StoreFront Remote Are you constantly on-the-go and need simple and efficient tools for “anytime, anyplace” monitoring of your HP 3PAR, StoreOnce and StoreVirtual systems? With HPE StoreFront Remote, you can now securely monitor your HPE Storage arrays 24×7 from any location. StoreFront Remote (SFRM) is a Web portal that offers system health and other analytics in the cloud for your HPE 3PAR StoreServ and HPE StoreOnce devices, in a secure and seamless manner. SFRM also enables proactive services to be delivered to customers. Customers can control the visibility of their devices in SFRM with an opt-in registration mechanism, and through administration privileges. The SFRM service is built on HPE’s Secure Service Architecture (SSA) which provides a secure communication path to send diagnostic and performance telemetry data from customers’ storage devices to HPE 3PAR Central Platform, which sits in a secure data center behind an HPE firewall. From presenting useful information such as capacity forecasts to storage efficiency ratios, the StoreFront Remote user interface provides valuable insights and offers user a simple dashboard similar to HPE 3PAR StoreServ Management Console (SSMC) and HPE OneView interfaces. You even have the ability to get customized reports in PDF format. SFR: Dashboard

SFRM requires two things—an active connection from a storage device to HPE 3PAR Central and customers’ approval to make the data available in the cloud through an explicit registration step. The data that is thus sent to Hewlett Packard Enterprise, hereby referred to as the “call home” telemetry data set, is always securely transmitted using the HTTPS protocol and this data forms the basis of the analytics and recommendations in SFRM. It’s important to note that by “telemetry data”, we refer only to the “system-support data” from the storage devices and not the actual “customer data” from the customers’ storage devices. The telemetry data sent to Hewlett Packard Enterprise is mandatory to facilitate remote technical support and other Proactive Services but it’s not mandatory for customers to sign up for SFRM, which is an opt-in based service. End-user data from a customers’ storage devices is never collected or transmitted outside their data center, and additional care is taken in SFRM to protect all personally identifiable information (PII) as well. How to get access:

1. Go to https://www.storefrontremote.com

2. Create an HPE Passport Account if you don’t have one already

3. Register your devices and create ‘System Groups’

4. Generate a token and paste it in a specified field in 3PAR Management Console

(SSMC/IMC) / StoreOnce Management Console or use a 3PAR CLI Command

5. Wait for 24-48 hours for the device to show up on the SF Remote portal

Specific for HPE Channel Partners: 1. Ensure your passport ID is setup as a ‘Partner’

2. Get your customers to add their systems in SF Remote and provide consent

3. Login to www.storefrontremote.com and get access to a system by providing the

Serial Number and Sales Order ID

For more information go to www.storefrontremote.com and check out the SFRM whitepaper.

HPE Servers What is the maximum USB ports available in DL380 Gen 9? The DL380 Gen9 can have up to 7 USB ports (5 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0). This is possible when adding the Universal Media Bay, which adds the 2 USB 2.0, otherwise the maximum is 5 ports. Is it possible to get a health and inventory report by connecting to iLO with an smartphone via NFC to the system? No, HPE ProLiant servers Gen9 or previous Generations do not come with NFC chips.

With an Android smartphone the customer can use the HPE iLO mobile app for Android (or

for IOS) to access to that information. When using the VC FlexFabric 20/40 F8. What are the rules concerning 10, 20, 40Gbit connections? Are there limits? Can you activate all the maximum ports and capacity? The VC has a non-blocking architecture, meaning that all ports can provide their maximum bandwidth at the same time. The line rate (full duplex) of these module is 1.2Tb. Can HPE Oneview used to access to the remote consoles of servers managed that have an iLO Advanced license enabled? Is a OneView license required for it? Yes, you can refer to the HP OneView 2.0 Support Matrix to see which server models can be managed/monitored by HPE OneView and support launching the iLO remote console. An HPE OneView Advanced, needed for management, is not required for this feature since monitored devices also support that functionality, however HPE OneView is always recommended since it adds many other features. iLO advanced must be enabled, either with an iLO advanced license or with an HPE OneView advanced with iLO advanced license since the remote console after OS requires it. Can nodes in the Apollo 2000 enclosure removed without switching off the whole enclosure? Yes. The Apollo 2000 nodes are independent servers that shared some resources, like the power supplies of the fans. Therefore, the nodes can be shut down and remover without shutting down the other nodes. Refer to the HPE Apollo 2000 System Maintenance and Service Guide to procced with this process.

HPE Storage With 3PAR Persistent Ports configured on a 3PAR StoreServ20000 series array, in the event of a port failover, is the active port able to support an increased number of FC initiators over the hard limit of 256 per port? Yes, when 3PAR Persistent Ports are configured, in the event of a port failover, the active port will be able to support an increased number of initiators above its hard limit of 256 FC initiators per port until the connectivity with the failed port will be restored. However, in such scenarios it is generally recommended to configure a lower number than 256 FC initiators per port to avoid potential performance bottlenecks.

Is HPE 3PAR Express Writes supported on 3PAR StoreServ 8000 and 20000 series host ports? HPE 3PAR Express Writes represent a series of HP 3PAR OS protocol optimizations that optimize SCSI transactions, improving array CPU utilization and host-write latency. Currently HPE 3PAR Express Writes is not supported on 16Gb targets (all systems, including 3PAR StoreServ 7000c and 10000 series). In a XP7 3 Data Centers High-Availability solution, can the Continuous Access Journal target on the 3rd site be a P9500? No, all storage systems in an HA+Cnt Ac-J configuration must be XP7 with DKCMAIN firmware version 80-02-4-xx/xx or later. You cannot combine HA and Cnt Ac-J using other storage system models. Not all volume types can be used for HA Operations , to mention some , CA Synchronous , Auto LUN , DKA Encryption volumes ; for a detailed list of supported volumes for HA configurations please refer to page 44-45 of the XP7 High Availability User Guide.

On the licensing point of view , the XP7 array acting as a Continuous Access Journal target on the 3rd site needs to be licensed for Continuous Access Journal only by the CA Suite licenses as it is not participating in the HA setup.

As various OS as VMware 5.0 – 5.1, have reached or will reach their End-of-Support date from their respective vendors soon, will HPE keep supporting them in combination with 3PAR Arrays? 3PAR will continue to support interoperability with the OS versions below under the EXTENDED support policy: – IBM AIX 6.1 TL7 and 7.1 TL2 – SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP4 and 11 SP2 – HP-UX 11i v2 – VMware ESXi 5.0 and 5.1 For further interoperability details and a detailed explanation of what the Extended Support Policy implies, please refer to SPOCK.

Is it possible to copy data synchronously between two StoreVirtual 3200 systems? What license is needed? No, currently, data between two StoreVirtual 3200 systems can only be replicated asynchronously. To use Remote Copy the HPE StoreVirtual 3200 Advanced Data Services Suite LTU N9Y66A is required for both systems. I heard the MSA 2024 can only create snapshots every 30 minutes as a minimum, can you please confirm? With linear storage, there is a 30-minute minimum interval between remote snaps, correct. With virtual storage there is 60-minute minimum interval. That is a limitation given by the Remote Snap software. More information in the HPE MSA Remote Snap Software Technical White Paper In non-Remote Snap configurations you can create a snapshot every minute if you wish to do so (scheduled). If you manage to manually create more than one snapshot under a minute then even more is possible. For more information please see the HPE MSA SMU Guide

Are transceivers included with the new StoreVirtual 3200 4-port 16Gb FC system N9X24A? No, the SFPs need to be ordered separately. HPE StoreVirtual 3000 16Gb 2-pack Short Wave Fibre Channel SFP+ Transceiver is available under N9X02A. I’m trying to install StoreVirtual VSA using the HP StoreVirtual VSA for VMware vSphere installer which will not display a distributed virtual switch as an option. How can I proceed? The HP StoreVirtual VSA for VMware vSphere Installer does not support distributed switches and will not display a distributed switch as an option. To resolve this issue, set up a standard switch before deploying a StoreVirtual VSA for vSphere. Select the standard switch while deploying the StoreVirtual VSA for vSphere installer. See HP LeftHand OS Version 12.5 Release Notes

Is there any controller performance or cache capacity difference between MSA 2040 and MSA 2042? No, there are no hardware differences between the two arrays. The difference between MSA 2040 and 2042 is in that the MSA 2042 comes with two 400GB SSDs included and the Advanced Data Services Suite (combining Remote Snap license, 512 snapshot license and Performance Tiering license) is also included. Can the 1Gb iSCSI ports of the SV3200 Fibre Channel storage array controllers be used for host I/O? No, these ports can only be used for Remote Copy and/or management traffic. This is the same for the 10Gb iSCSI controllers. It is written that the minimum number of drives supported within the SV3200 is four. How are these drives assigned to the array? Two drives will be configured as RAID 1 (displayed as RAID10) and assigned to a single controller. The SV3200 has a single ‘Pool’ which is comprised of capacity from both controllers. As per all StoreVirtual configurations, each participating ‘Node’ which in SV3200 terminology is a ‘Controller’, must have an equal configuration; therefore two per controller.
