WELCOME MESSAGE

On behalf of the International Joints and Bearings Research Council, I am pleased to invite you to the 8th World Congress on Joints, Bearings and Seismic Systems for Concrete Structures.

The Congress, which is held every 5 years, is the only technical seminar dedicated to these important devices which are critical to the performance of civil engineering structures. The 8th World Congress coincides with the 35th anniversary of the International Joints and Bearings Research Council and promises to be an educational forum with presentations by some of the leading practitioners in this field from around the world.

The city of Atlanta is the host for this year’s Congress. Atlanta is a major metropolitan center of business and commerce with a population of more than 5 million, making it America’s ninth largest city. In the middle of an urban resurgence, around every corner is a new attraction, restaurant, or shopping opportunity. Atlanta is also America’s most accessible city with direct, non-stop service to more than 150 U.S. destinations—80 percent of those within a 2-hour flight. It’s also the second busiest airport for international flights. And with the MARTA station located inside the airport, visitors can roll into town without a car. Atlanta should be an exciting destination for those in attendance. The venue for the 8th World Congress is the Atlanta Marriott Buckhead Hotel & Conference Center which should provide an outstanding backdrop for the Congress.

Make sure that you mark these dates down on your calendar and join me in Atlanta this September for this outstanding event.

Concrete Structures

September 25-29, 2016 • Atlanta, GA USA

CONGRESS INVITATION

The first World Congress on Joints and Bearings was held in Niagara Falls, NY, in 1981. Since that very successful meeting, Congresses have been held every 5 years: San Antonio, TX, in 1986; Toronto, ON, Canada, in 1991; Sacramento, CA, in 1996; Rome, Italy, in 2001; Halifax, NS, Canada, in 2006; and Las Vegas, NV, in 2011.

The Congress will serve as a forum to bring together manufacturers, suppliers, and installers of joint systems, bearing systems, and seismic devices with engineers, specifiers, contractors, and researchers to review the present state of knowledge and practice worldwide and to define future research needs.

The technical program during the Congress will include keynote and invited speakers, presentation of offered papers, and manufacturers’ exhibits featuring the latest technology.
