From Your Director of Missions

I would like to express my thanks to Bro. Ron Robinson for speaking atour Semi-annual meeting. I think that he did a good job conveying theimportance that God places upon His creation. Kids are importantbecause God made them. He makes them different sizes, differentcolors, and with different personalities. But, God is the maker. Societytoday, and some churches, feel that children are a burden, not worth theeffort, and get in our way. We cannot blame the child for their situation. It is our responsibility to reach out and show them what love is,especially those who do not experience love from their family. Our vision statement for this year is that we "Develop A HEART ForMinistry to Children". Your church can do this through Vacation BibleSchool by developing relationships with children in your community.Your church can help to provide food to children that are hungry. Yes,dad and mom may waste their resources, but what choice does the childhave in those decisions? Your church can send children to ourAssociational Children's Camp in July. There they will have a week ofgood food, recreational opportunities, and experience the Love of Jesusthrough Bible Study and our caregivers. We cannot save all of the children in the Bootheel, but we can try! If wedon't try, we will loose all of them both now and for eternity. They willmiss Heaven and spend eternity in Hell because we ignored them.Look around and ask, "What would Jesus ask me to do?". He told Hisdisciples to bring the little children to Him. Is He telling us to do thesame thing today?Missions can be done overseas where there is great need. Missions canbe done in other states where 90% of the population is lost. Missionscan be done in more attractive resort and vacation areas where there aregreat numbers of lost people. But, missions can also be done in ourbackyard. What is the benefit of missions if we reach the whole worldbut not the child that lives down the street? What is the benefit ofworldwide missions if the children in our community turn to alcohol, drugs, sex, and crime instead of Jesus?Let us not be guilty of being the Priest and Levi in the story of the GoodSamaritan. We need to develop the concern and desire that Jesus hadfor the people that He came in contact with on a daily basis. He wasfacing the reality of death on the cross. He knew that His disciples wouldbe scattered. He knew that the majority of people would reject Him andHis message. Yet, He stopped what He was doing to meet the needs ofthe person in front of Him, even the children. So, if you don't have a "Heart for Ministry to Children", do you want one? There are only two possible answers -- YES or NO. What is youranswer?

Praise the Lord it's summer time!! Although, as I am writing this report, it's64 degrees outside and we just had "Blackberry Winter" as some of the

"old timers" like to refer to this May cold snap. After the coldof this winter, I am going to make an effort to be thankful forsummer time and all the things that come with the warmerweather including 90+ degree days, Vacation Bible School,Xtreme Summer Conference, mission trips, and ChurchCamp. Please make an effort to pray for all the summer time

activities that our children and other Church groups are going to beparticipating in this summer. If you are not helping out with any of theseprograms, I ask you to consider volunteering your time. I can't imagine amore rewarding mission than participating in teaching our children to take astand for Christ. Our children are such a key part of the future of ourChurches. It's so important that we invest time and prayer in the salvationof our childrenSEMO Children's Camp has been scheduled for July 21st to 25th atSouth Missouri Baptist Assembly, Van Buren.
