate understanding and integrate data sets for use in engineering design.

Cathie Associates, as a function of our extensive design experience, have spent many years working with geophysical and geotechnical data sets to formulate geological and geotechnical models for projects. Appropriate selection of suitable

geotechnical design profiles is essential to facilitate efficient and cost-effective design. Cathie Associates facilitate this through an in-depth knowledge of geophysical and geotechnical data acquisition methods coupled with expert geological understanding and knowledge of industry design guidance. Indeed, at Cathie Associates we are commonly ahead of the curve in collaborating with regulatory authorities regarding future design guidance.

Geological and Geotechnical Interpretation

Managing installation risk at the engineering and design stages is the most cost effective way to mitigate against unexpected costs and setbacks during project construction and installation stages. However, at these stages, further steps can be taken to minimise and manage risk. Cathie Associates are able to provide installation support for offshore foundations, infield and export power cables and associated temporary works.

G-Octopus, one of the Cathie Associates Group of companies, provides offshore pile installation monitoring and supervision services. Our pile driving monitoring (PDM) equipment is operated in house with specially trained geotechnical engineers. This service is complementary to our foundation installation supervision and prevents the over-stressing and fatiguing of piles during installation. The gathered data can also be used to back-calculate pile capacity in the case of early refusal.

Cathie Associates have an industry leading reputation in the provision of technical services for subsea cable installation. Following on from our detailed design activities for subsea cables, Cathie Associates provide single-source cable installation engineering solutions to major power producers, multinational EPC contractors and cable installers.

Temporary works and jack up stability are important aspects of the construction process to consider and are commonly overlooked due to their temporary nature. Whether it’s a temporary beach head excavation for cable pull, stability and punch through risk assessment for 10,000Te jack up units or assessment of temporary anchoring capacity, Cathie Associates can provide rapid, bespoke and practical engineering support.
