Happy Birthday USS Renegade
Crew, The USS Rengade’s 29th anniversary dinner will be in place of our next meeting. It will be Tuesday, February 13th at the Royal Sushi Grill Buffet in the Boardman plaza located at 267 Boardman-Canfield Rd (Rt 224), Boardman, OH 44512 . We will be giving out promotions and awards for 2017. Dress of the day is Business-casual or if you have nothing else just your red crew shirt. As we look toward this
new year we can focus on some fun with two mini cons this month. The Toyhio show at the Metroplex and the Beach Con in Lake Milton. I will have more info in the back of the newsletter. Let us not forget the Three Steel City Cons this year with the first in April. We do have a fel-low Starfleet member who will let us sell some of our mugs and hand out fliers in exchange for helping out at their table. After that the Region One Summit is coming up fast in May down in Pigeon Forge, TN. It will
be a great opportunity to meet some of the names from around the Region that we mention at the meetings. I know that the Command staff will be attending. Remember that we will resume meeting at Den-ny’s for our March 13th meeting in Austintown. See You at the Dinnen on the 13th! Commodore John Hoppa CO USS Renegade R1 RDC Communications
The Anniversary Dinner of the USS Renegade will be February 13th at the Royal Sushi Grill

her RIGHT hand when she ma-terializes on the ship. THE LAST OUTPOST Picard calls for a Confer-ence Evaluation and, with the exception of Data, in a situation that could change in a second, all the senior staff leaves the Bridge! WHERE NO ONE HAS GONE BEFORE What’s very wrong with the fol-lowing statement of Data’s: After they zap to Galaxy M33, someone asks how long it will take Starfleet to get the sub-space message about the test’s apparent success, and Data replies, “51 years, 10 months, 9 weeks, 16 days—” (That’s where Picard cuts him off.) “—10 months, 9 weeks, 16 days—” from DATA?! 9 weeks are 2 months and 1 week, and 16 days are 2 weeks and 2 days. Data should have said, “52 years, 3 weeks, 2 days.” (…from DATA?!?) More next month. Commodore Janice R. Graham XO, CSO, RDC-SC [email protected]
XO’s Log Thirty two years ago... I felt her die. I felt Challenger die. Something woke me up. While I was still trying to figure out what, Mom was at my door, white and too shocked to cry. "Challenger blew up." She said it quietly. That made it worse. Some things are too big, too painful for loud words. In shock and now in tears, we watched as they showed those 72 seconds over and over, trying to see what went wrong. And each time I stared, hoping to see something to give hope that the crew had survived. Something... I cried when the rescue effort took too long and became a recovery instead. I waited with the world for an explanation for how it happened, why it hap-pened. Even though eventually one was given, it didn't make sense, wasn't very satisfying; it wasn't something enormous or significant enough to take those seven people away from their families, their friends. An O ring. Really?! Yes they knew the risks. How could they not? They weren't the first to face those risks and some of the others had lost, too. Then not long afterward, Columbia died as well. I still mourn the losses but I also celebrate those people who had the bravery to know those risks and take that step anyway. If we fast-forward to the Trek world, their names will live on even then in the shut-
tles and ships named for them. There is some comfort in that. Some.
Fun Bits… Some of these have been in the newsletter already but it was some time ago. We have new members who didn't see them so I'm going to start at the top and put a few in each month. Except for the Voyager episode "Fury." It will take up a lot by itself! I don't have all of the episodes done. These are just from the ones I have already gone over for trivia. THE NAKED NOW Fun Bits: Data returns to the Bridge from Yar’s quarters. Picard: Ah, good, Da-ta—at least you’re functioning. Data (with a huge smirk): FULLY—Captain! But: why would DATA be affect-ed by a biological virus anyway? He wouldn’t (he’s an android). He was smirking about his…activities…with Yar. However, Data can’t show emotion so it’s a mistake for him to “smirk” un-less he WAS affected which he CAN’T be…! CODE OF HONOR Yar fights Yareena with a gauntlet with poison spines and blades, called a “glavin.” It can also magically change hands which you can see just before Yar and Yareena beam to the ship and just after. It’s on Yar’s left hand for the fight and beam-out but is suddenly on

can-American Festival in down-town Warren the first weekend in June. Our studio is partnering with them in making the pieces and they will be doing the mar-keting (also online.). Although the Carousel Party Van has been quiet, and the studio has slowed down a bit since the holidays, we have been invited to do a bi-monthly ceramics class at Park Vista in Youngs-town. Although the facility does pay a fee, working with seniors, nursing home residents, and folks in workshops for the disa-bled is mostly an act of service and of love. Because of our upcoming vaca-tion, we will be unable to attend the Comic Con in April. Howev-er, Jeremy’s nephew, niece, and her husband will be taking him so that he doesn’t miss meeting the Star Trek actors who will be there.
Commodore John Hoppa.–
Not Much here in the way of
Trek stuff. I bought my Tickets
for the April Steel City Con.
Michael Dorn and Terry Farrell
are the two Trek guest there
but the big news it that Ian
McDiarmid will be there. If you
are not familiar with the name
he plays Emperor Palpatine in
Return of The Jedi and he was
also in Episode I, II, & III. I’m
looking forward to that.
I will finally get the chance to
meet Phil Collen, guitar player
from Def Leppard, this month
at the Northfield Rockcino . I
will be attending the G3 con-
cert where Phil, Joe Satriani, &
John Petrucci will be jamming
together for the night. I have
the meet and greet pass so I
will have him sign one of his
signature guitars that I ob-
tained about a decade or so
ago.
Other than that I will be get-
ting ready for the Region One
Summit in May in Pigeon
Forge TN.
