BS 7121 Part 11: Offshore Cranes states that an operators competence should be re-assessed every 2 years and the Health and Safety Executive has acknowledged that practical simulation exercises play a part in complying with this standard. Participants Participants shall hold a current Stage 3 Certificate of Competency and be experienced in all facets of offshore crane operations. Course Pre-requisites The participant has been previously assessed in the workplace and holds a Stage 3 Offshore Crane Operator certificate of competency. The participant is able to produce an up to date and current log book that has the records of all supply vessel cargo operations performed in the period since last assessment. The participant is able to supply to the assessor a detailed CV (resume) and contactable references to verify experience. Describe and function all limits associated with the crane. Ability to competently read a variety of load charts. Understanding of load indicator functions. This is to include both static and dynamic modes. Crane controls. Maintenance requirements for offshore cranes and wire ropes. Language, Literacy and Numeracy Requirements This assessment requires the ability to read and interpret typical product specifications, job sheets, procedures, material labels and safety information as provided to operators. Writing is required to the level of completing workplace forms. Numeracy is required to calculate loads and estimate balance points for slinging. All assessment activities will be conducted in English. Offshore Crane and Lifting Operations Courses OFFSHORE CRANE OPERATOR – STAGE 3 RE-ASSESSMENT
