Musings from the Gavel

Spring has officially arrived and in the words of Robin Williams,“Spring is nature’s way of saying ‘Let’s party!’“. Of course, here inColorado, Mother Nature didn’t get the message as witnessed by theBlizzard on March 23rd. Hopefully, we can still have some fun inbetween the mixed-up weather days. This brings me to the RMTCMotoring Challenge! By the time you are reading this, the Challengewill have begun. If you missed hearing about it, you can check theMarch Newsletter for all the information and print the forms that youwill need. Thank you again to Rod Tomkins and Mark Bosler fororganizing this event for the Club.

Be sure to check the Events Calendar as we have some other funthings coming up. Although the Bishop’s Castle drive is four monthsaway, the hotels in Salida are filling up fast. If you plan to do theovernight drive, please make your reservations as soon as possible. Itwould be a shame to miss out because you have nowhere to sleep!

So - get out there and drive your Triumph! As the web page forBritish Car Week states: “Drive “Em, Don’t Hide ‘Em”. Hope to seeyou out on the road soon (when the snow melts)!

Dear RMTC,This year the club is proud to offer several new events along with our favorites and a few we haven’t done in a while. On May 1stSteve Hart will lead a walking historical tour of LoDo. June 5th is the Arapahoe Community College Car Show. July 16 and 17 presentsan overnighter to Bishop’s Castle organized by Gordon Kenney. On October 15th Patrick Huckels hosts Okoberfest. Our first (soon tobe annual) RMTC Motoring Challenge will be yet another great new way to get in your cars and go explore our beautiful state.

Tried and true events: the Becwar’s Coors VIP Tour, the Klie family St. Francis, Ks. Car Show, LaLa Palooza Car Show, GlenwoodSprings Rally, Father’s Day picnic, Rollinsville Highway clean up, Mt. Evans drive, Ride the Rockies and the Colorado Conclave. Anddon’t forget our 25th Annual Spring Car Show!

I am so pleased to see members speaking out, coming up with new and inventive ideas while keeping some of the favorite old ones. This is the essence of what Rocky Mountain Triumph Club is all about. (If by now you have suffered through this much of my articlemaybe it will inspire an idea for an event.) Remember, it doesn’t have to be a big event! It can be an easy impromptu drive to yourfavorite spot or go watch the ice racing in Georgetown for example. Participation is how this club works. If you have an idea for a clubevent contact me at [email protected] or 720-404-5892. Thank you, Jeff Otto RMTC Events Coordinator

LODO WALKING TOUR MAY 1STLoDo was Denver's original downtown, with some of the oldest buildings in the city. Steve Hart's tours emphasize thetransportation history of early Denver--covered wagons, stagecoaches, steamboats, railroads, and streetcars. So, westart at Denver Union Station, then visit the streetcar station, the stagecoach station, Cherry Creek, and the corral wherehorses, covered wagons, and worn-out oxen could be traded in for a proper prospector's New Mexican mule or burro.Along the way, he discusses Colorado's first mint, the 1880's railroad hotel boom, and the 1893 Silver Crash thatbrought Denver's growth to an overnight halt.

The largest brewery in Denver (not Golden)--the Tivoli--was located just across Cherry Creek from LoDo. Before theTivoli Brewery closed in the early 1970's, it was home to the Brewery Bar Mexican Restaurant. Although today theTivoli is the Auraria Campus Student Union and just opened a new microbrewery, it has no Brewery Bar because therestaurant moved to 1st and Kalamath and became Brewery Bar II. Steve has been eating lunch there since the late1970's and it is still his favorite place in Denver for Mexican food.

So, join Steve on Sunday, May 1, at 10:00 am for a LoDo tour and lunch. You'll not only learn some LoDo history, butundoubtedly become a Brewery Bar II aficionado too!"

Thanks,Steve Hart

Triumph TR-X ConceptThe Triumph TRX concept which was unveiled at the

1950 London Motor Show was a aerodynamic, aluminum-bodied roadster based on a slightly stretched StandardVanguard platform.

The electrically operated headlight covers were unusual for the time and gave the TRX an extremely clean appearancefrom the front. Electrically controlled hydraulics were used to adjust the position of the bench-style seat, raise andlower the convertible roof, and deploy the built-in hydraulic jacks.

The Triumph TRX was powered by a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder engine with twin carburetors. In total just 3 TRX prototypeswere constructed. Two are still in existence, while the third sadly caught fire and was destroyed.

The TRX never spawned a similarly styled production model. Instead Triumph opted to manufacture the TriumphTR2. Both the TRX and the TR2 were designed by Walter Belgrove.

RMTC Board MeetingMarch 7, 2016Present: Debbie Bosler, Jeff Otto, Marla Otto, Mike McGuire, Patrick Huckels, Janet Cline, Liz ReedGuests: Ralph Malewska, Andrej Galins, Barb McGuire, Rod Tomkins, Mark BoslerDebbie called the meeting to order at 6:55pm. She asked that all board members use the Triumph Board email distribution listthat Andrej had set up for all board communications.Speakers have been scheduled for both the March and April general meetings.Due to the rules of an LLC, there has to be an LLC meeting as part of the April board meeting to sign LLC paperwork forupcoming year. Both the July and September board meetings have been moved due to the holidays. The meetings are now July 11 and September12th.Board reviewed and discussed about half of the By-law revisions. They hope to complete the task at the April board meeting andwill present to the members at the April general meeting.Secretary – Liz ReedNo updates.Events – Jeff OttoSpring car tune-up will be April 16; please send all pertinent information to Andrej so that he can upload to the RMTC websiteand to Jeff for inclusion in the monthly newsletters.Spring car show is May 22 at Gunther Toody’s on Arapahoe Road. Andrej created a super poster for the car show that will bedisplayed at Gunther Toody’s as well as at other businesses in the area. Discussion regarding ordering t-shirts for the car show asthis is the 25th annual show. Marla made the motion to order t-shirts; Jeff seconded. Motion passed. Andrej to design and ordert-shirts using the poster as a guide. We can bring the club cabanas to use. Gunther Toody’s will donate something for the raffle.Treasurer – Marla OttoMarla is preparing the corporate tax return. It should be completed and mailed in a couple of weeks.Regalia – Patrick HuckelsPatrick will order 25 dash plaques for the car show. No ribbons as there will be no judging of cars.It was suggested that for future raffles at the general meetings, there are fewer prizes but they are more valuable items from whichto choose.Webmaster – Andrej GalinsAndrej can set up the RMTC website to work with Café Press. Café Press would work as an online store for RMTC items. Theycannot offer items with embroidery, however they do silk screen. Andrej will send them the RMTC logo and work with their ITguy to get this set up. The cost to the club for this feature would be based on the number of items sold per month. Each membercan order any item and it will be shipped directly to their home.Membership – Janet ClineJanet took several members off of the roster as they had not responded to her emails regarding their expired RMTC memberships. There are now 116 member families. Suggestion – should another RMTC member call to discuss their reasons for not renewingtheir dues? It was decided that it wouldn’t hurt for another member to call to discuss.Publisher – Mark BoslerMark wanted to know how urgent it was to get the newsletter mailed each month. Most of the members receive the newsletter viaemail; it was decided that within a week of sending out would be fine.Guest – Rod TomkinsRod attended a meeting with the Colorado Car Collector Council (CCCC). This council is made up of members from other carclubs (38 other car clubs), as well as car enthusiasts. They expect to have representatives from 60 car clubs by the end of 2016.This is more of a legislative council; they are the group who lobbied for the 5-year license plate for all older/no longer made carsand trucks.Leo Boyd, lobbyist for CCCC, is in the process of forming a PAC which would be separate from the CCCC.The cost is $50 per year per club, with an additional $4 per car to join. Please look at their website to see what they have doneand are trying to do now; thecollectorcarcouncil.com.Rod will ask a representative from CCCC to speak at the May general meeting. The RMTC board will make a decision onwhether or not to join, after the May meeting.Meeting adjourned at 8:40pm.Respectfully Submitted,Liz ReedMinister of Letters
