Liturgy is the first school of the Church. We learn by praying; we learn by doing. In our faithfully praying the Church’s Liturgy Sunday after Sunday, we strengthen our belief. In our faithful praying week by week, we strengthen the gift of faith we have from God and deepen the relationship we have with God in Christ. This short list offers suggestions for ongoing Faith Formation that is so essential to the Christian life. Within, individuals and small and large groups may find a follow-up for “Why Catholic?” or a next step for Whole Community Catechesis / Generations of Faith, Small Christian Communities, the New Evangelization of the Catholic Church, and other faith sharing groups as we embark on the Year of Faith.

Link: http://www.wlp.jspaluch.com/3334.htm Inspired by the principle that one learns how to be a Christian by doing what Christians do, Apprenticed to Christ provides catechists with ideas and resources for the “apprenticeship” of catechumens, candidates, and others participating in parish religious formation. Brief introduction makes the case for apprenticeship and catechesis for conversion. Page 8 provides “A Catechetical Method: Mystagogical Catechesis in the Session for Christian Formation” that is worth the price of the book.

This hands-on method, the Church's preferred approach for the catechumenate, is presented in a systematic, easy-to-use format based on the Liturgy of the Word for Sunday Mass, with activities suggested for each Sunday of the three-year cycle of Lectionary for Mass readings.

Other: connections to the Sunday readings; recommended links with the teaching of the Catholic Church; apprenticeship activity; short list of catechetical resources.

The Second Vatican Council envisioned a Church whose people could understand and participate fully in the liturgy. The author gives us a tool for catechizing our communities.

This concise, lively book gives information: answers questions that parish councils, liturgy boards, liturgical ministers, adult formation groups and individuals in the assembly have about what the official rites call for and how we can celebrate them well. It provides an opportunity for group reflection and discussion – primary activities in adult formation. It will enable parishioners to integrate new learning with faith insights and thus become more aware and discerning participants in the Mass.

The Second Vatican Council envisioned a liturgical assembly that could understand and participate fully in the liturgy. Lawrence Mick offers insights and suggestions for helping our communities understand the work they are called to do when celebrating the sacraments.

Once leaders are prepared, the book can then be used for catechizing the whole assembly, parish councils, liturgy boards, liturgical ministers, adult formation groups, and individuals.

This is an easy read and very understandable. Small group discussions will encourage the individual to go back and think about the Sacraments received and the impact they have had on life. Questions could also be used for personal journaling.
