Pan Am bound Catcher Christian Correa will depart Sunday to join the Colombian National Team in the Pan Am games in Peru. Correa will be gone for a week and will return at Lincoln next Saturday. Correa was born and raised in the Miami area, but his family roots are firmly in Colombia. His mother was born there, and he still has family there. He also has played winter ball in the country as well. The Colombian team is trying to qualify for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo as baseball will return to the games next year.

Ouch…that will leave a mark!

The T-Bones lead the league in hitting batters from the mound. The club leads the circuit with 50 hit by pitches. Last season the team was tied for second most in the AA with 68. The batters have been hit 30 times this season after being hit only 45 times all last season tied for 7th.

Vs. St. Paul

The T-Bones are 27-32 against St. Paul in the American Association. The two teams met up last season in the American Association Playoffs the first time the two clubs had met in the post season. While KC enjoyed success against the Saints when it counted in the post season the team has struggled against St. Paul the last two seasons. KC is 3-10 against St. Paul overall in regular season matchups the last two years. In 2017 the T-Bones won both series going 4-2 against the Saints including a walk off winner on Labor Day to close out the season.

Freebies

The T-Bones are second in the league in walks issued at 276 and lead the league in hit by pitches. The club leads the circuit with 49 hit by pitches

added with the walks have given away 325 free bases. In an interesting twist the club has issued just one intentional walk all season that coming last

night at Sioux Falls issued by Kevin Hamann. While the free passed total is the highest in the league the staff has allowed the fewest hits in the circuit

having allowed just 505.

Meet the “Man on the top step” Joe Calfapietra was named 2018 American Association Manager of the year September 4th after leading

the T-Bones to a 62-37 record and a playoff berth as the second-place finishers in the south division. He led

the team to their first title as members of the American Association and the third in franchise history. The Eastern College alum also helped a league-leading eight players into organizational ball since the end of the

2017 season. Calfapietra is in his second season as the T-Bones’ manager and became the first manager in

franchise history to have back to back winning seasons in 2018. The 46-year-old has an overall record of

967-820 in 19 seasons as a manager, all at the independent level. Joe Calfapietra was named the T-Bones sixth manager in the club’s history on November 30, 2016. Calfapietra (pronounced Cal-fa-pee-eh-tra), 47,

brings an overall record of 905-783 into his second season in Kansas City and his 18th season as a manager,

all at the independent level. Calfapietra guided Kansas City to the second-best overall franchise record in

the club’s history (57-43) with the team finishing in a three-way tie for a post season spot for the league the wild card. The T-Bones did not advance due to a tie breaker but Calfapietra turned over the 2017 roster

with only one hold over from the 2016 helping the club reached a franchise high of 84 days above .500 out

of a 109-day season. Despite a 1-5 start to begin the season, his 2017 club reached .500 at 7-7 at Sioux

Falls on June 2nd and stayed at or above for 93 days and 83 in a row. With the win on August 26th at Gary, Calfapietra won his 900th career game. He hit the 50-win mark August 23rd at home against Cleburne for

the seventh straight season. Calfapietra spent 14 seasons as the manager of the New Jersey Jackals of the

Can-Am League before taking over the dugout reigns of the T-Bones in 2017. While in New Jersey, only

four of those 14 teams did not reach the postseason. The Jackals won the league championship in 2004, at

the end of Calfapietra’s second season in New Jersey, and then his teams reached the league championship

series in five consecutive seasons, 2011-15. In 2016, the Jackals went 62-38, before losing in the first round

of the Can-Am playoffs. The T-Bones and Calfapietra’s Jackals faced each other seven times in interleague

play since 2012, with New Jersey winning four of those games. Calfapietra started his coaching career in 1994 in this organization, when the T-Bones were in Duluth, Minn., and were known as the Dukes. In 2002, Calfapietra was the first-ever manager of the Gary SouthShore RailCats, where

he was the league manager of the year, before starting with New Jersey the following season. Calfapietra lives in Collegeville, Pa., with his wife and

their two daughters, ages 17 and 11. Calfapietra is the T-Bones’ sixth manager since the team moved from Duluth prior to the 2003 season and when

he took over in 2017 he replaced John Massarelli, who went 139-160 in three seasons with Kansas City, including 42-58 in 2016.

T-Bones Win 3rd Straight, Take Series July 28, 2017 KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones notched their third straight victory, 6-2, over the Texas Airhogs on Friday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The T-Bones started things off hot in the first inning with a two-run home run from Keyin Keyes. The first baseman worked his way back up to the tie for first place in the American Association with his 17th home run of the season. Texas tried to halt Kansas City’s momentum with a sacrifice fly from Beamer Weems scoring Charley Thurber, cutting their deficit to one going into the bottom of the second. Kansas City extended their lead back to two in the third with an error by third baseman, Casio Grider, allowing the T-Bones’ third baseman, Marcus Lemon, to score. Keyes launched a solo home run in the fifth, securing his 18th of the season to take sole possession as the American Association’s home run leader and to put the T-Bones up 4-1. An RBI single by designated hitter, Leo Rojas, stretched the lead to four runs going into the sixth inning. The Airhogs attempted to make a comeback, but could only contribute one final run in the sixth inning. A Denis Phipps RBI double scored brought in first baseman, Levi Scott, for their second and final run of the matchup. The T-Bones, however, continued to bring the energy going into the final innings and launched their third home run of the evening, this time by Cedric Hunter. The center fielder’s first home run with the T-Bones organization extended their lead to 6-2 going into the seventh. With the Airhogs unable to score any further, the T-Bones took the series and won their third straight game, 6-2.

Right-handed pitcher, Scott Carroll (6-3, 3.19) notched the victory and Airhogs’ righty, TJ Bozeman (3-5, 3.12) suffered the loss in the third matchup.
