MEETINGS

Monthly meetings are held at 7.30 pm on the first Friday of each month at the clubrooms, corner of Docker and Morgan Streets, Wagga Wagga. All members, guests and visitors are welcome.

CLUB EVENTS

Club events are held on various days during the year. Please check the "Coming Events" section of this newsletter for details. For vehicles on “Club Plates”, a copy of the club magazine with the ‘Events calendar’ showing the sanctioned events must be in the member’s vehicle when on these specific events.

STATEMENT OF OBJECTS

The Club's Statement of Objects is as follows:

For the association of persons interested in Veteran, Vintage, Classic and Post Classic motor vehicles.

To encourage the restoration, preservation, use and display of these vehicles and associated literature, films, photographs, tape recordings and video tapes.

To demonstrate the capabilities of these vehicles by engaging in competitions including economy trials, regularity runs, observation events, motorkhanas, concourse competitions and vehicle rallies.

To encourage goodwill, friendship, and communication between members of this Club, and between members of this Club and all other persons, clubs and associations having like Objectives.

DeBono that the minutes from the Monthly Meeting held on the 1st March 2019 and as read at the April Meeting be accepted. ALPINE TOUR, 18-22 MARCH, 2019. The team (excluding Charles & Trish who joined us at Thredbo) got away from Apex Park a bit after 9.00 and proceeded to Rosewood for morning tea, then Tumbarumba where most bought lunch to consume at Paddys River Falls. Despite the drought, there was a good flow of water over the falls.

Next, on to Tooma and afternoon tea at Scott & Meryle’s property, then on to Corryong for our first night. It was an easy stroll from the Motel to the pub for dinner.

Day two: a bit of a look around Corryong including the Man From Snowy River Museum, then on to Thredbo for two nights, having lunch at Khancoban. The Chrysler got a bit hot on the climb and needed a rest not far from the top. No other troubles were reported.

About half of the group climbed Mt Kosciuszko the next morning, taking the ski lift then a 13km return walk to the summit (2 hours up, 1.5 hours back). Weather conditions were excellent. Rocky consumed the most oxygen!

Day four: Thredbo to Talbingo via the Cooma Wrecking Yard was the longest drive of the trip. 4000 vehicles on 20 acres is a huge number to look at. The older stuff is pretty well picked over but still worth a look for that illusive part.

Those not interested in the wrecking yard had a look around the shops in Cooma. The clouds closed in as we drove to Talbingo and many cars copped a good downpour with thunder and lightening. IanH confided that he and ChrisH were so close to a lightening strike that he was forced to utter a profanity and to check that he still had a boot lid.

We enjoyed a pre-booked dinner at Talbingo Lodge.

Julie had avoided the drive home by catching an ambulance and Careflight chopper to Canberra Hospital. Rocky gave regular updates by text message.

Day five: homeward bound via Tumut, again through heavy rain.

EXTRAS Just a couple of little things along the way:

We worked out why the FitzPatricks couldn’t come. There is NO RUNNING on the path to the top of Mt Kosciuszko.

And some of us had to brave the water to rescue their lift pass from an icy stream. Luckily no one got wet or it would have been a very cold trip down the mountain.

Grint (Ron Weasley) owns one of the original cars used in the making of the movie. It is now on display at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, Hampshire, England. The car used in the movie is a turquoise 1962 Ford Anglia.
