LUMINATOR LED – THE NEW HEROES ARE HERE

Luminator Compact LED (Ø 17 cm) and Luminator X LED (Ø 12.7 cm) are new additions to the Luminator family from 2014. Fans of the Profi series can therefore now also enjoy the superb HELLA LED technology which features in each Luminator model! The new Luminator Compact LED is a special highlight. It is also suitable for extreme operating conditions and is fordable up to water depths of 0.5 m (up to 5 minutes in clear water).

The heavy-duty version of the Luminator Compact LED can also confidently handle muddy water passages with no reduction in power thanks to the ventilation hose provided.Superb illumination, outstanding stability and robustness are the quality criteria of the popular Luminator series. The name has long since become a yardstick for what is feasible. You can see our quality attributes for yourself by referring to page 4 and 5.

Where others save (-), HELLA invests (+) in top-notch quality.You should bear this in mind to avoid seemingly affordable products from low-cost suppliers costing you dearly.

Quality of the LEDs

Only LEDs that have been rigorously tested are used in HELLA auxiliary headlamps. This selection process ensures the extremely long design life of the LEDs compared to halogen bulbs.

When resorting to untested low-cost LEDs, always bear in mind that this brings with it the risk of a reduced design life, malfunctions and prohibited light colors. Then LED technology cannot be used to its full advantage.

Leak tightness

Gluing robots at HELLA place precisely fitting bonding seams to guarantee lasting tightness.

Inferior headlamps are often glued manually. If the glue is non uniformly applied, the resulting bonding seam may be less than ideal which reduces luminous efficiency. If the headlamp is not tight, water can enter and make the headlamp unusable.

Stability

The construction and materials of the HELLA auxiliary spotlights offer a high degree of stability and robustness. We systematically check using mechanical tests (e.g. resistance to vibration and impacts) whether the high quality standards are being met.

Material components that are not fully compatible and undersized components (e.g. fixing brackets) can break during day-to-day operation.

Material of cover lens

The cover lens of HELLA auxiliary headlamps is made of high grade impact resistant plastic to ensure it can satisfy the rigorous demands of daily use. A special coating (hard coating) which complies with international ECE approval regulations is highly scratch resistant. The cover lens remains intact and light emission remains homogenous even after a collision with a branch or impacts by stones.

Lenses made of inferior plastic can break and scratch easily. Each scratch leads to undesirable light refraction and a reduction in lighting performance.

Light distribution via the reflector system

The reflectors of HELLA auxiliary headlamps are designed to ensure that the road is evenly illuminated and to utilize the light to maximum effect.

Auxiliary headlamps with unsuitable light guidance light up the road unevenly and waste much of the light produced by the light source. Brighter spots distract your eyes, making others details difficult to see.

Surface coating

High grade coatings protect the aluminum components of the "Luminator Compact LED" auxiliary headlamp against salt and chemical corrosion.

Corrosion can cause the headlamps to become unsightly. In the worst case, water can penetrate and damage the electronics.

Thermal Management

With thermal management of HELLA auxiliary headlamps nothing has been left to chance: The heat of the LEDs is distributed evenly and efficiently and removed via the housing. If there is a risk of overheating, individual LEDs are automatically dimmed.

Without thermal management, LEDs can very quickly overheat. This dramatically reduces the design life of the LEDs and can even damage them beyond repair. Hot spots can deform the entire electronics board, soldering connections can break, causing the complete headlamp to fail.

Reverse polarity

HELLA auxiliary headlamps are protected against polarity reversal. They cannot be damaged by connecting them the wrong way round.

If a wrongly connected headlamp is not protected against reverse polarity, the electronics will be completely destroyed when it is switched on.

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)

The LEDs in HELLA auxiliary headlamps are arranged so that interference by electromagnetic fields is avoided.

LED headlamps that are not correctly shielded, produce strong electromagnetic fields which interfere with the electronic system, radio and GPS and can cause safety-relevant parts in the vehicle to fail.

Electro-static discharge (ESD)

Before the employees in the LED production facility at HELLA start work, they must carry out a discharging procedure to remove any electrostatic charge they may be carrying to prevent damage to components.

Electronic components damaged by static discharge can render the entire headlamp unusable.
