TRAVELLING SNAKE EXHIBIT AVAILABLE        Dallas County Conservation is pleased to own a unique travelling exhibit. Our travelling snake exhibit consists of a 69 foot long, 10 foot high plywood rattlesnake model. Exhibit visitors can walk inside the ribs and observe dioramas and graphics teaching facts about snakes. This exhibit also includes several exciting hands on stations. Dallas County welcomes inquiries about hosting the exhibit and will certainly place nature centers and museums on the host reservation list. Keep in mind that this exhibit requires a space large enough to house a 69 foot long, 10 foot high plywood model. There is no fee for the exhibit but borrowers will need to rent a 26 foot U-Haul Truck to haul the exhibit and provide proof of insurance from their facility. Several people are required to load the exhibit and we highly recommend that three people go to pick it up. Instructions have been developed for the assembly of the exhibit. When Dallas County purchased this exhibit from Perdue University the exhibit was designed to appear once or twice a year at large venues such as the Indiana State Fair. Consequently, it is not highly portable and we prefer to loan it for at least three to six month time periods. Each facility that hosts it fills out a condition report and frequently does some light touch up to the exhibit. Several agencies have added photos and other educational items to the exhibit. Borrowers are encouraged to contribute their individual expertise to the exhibit and we welcome comments and suggestions. For more information contact Pete Malmberg, Curator, at (515) 465-3577 or e-mail [email protected]  On the Road in Iowa CCB

I.N.H.F. 2016 WALL CALENDAR – Your Events Needed! Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation's 2016 wall calendar is in the works, and they would like to add your county's event(s)—particularly events that help people experience Iowa’s great outdoors. They would appreciate information on next year's events by July 10 in order to add them to their calendar. The membership calendar is distributed to around 8,000 individuals and businesses each fall. INHF is only looking to add events that are of statewide interest. In other words, they’re not looking for every event that you sponsor during the year—just your major showcase event(s). Events of particular interest would be those on any past INHF project areas. Please reply by July 10 with any confirmed dates of your 2016 events. They will try to include as many as possible – no guarantees however

Please provide the following information for your submission(s):

* Name of event * Date(s) * Sponsoring organization * Event location (rough location, like city or park name) * Event contact information (phone number, e-mail, website)

IOWA PRAIRIE NETWORK The Iowa Prairie Network (IPN) exists to help others learn about, enjoy and protect Iowa's prairie heritage. IPN was formed in 1990 by Iowans concerned that our prairie heritage was disappearing. The preservation of these highly prestigious natural areas is crucial. Newsletters and the website identifies prairie-related information and events sponsored by IPN or others. MONARCH HABITAT CCB / DNR PARTNERSHIP ? As many of you have heard there have been extreme declines in the Monarch butterfly over the last 10 years or so. The Iowa DNR Prairie Resource Center is looking for opportunities to create Monarch habitat on public land – Nature centers, Schools, County Parks and etc. Obviously there is a cost involved in this habitat creation and they are looking for some grant funding to help support this project, but first they need to know if there is any interest? What would the Monarch habitat look like? What Bill would like to do is supply each county that is interested with a kit of locally sourced prairie grasses and forbs in the form of plugs. The plugs could be used for a Monarch habitat demonstration area on public owned land in your area. The Iowa DNR Prairie Resource Center would supply 6-10 species of native grasses and forbs that are host plants (milkweeds) and key nectar plants for Monarchs. Species such as New England aster, Prairie blazing star, Stiff goldenrod, Milkweed species and more. If you have interest in this please contact Bill Johnson, Biologist, Iowa DNR [email protected] or give him a call if you have questions at 515-543-8319.
