Kansas City defeats El Paso in game two of the series

06/19/2012 - Behind a complete game shutout by Josh Rainwater, the T-Bones defeated the Diablos 10-0 on Tuesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in front of a crowd of 5,011. It was the second straight start in which Rainwater pitched nine innings, but in his last start, on June 13 against Newark, the T-Bones lost in 10 innings, so Rainwater did not record a win despite allowing just one run. Thanks to ample run support from his teammates, tonight’s win was never in question. “I think that’s awesome,” Hook said. “We didn’t get it done last time for him, so it’s great to see. He was only right at 100 pitches through nine innings, so that tells you how good he was tonight.” Kansas City took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Brandon Jones doubled in Gus Milner, and the T-Bones added another run in the fourth when Hunter Mense hit a solo home run to right field. In the fifth Devin Goodwin blasted a two-run homer over the left field wall, increasing the T-Bones’ advantage to 4-0. With two outs, Mense singled in Justin Bass, capping the fifth with a 5-0 lead. Goodwin’s sacrifice fly in the sixth inning scored Jose Duran, pushing Kansas City’s advantage to 6-0. Every T-Bone in the lineup batted in the eighth as the team added four more runs. During the seventh inning stretch, Kansas City announced the retirement of Kala Ka’aihue, who went two for four and hitting a home run in Monday night’s game. In his two years with the T-Bones, Ka’aihue batted .272 with 26 home runs and 70 RBI. The win lifts the T-Bones to 15-16.
