CONNECT-4-SUCCESS Our program officially kicks off on January 4th with students arriving at 6 companies. There have been many months of meetings with the Ritenour School District and companies that express an interest in the program. We thank all the companies that allowed us to present the program to them and while they may not be part of the initial group, hopefully they will participate in the future. Shortly, we plan to expand the number of companies participating for the fall semester. We will be looking for companies in mid-town and the Westport area. Non-EBMI companies will be invited to participate. But that is down the road. On December 15th, we start the process of connecting companies with students by conducting interviews to select a student for the job positions available. In talking with Ritenour School District officials, the students are very excited about this opportunity. We have asked the company mentors to make this a learning experience for each student. So long to 2017…. The first part of the year our focus was on the Electrical Expo and providing opportunities to connect attendees with our exhibitor personnel. We were very pleased to sell all the available booth spaces at the St. Charles Convention Center. We added a mobile app for the show and wi-fi throughout the convention center. Seminars were once again very well attended. The second half of the year we had a number of events, golf outings, Christmas Mixer, Illinois Emerging Energy Topics, Electrical Safety Workshop as well as our classes and seminars. The 21st Century committee is re-vitalized with the Escape Room as the first of many events for the young professionals in the industry. Overall, 2017 was a good year for the EBMI and hopefully continues into 2018.

IN MEMORIAM

The Electrical Board officers and staff express our sincere condolences to Matt Gagnepain of Metro Electric Supply whose father Charlie passed away on November 28th. Charlie is also the uncle of Bill Frisella of Metro Electric Supply; and to Lyndy Kuhlman of St. Louis Lighting Group whose father Bill Raines, retired Electrical Inspector for St. Louis County and EBMI member passed away on December 2nd.

Over 600 people attended this year’s Mixer which was an increase in attendance over last year. Through the generous donations of the companies listed, we handed out 98 attendance prizes. The donations by our members and guests to the Salvation Army totaled $2,017.38. Yes, every penny helps. This was also an increase in the total collected last year.

TWO HANDS – TWO CANS Our members and guests donated 2,393 cans to the FEED MY PEEPS organization, of which 1,700 cans was donated by Holt Electrical Supplies. Last year, 546 cans were donated. We thank everyone who donated and we have received emails from representatives of both organizations thanking you for the donations.

10117 - FIELD TECH / UNDERGROUND UTILITIES CREW MEMBER Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Hand dig splice pits of 4x4x4 average size using hand

tools, e.g. flat shovel, etc.

• Use mini excavator or trenching machine, as needed

• Work in residential and commercial areas

• Take photos of locate marks, open pit, restored area, etc.

• Backfill, seed and straw

• Properly perform lane closures with flaggers, etc.

• Be compliant with safety procedures

• Work at a variety of site locations in close clustered areas

on a daily basis

Basic Qualifications:

• Work outdoors in all climates

• Valid driver's license or ID card and CDL optional

• Ability to pass background check and drug screening

• Ability to perform physical movements such as bending,

• Ability to do landscape restoration

Legislation Reflects Consumers’ Call for Rate Caps, Modernizing Missouri’s

Energy Grid From Ameren Missouri’s PowerForward

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – On December 1, State Sen. Ed Emery (R-31, Lamar) pre-filed energy legislation for the upcoming 2018 Missouri legislative session. The bill proposes limiting the average annual electric rate increase at 3%. The legislation is, in part, a response to calls from consumer groups, including the Missouri Retailers Association, Missouri Grocers Association and the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This legislation supports bending the cost curve downward for electricity, which saves consumers money on their energy bills. And, at the same time it unlocks more than $1billion in grid improvements, attracting business to the state and creating jobs.

Sen. Emery and Rep. T.J. Berry (R-38, Kearney), who will file similar legislation in the House, said they have been working with various stakeholders this year to come up with a potential compromise to reform Missouri’s 100-year-old energy regulations. The lawmakers believe there is a growing consensus that the status quo is hurting Missouri’s economy and slowing the modernization our state's energy grid.

Also today, the Missouri Chamber of Commerce released its 2018 legislative agenda which was unanimously approved by its Board of Directors, including support for energy reform.

“The Missouri Chamber appreciates this movement towards compromise in solving Missouri’s energy challenges,” said Dan Mehan, Missouri Chamber of Commerce CEO. “The Chamber recognizes the advantage of affordable and reliable energy in retaining and attracting businesses to our state. The Missouri Chamber will support efforts and work with business leaders, utility providers, and community leaders to drive a collaborative long-term solution to address Missouri’s aging infrastructure while ensuring continued reliable energy at predictable and competitive rates for customers.”

“When it comes to Missouri energy policy, the status quo just isn’t working for Missouri families and businesses for two primary reasons,” said Sen. Emery. “Energy prices are going up faster in Missouri than most states, while at the same time we aren’t making significant enough progress in modernizing our grid. This legislation aims to make future energy costs more stable and predictable and supports a modern, smart and secure energy grid to better serve Missourians. “There is a great need to pass legislation this year, said Rep. T.J. Berry. Low-energy prices have traditionally been an

economic advantage in Missouri. Yet inaction by Missouri lawmakers has caused this advantage to slowly disappear. Action now means we keep our low-cost energy advantage which benefits our constituents and Missouri businesses. This legislation supports consumers’ call for stable and predictable prices, unlocks additional grid improvements, and keeps or enhances current regulatory oversight of utilities.”

To bend the cost curve downward for Missourians, the legislation calls for rate caps on electric energy costs in the range of 3%. These caps if passed into law would be enforced by the Missouri Public Service Commission (PSC) and may represent some of the most consumer-friendly utility rate caps in the country. If regulators approve a rate increase for an investor-owned electric utility above the 3% threshold, the utility would be subject to a significant penalty and potential loss of these new regulatory ratemaking tools.

For example, if a utility filed a regulatory rate review in consecutive years, energy rates would be limited to the 3% cap. If there are two years between rate review filings, rate increases would be limited to no more than approximately 6% (3% per year for two years). Today there are no rate caps limiting increases. Also, the legislation keeps the PSC’s authority and the utilities’ burden of proof before the commission unchanged.

We're pleased that Senator Emery is continuing to work with all parties, including consumer groups, toward a solution, said Warren Wood, vice president, External Affairs and Communications, Ameren Missouri. Ameren Missouri has been saying for quite some time that we need to make Missouri's energy grid smarter and more secure in a way that's good for customers. We're optimistic that progress may finally be made, and if we can make a form of rate cap legislation work, we will. We will keep you informed about this important bill as it moves through the legislative process. The 2018 Missouri Legislative Session beings at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 3.
