Hello Division 3 South! Arbyn here with another issue of the division

newsletter! I hope everyone is doing will transitioning from summer

vacation to the new school year. And I also hope that everyone is

effectively balancing academics, extracurriculars, and their social life.

Remember, whenever you need help with these things, know that I as

well as the Division Leadership Team are here to listen and help you

with any issues.

BEE on the lookout for very important dates for Key Club! There will

many opportunities for you to get involved through home club or the

division. September 27, Saturday, from 9AM to 4PM is Region 7 Training

Conference, an annual event where the divisions in our region gather

to attend a large selection of educational workshops and have the

opportunity to bond with the members of the division. It is a truly

enriching event, so I recommend that YOU to attend whether you are

an officer or not! There will be more projects, which can be found in

this newsletter.

Also, remember that it is dues season! Be sure to turn in your dues a

soon as possible. Dues for this division will be $13: $7.00 to Key Club

International, $4.50 to the CNH District, and a $1.50 donation to

Pediatric Trauma. If you have any questions or concerns, let me know,

and I would happily answer them.

And now, enjoy this great newsletter compiled by Division News Editor

Eileen. Be sure to compliment here when you get the chance.

FAVORITE SERVICE EVENT: I think my

favorite service project would be Duck

Splash because it was probably the first

division event I went to when I started

key club, and I thought it was really fun

holding a booth and helping out with

the whole thing. I had a lot of fun

hanging out with friends, and seeing so

many cute little kids playing games and

enjoying themselves that day.

FAVORITE SERVICE EVENT: My favorite

service event was the AIDs walk

because it gave me the chance to

support a great cause and really get to

know other key club members during

the long walk.

WHAT IS YOUR

FAVORITE

SERVICE EVENT?

Page 7: Official D03S Newsletter - October Issue

Hello dearest Key Club members! I

would like to start off by saying how

nice it was seeing a whole lot of you

during the summer at both service

and social events! Despite the fact

that summer is over and the new

school year has kicked in about a

month ago, I hope everyone

continues to serve with every

opportunity they get!

With that said, I highly encourage you

all to send in photos or your thoughts

on a service project to your

respective club editor! By doing so,

you’ll be sharing moments with those

who were unable to attend an event,

but also encouraging them to try and

make it to the next one. Furthermore,

every article gets published here on

the Division Newsletter!

So after reading this newsletter, I

hope you all take part in every event

you’re able to attend and send in

either a photo or your thoughts on a

project to your respective club editor!

Enjoy!

Sincerely,

Eileen Wisco

FAVORITE SERVICE EVENT: My favorite

service event would have to be any event

with Child SHARE. Although our tasks may

seem simple from time to time (such as

inserting papers into binders) what we

make are given to foster kids who usually

receive hand-me-downs. We’re giving

them something they could call their own,

which I find to be quite precious.

FAVORITE SERVICE EVENT: My favorite

service event was the division beach

cleanup at Santa Monica for August

DCM. It was really fun walking along the

coast and picking up trash and meeting

new people, a lot of who are new to Key

Club. They were incredibly excited and

passionate on being a part of this

wonderful organization, and it makes me

happy to hear that they wish to help and

give back to the community with caring

and service.

AMI PATEL FUNDRAISING COORDINATOR

FAVORITE SERVICE EVENT: My favorite

service event is Rose Float Decorating

because from cutting flowers to applying

them on the floats, every member makes

the parade happen. I receive a sense of

satisfaction knowing that I played a role in

the making of a float. Also going on the

scaffolding to decorate some of the floats

is so exciting; in my opinion this is an

unforgettable event.

On August 10th I had the pleasure

of participating in the annual Children's

Art Festival held by Paramount Picture

Studios.

Tying balloons, setting up tables,

and passing out flyers may seem like

tedious work, but really seeing the smile

on all the children's faces makes it

worthwhile. We got to meet some really

cool people and worked with other

volunteers who made this event

happen.

It was my first time participating in

this event, and I have to say it taught me

a lot about appreciating your

community and the hard work behind the scenes that is required to

give your family an event to

remember.

SALVATION

ARMY’S RICE AND

BEANS

I walked into the Salvation Army of

Glendale to help out at their food

sorting with cans. I was expecting first

that the place would have been filled

with bustling Kiwanians and Key

Clubbers sorting foods out like the Rice

and Beans the Salvation Army asks us to

help out at, but this time the event was

empty and quiet, save for a member

and two officers. I found the event to

be quite relaxing and enjoyable, and

also confusing when I kept mixing up

the cans from sizes. It was no trouble on

the other hand, most of the other

volunteers that came to help knew

what to do and I was relieved with their

assistance time to time. The next time

Hoover comes to help out, I'm positive

that I can be more efficient with

organization and make this task a quick

and easy one.

CHRISTIAN ACFALLE HERBERT HOOVER

We have partnered with the Salvation

Army of Glendale to help out at their

food pantry as a recurring event! On

August 16th, key clubbers were given

the task of looking for expired foods

within their shelves and tossing them

out. We found a huge number of cans

that dated back to 2006, so it seems like

the task at hand was important

enough. Overall it took about 2 hours,

but most of the cans were tossed and

neatly organized for the next pick up.

We hope to continue volunteering there

as a bimonthly event.

Working with a fantastic

organization such as Child S.H.A.R.E

is what keeps me working with Key

Club. Both organizations share a

common goal, and that's caring.

We were invited to help create

favors for the upcoming Gala

coming in September, and the

gala is one of the premiere events

that our club has to prepare for in

helping out because it is a formal

event with everyone being at the

top of their game. The members

and officers that came to help out

worked with just wrapping up

simple thank you gifts for the

guests, and my favorite moment

from helping out was when one of

their employees brought their dog

over, Bentley and he stayed in the

room with us occasionally licking

our hands from time to time. I can't

wait for the gala come up, it brings

a lot of people together that want

to help out children in need and

again, caring is what we all come

together for when helping

someone out.

CHRISTIAN ACFALLE HERBERT HOOVER

As Child S.H.A.R.E's fundraising

gala approaches, they need

to begin sending out the

invitations. Key Clubbers

gathered at their

headquarters on a Friday

afternoon to begin the

preparation of the invitational

trinkets (bottle stoppers),

which were finished in only 2

hours (There were around 250

invitations to be sent)! It is

always a pleasant experience

volunteering at ChildSHARE.

We get to work in a

comfortable area with very

friendly people, not to

mention a couple of pets also.

We will be volunteering at

their Fundraising Gala on the

13th of September.

Key Club members from all over Division 3 South

gathered in Santa Monica for our second clean

up partnered with Heal the Bay. Because we

have adopted the beach for 3 different events,

we go over to our designated region and pick

up any trash left behind on the sand and in the

water. There was not as much to pick up as we

expected, but there was still a significant

amount. There was a large amount of members

who came from each school, totaling to about

70, making for a really pleasant and fun

experience.

MAGY AVEDISSIAN HERBERT HOOVER

The beach cleanup at Santa Monica was a

blast! This division event not only turned out to

be a fun event, but BIG. Around seventy

people came to help out and we quickly set

off cleaning up a couple miles north from the

pier on the beach and picked up trash. I got

to meet some new faces, and a couple of

revived clubs showed up as well to lend new

hands and being part of our ever-growing

ohana in Division 3 South. Walking back to the

pier (and at our meeting area) was my

favorite moment at the event, we got to bond

with each and walk along the coast as the

waves came in and water would pass through

our feet before going back into the ocean.

Clean ups are always the best, and especially

with an event such as this at Santa Monica, it

reminded me so much of the Region 7 Beach

Cleanup last month. I can't wait for the next

time the division comes back to cleaning up

the beach again, I hope there's gonna be

more people involved and make this even

more exciting!

The 3 South Wolves strike again! Our

division had the amazing opportunity to

partner up with the Santa Monica

Beach to "heal the bay" by cleaning up

their beach. Not only was the event fun

and relaxing, it was a great way to

bring service to our community. We

picked up trash along the shore and

held our DCM afterwards. The turnout

was great as we had more than 70

people attending, and I couldn't think

of a better way to spend my Saturday

than to bond and interact with my

division.

CHERRYN PARQUE HERBERT HOOVER

The Division Beach Clean-Up started on

a warm Saturday morning filled with

new and familiar faces. On arrival I

knew we were going to have a blast.

The moment we stepped foot in the

sand we established our headquarters

and began our two-mile walk to make

Santa Monica even more beautiful.

After the two-mile walk, we gathered

as a division to hold out monthly

Division Council Meeting where I

presented the club report for John

Marshall and our school was awarded

Club of the Month by the Division

Leadership Team! After other awards

were given, I assisted in

teaching/leading the cheers that our

division plans on using for this year's Fall

Rally South. Afterwards, I enjoyed the

rest of the day at the beach

celebrating a close friend's birthday,

socializing, and swimming until it was

time to go home and look forward to

the next division event.

ERNESTINE HONG JOHN MARSHALL

This being our first official Key Club event of the

school year, we were able to recruit a new group

of several enthusiastic freshmen and new students

to begin the month of August. Cleaning up the

beach with several other fellow Key Clubbers was

an enjoyable and rewarding feeling for all our new

members. Throughout the day, we were all able to

see families and different kinds of people enjoy the

beach while we were cleaning. Volunteering to

make the beach a more enjoyable place to the

public was a great feeling. We encountered

people who questioned why all of us Key Clubbers

were doing such a great deed without any actual

reward. We all knew that doing service for others

does not need a reward in return. Also, we learned

that public places are taken for granted when we

saw all the filth that was collected. We helped save

time for others and worked together to help

humanity enjoy the natural environment of the

beach. Being part of Kiwanis Key Club became

more appreciative to all members of Holy Family

throughout this first event.

The Summer Festival was held on August 23rd and was held at St. Ignatius Church. At the event we

helped the games and stands with all the people that attended the festival. Although it was hot, it

was really fun interacting with the community of Highland Park. Helping all the little kids with the

games and handing them prizes was the most fun. With enough luck you were able to work at the

dunk tank and let people pitch balls at a target to drop you in the cool water. After your shift you

were able to hang around and play the games for yourself. If you weren't in the mood there was

also food, music, and dancing. The festival was just fun and a really happy environment. All in all, it

was a great event and I will be attending next year if given the opportunity.

CARLOS SOLANO BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

The Summer Festival took place last Sunday at St. Ignatius Church. It was a fun event and I got the

chance to meet the Eagle Rock Key Club vice president. At the event our task was to either patrol

the festival, check-in volunteers, or manage the games. I got to both check-in volunteers and

manage games. As usual it was great to serve other people and put smiles on their faces. At the

event there was a lot of diversity in cultures. There was a variety of foods such as Mexican and

Filipino foods. It was a hot day but Mr. Keifer provided us with refreshments and tickets for food,

which was real kind of him. Overall the event was a success; we did our job and served to put smiles

on people’s faces.

GABRIEL TATLONGHARI BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

My experience at the Summer Festival at St. Ignatius Church was very exciting and fun. I had a great

time helping out many of the kids playing at the game booth. Not only do you have the opportunity

to help out the adults, but you also get the chance to meet new friends. I would definitely

recommend going to the events and helping out, it's a fun experience and you won't regret it. Don't

be scared to go to events. Sure, it will be awkward your first time but once you start being active

and social, you will meet new friends and you would start to enjoy every single moment.
