The Host Committee for the 2013 World Financial Group Continental Cup of Curling invites each volunteer to the Volunteer Appreciation Evening to say “thank you” for contributing your time and talents to ensure the success of this year’s Cup in Penticton. It kicks off the celebration in The Original 16 Patch, leading to the Opening Ceremonies at 8:30 pm and then the launch of the biggest party in town at Fan Appreciation Night getting underway at 9:00 pm.

Volunteer News | December 2012 WFG Continental Cup – Penticton, 2013

Countdown is in the last month ‘Twas the month before the World Financial Group Continental Cup of Curling and all through the rally, volunteers were preparing for the biggest event in the valley.”

It was great to see so many enthusiastic volunteers at the rally in November. We hope you enjoyed meeting some of the other volunteers and we hope you will put to use some of the gifts in your volunteer packages.

With Christmas just around the corner, it seems to be a “hurry up and wait” time for event planning process. But the excitement will build when we take over the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC) on January 6th and Del Haidenger and his volunteer ice crew begin putting in the pebbled ice surface.

Let’s Fill the Stands Do you have friends or family thinking about buying tickets? Make sure they “HURRY HARD” to the Box Office in the SOEC or order online at curling.ca/tickets.

The challenge is on for the volunteers that refer the most people for tickets sales by January 8th. First prize is two full event passes to the 2013 Tim Horton Brier in Edmonton, and the second prize winner receives two opening weekend tickets to the 2013 Ford Men’s Worlds in Victoria.

Stacey Jones Vice-‐Chair Special Events

Stacey Jones was born in Vancouver, BC but raised in Penticton. A licensed optician, she has worked at Visions One Optical for the past nine years. She is the proud mother of two children – a 20-‐year-‐old daughter who attends UBCO and an 18-‐year-‐old son who attends Okanagan College.

Stacey has a long history of volunteering in the community with events and organizations such as Ironman, Girl Guides and the Penticton Curling Club. When not busy working or volunteering, she loves to read and is a member of the Penticton Book Club. She is also a huge fan of travelling, whether it’s a weekend adventure or a tropical getaway.

Stacey started curling late in life due to a childhood injury that prevented her from participating at an earlier age. Because of the introduction of the stick to the sport, Stacey can now be found curling up a storm three times a week at the Penticton Curling Club where she is also a Board Member and Secretary. She was voted their Volunteer of the Year in 2011.

Who is going to bring home the Cool Shots money for their home curling club? There are five area clubs currently deciding their champions with weekly round robin play in Osoyoos, Oliver, Penticton, Winfield and Vernon.

The Cool Shots competition will heat up in The Original 16 Patch where you can sign up for free and take part in the small-scale version of the roaring game. You can be part of the championships in the Patch on Saturday, January 12 – but first you have to sign up.
