Page 1 of 13 OfficeSync Installation Guide OfficeSync consists of three separate programs: OfficeManager, JobMonitor, and FieldConnect. OfficeManager and JobMonitor are to be installed onto your PC, while FieldConnect is to be installed onto your Windows CE or Pocket PC data collector. If you are using Windows XP, 2000 or NT please ensure that you have Administrator rights in order to install the software. If you do not, please contact your Network Administrator for help. The following screenshots are from Windows XP, other computers running either Windows XP or another Windows operating system may vary. Installing OfficeManager onto your Desktop PC Insert the OfficeSync installation disc into your CD drive. The following screen should appear automatically. If it does not, double click on your My Computer icon, and then on your CD drive. Click the Installbutton, then click Install Office Manager. Install Microsoft Data Access Components (If Necessary) The installation will check for a required component, and install it if necessary. If your computer already has this component, then it will skip this step, and check for the next required component. If your computer does not yet have this component, you will see the following message: Click OK.

OfficeSync Installation Guide OfficeSync consists of three separate programs: OfficeManager, JobMonitor, and FieldConnect. Installing OfficeManager onto your Desktop PC Insert the OfficeSync installation disc into your CD drive. The following screen should appear automatically. If it does not, double click on your My Computer icon, and then on your CD drive. Click the “Install” button, then click “Install Office Manager”.

Install Microsoft Data Access Components (If Necessary) The installation will check for a required component, and install it if necessary. If your computer already has this component, then it will skip this step, and check for the next required component. If your computer does not yet have this component, you will see the following message:

Select “I accept all of the terms of the proceeding license agreement” then click “Next”.

Click “Finish” then wait while MDAC is installed. This may take several minutes.

Select “Let setup restart the system now” then click “Finish”. Your computer will then be rebooted. When it finishes booting back up, if the Installation program does not automatically resume, just open and close your CD drive to resume the installation by clicking Install, then Install OfficeManager.

Install Microsoft .NET Framework (If Necessary) The installation will check for another required component, and install it if necessary. If your computer already has this component, then it will skip this step, and proceed to installing the OfficeManager program. If your computer does not yet have this component, you will see the following message:

Click “Yes” then wait while the .NET Framework is installed. This may take several minutes.

Click “Restart”. Your computer will then be rebooted. When it finishes booting back up, if the Installation program does not automatically resume, just open and close your CD drive to resume the installation by clicking Install, then Install OfficeManager.

Install OfficeManager Once the installation has detected or installed the two required Microsoft components, it is now ready to install the OfficeManager program.

Click “Next”.

You will then be returned to the main installation screen, where you can continue to install JobMonitor or FieldConnect if desired.

Installing Job Monitor onto your Desktop or Laptop PC Insert the OfficeSync installation disc into your CD drive. The following screen should appear automatically. If it does not, double click on your My Computer icon, and then on your CD drive. Click the “Install” button, then click “Install Job Monitor”.

Install Microsoft Data Access Components (If Necessary) The installation will check for a required component, and install it if necessary. If your computer already has this component, then it will skip this step. Please refer to this section in “Installing OfficeManager” for detailed instructions.

Install Microsoft .NET Framework (If Necessary) The installation will check for another required component, and install it if necessary. If your computer already has this component, then it will skip this step. Please refer to this section in “Installing OfficeManager” for detailed instructions.

Install JobMonitor Once the installation has detected or installed the two required Microsoft components, it is now ready to install the JobMonitor program.

Click “Finish” You will then be returned to the main installation screen, where you can continue to install FieldConnect if desired.

Installing FieldConnect onto your Data Collector In order to install FieldConnect onto your data collector, you must first establish an ActiveSync (not related to OfficeSync) connection between your computer and the data collector. If you do not have already have ActiveSync, then you can download it from www.microsoft.com

Download and Install ActiveSync (If Necessary) Go to Microsoft’s webpage, www.microsoft.com. Because their webpage may change, these instructions will be quite general. Click the “Windows Mobile” link on the left-hand side of the page, and then click the “Download ActiveSync” link on the next page. Click the “Worldwide English” link to select the English version of ActiveSync. Scroll down towards the bottom of the page, and click the “setup.exe” link to begin the download. When you are asked to either Run or Save the file, just click “Run”, then follow the instructions on your screen. This may take several minutes.

Connect your Data Collector to ActiveSync Follow your manufacturer’s instructions for connecting to ActiveSync. Some devices will connect automatically, while others require you to double-click a “PC Link” icon on the device. If this is the first time connecting to ActiveSync, you will be prompted to setup a partnership. You can do this if you desire, or simply connect in Guest mode to avoid creating a partnership. Once ActiveSync has connected, your ActiveSync icon (in your System Tray at the bottom-right corner of your screen) should turn green, and you are ready to install FieldConnect. If the ActiveSync icon is still grey, then the device has not been connected and you are not yet ready to continue until it is connected.

Install FieldConnect (Step 1, on the Desktop Computer) Insert the OfficeSync installation disc into your CD drive. The following screen should appear automatically. If it does not, double click on your My Computer icon, and then on your CD drive. Click the “Install” button, then click on the type of data collector you are installing to. If your data collector is not listed as a choice, then please phone MicroSurvey Technical Support at 1-800-668-3312 for additional help.

Ensure that ActiveSync is still connected then click “Next”. Tip: Make sure that your device is plugged into its battery charger. This will prevent the device from automatically powering down after a few minutes of inactivity. If you do not have the charger available, just tap on the screen every minute or two to keep it from turning off.

Click “Yes” if you are installing onto any of the following devices (Default Directory shown below) MicroSurvey Tracker, MicroSurvey Tracker Xtreme, Carlson Explorer, XYZWorks Fieldbook,

Click “Finish”

Install FieldConnect (Step 1, on the Data Collector) Depending on your data collector, you may see various screens appear as shown below. If you do not see any prompts on the data collector, you can move on to the next section. You may be asked for an installation location for where to install any of the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework, the Microsoft SQL Client, and/or MicroSurvey FieldConnect applications.

Click “OK” (do not change the installation locations) On some data collectors, you may be warned about an incompatible operating system version, and asked if you wish to continue.

Click “Yes”, the program will run properly on the device. If you do not see any prompts on the data collector, it means that it has finished doing everything it needs to do and you are now able to run FieldConnect. Note: The first time you run FieldConnect, you may be prompted to install the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework and/or the Microsoft SQL Client. Just follow the on-screen instructions (see below for details) to install these drivers.

Running FieldConnect for the First Time on your Data Collector Note: If you are using a device running Windows Mobile 5.0, an additional setup step is required to create a dialup networking connection to the internet before running FieldConnect. Please refer to our document titled NewRangerWithFieldKit.pdf for more information before proceeding. When FieldConnect is installed, a FieldConnect icon is created in the Start > Programs menu.

On PocketPC or Windows Mobile devices, tap on Start > Programs then tap on FieldConnect. On WindowsCE devices, tap on Start > Programs > FieldConnect. Note: If your FieldConnect icons ever disappear after losing battery power or doing a hard reset, then you can use either My Computer on Windows CE devices, or the File Explorer in PocketPC and Windows Mobile devices to browse into the MicroSurvey FieldConnect folder and run the FieldConnect program. When this is done, any missing icons will be recreated. You may be prompted to install the Microsoft .NET Compact Framework.

Note: If prompted for an installation location, choose the Windows directory and then tap “OK”. Note: If you are warned about an incompatible operating system, just tap “OK” and continue on. When the installation screens disappear, start FieldConnect again.

You may be prompted to install the Microsoft SQL Client drivers.

Note: If prompted for an installation location, choose the Windows directory and then tap “OK”. Note: If you are warned about an incompatible operating system, just tap “OK” and continue on. When the installation screens disappear, start FieldConnect again. When FieldConnect is started, you will see the login screen.

Enter you Account Number then tap “OK”.

Select your User ID and enter your Password, then tap “Login”.

Installing FieldConnect on Additional Data Collectors If you connect another data collector to install FieldConnect onto, when you run the installation program for FieldConnect you may see the following Modify/Repair/Remove screen:

Pick the “Remove” option then click “Next”

Click “Yes”

Click “Cancel”

Click “Finish” Then start the FieldConnect installation again and repeat the installation instructions shown earlier in this document.
