“No One Wants To Be A Part Of A Generation Who Looks Past Another Van Gogh.”

From Harlem, with an aesthetic reaching far beyond his urban surroundings, comes Justin “Jay” West; a 22-year old Contemporary and Modern Artist. Influenced by his love of Art Deco and Renaissance Art, his peers and his own sense of self, diving into the realm of Jay West is like entering a place no one has ever been. Jay West is an all around visual artist whose main focus is pop art and Surrealism. His work is about juxtaposition, mixing opposites, and colliding worlds. It’s the renaissance meeting the modern world. Using themes of Greek mythology, religious references, and popular cartoon characters, West's paintings tell a tale of defeat and triumph, life's experiences, oppression and celebration. Compelling. Intriguing. Captivating. Each work of art seems as if Jay West dips his paintbrush into his very own soul to illustrate and transform ideas into images others will appreciate. An African American artist who isn’t confined or constricted, he is someone who thinks outside of the box, pays attention to realism and sees Michael Angelo as his mentor posthumous. Leonardo Da Vinci once said, “Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt.” And Jay West’s pieces speak in volumes. Behind every paintbrush there’s an artist waiting to welcome us into their world. Welcome to the world of, Jay West.
