WELCOME FROM OUR JOINT MANAGER STEVE DORMER

Fleet Town is an unincorporated association, managed by a committee, currently comprising of the following individuals: Alec Grant, Richard Whittington, Chris Arnold, Harry Cannon, Darren Edwards and Nathan Cookson.

Good afternoon to you all and a warm welcome to The Franki Foundations Stadium. In particular the Officials and supporters of AFC Rushden & Diamonds who are our opponents for todays match, we wish them all a Happy New Year and a pleasant stay with us. In my view Rushden & Diamonds are the strongest side we have played so far this season and gave us a football lesson when we went to their ground in August. Interestingly we now only have 3 players still with us from that game, however I still expect them to be the League Champions when the end of the season comes. For Andy and I it’s a great test for us today to see how far we have come and we will certainly be doing our utmost to get something from the game. It’s a free shot for us as no one is expecting us to do anything else but lose. However we have nothing to fear and it’s a great test for the players to see if they are good enough to compete against teams at the top end of the table, rather like we did against Dunstable recently. Since Dunstable we have played 3 games away from home, a decent draw at Moneyfields on Boxing Day when we should have gone ahead in the game early on with two great opportunities falling to Matt Bunyan. We then went one nil down in the second half against the run of play but came back to get a penalty and hang on for the draw. Last Saturday we went away to Arlesey Town who sit at the bottom of the table, again we had another penalty won by George Pillbeam but unfortunately for us we missed it right on half time. Despite hitting both posts and the crossbar we never had quite enough to gain the win but we didn’t lose the game. Arlesey needed the win more than us and being away from home I’ll take draws all day long on our travels. On Tuesday evening we went away to Chalfont St. Peter when after an even first half we really came in to it in the second and were slightly disappointed we didn’t come away with all 3 points, again I would have taken the draw before the game . We have now gone I believe 12 games in all competitions with only one loss so we have come such a long way considering we didn’t get a win in our first nine games of the season. We rested both Luke Haskell and Bradley Wilson for the game against Chalfont. Patrick Ruscika is now back from his Christmas break and if he trained well on Thursday will be in the squad for today’s game. Ashley Lloyd is still suspended and we should see him back after our mid-week game in the cup against AFC Totton. Alex Hendrie is struggling to get regular football for us at the moment so he has been given the opportunity to get it, back with Abbey Rangers and we wish Alex all the best. We have no current injuries in the squad which is a first for the season. Finally I’d like to say a special thank you to our supporters who made the trips to the last 3 away games it doesn’t go un-noticed. Lets hear you all today as I am sure our opponents will come with plenty of support. Enjoy the game and ‘ Come on you Blues.’

THE HISTORY AND PEN PICS OF AFC RUSHDEN & DIAMONDS

AFC Rushden & Diamonds was formed in 2011 following the demise of Rushden & Diamonds FC as a

supporter-owned, supporter-run football club. After a season in youth football in 2011-12 they were allocated

a place in the United Counties League Division One for 2012-13. They gained promotion in second spot in that

league at the end of their first season, and followed that with third place in the UCL Premier Division before

winning the title in the 2014-15 season, backed up with the League Cup. This meant they won promotion to the

Southern Football League Division One Central. In 2015-16 they finished fifth in the SL1C, reaching the

playoff final and winning their County Cup. They were transferred to the Northern Premier League First

Division South for the 2016-17 season where they again reached the end of season playoffs. For 2017-18 they

have returned to the Southern League to play in Division One East, known as EVO-Stik League South, East.

After five seasons playing at the Dog & Duck in Wellingborough, they have moved to Hayden Road, Rushden,

where they share facilities with Rushden & Higham United. The ground is the former home of Rushden Town.

They have adopted a “Community Benefit Society” constitution accredited by the FSA. This reinforces the

principles of One Fan, One Vote and ensures that the club and its assets are protected on behalf of the

community in the long term. With 750 club members, today the club has 30 teams of all ages including

Academy, Development, and Community teams not forgetting the much respected multi disability team; all

wearing the traditional Diamonds white shirt.

Being a community members club means that to succeed and achieve long term plans, the club aims to sustain

a strong youth and community football base, whilst engaging and gaining the support from the local

community.

injury problem led to him being released he went to Rugby Town and then on to Daventry Town and Histon. During

this period he was a finalist in the Samsung “Win A Pro Contract” competition. Since then he has been with Sutton

United and Tamworth before a spell with Kettering Town and then rejoining the Steelmen. After a successful 2015-

serious injury saw his release. He picked up an injury during the pre-season, and only managed 16 appearances in

central midfield for the club during the 2016-17 season, but returned to play a regular role in the 2017-18 season.

much-needed cover in that position. He was also the top scorer in 2015/16 with 15 goals as the club played their first

season at Step 4, picking up the Manager’s player of the season award. He became the club’s overall top scorer
