Majella Sparkling Shiraz

Recognised by Langtons with not one but two listings, Majella is not only one of the finest properties in Australia, but also one that offers outstanding value for money. Using only the best Shiraz, bottle fermentation and a little vintage ‘port’, Majella’s version is, we hear, the perfect drop with a breakfast fry up.

Pierre Mignon Grande Réserve Premier Cru

At the heart of Champagne, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are grown on diverse terroirs: Le Breuil, Dormans (Vallée de la Marne), Cuis (Côte des Blancs), Monthelon (Région d’Épernay) for exceptional Champagne. After the careful blending process, all of the wines

are aged for at least 3 years before release to ensure unwavering quality.

Domaine des Baumard Cremant de Loire, Carte Turquiose

Florent Baumard uses his magic touch to create his Cremant de Loire blend of Cabernet Franc, Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay. Each is fermented seperately and the wine is aged on its lees for over a year.

Modella Prosecco Spumante DOC

The beautiful Modella Prosecco is now also available in 150cl. Grapes hail from fantastic sites that have perfect exposure to the sun.

Picking takes place early in the morning to preserve the delicate, aromatic quality of the grapes.

Argentina

Santuario, Mendoza cases 56+ 30-55 10-29Celebrating the current appetite for everything Argentina, Santuario blends have the passion, strength and edge we recognise from Argentinian culture. Don’t be fooled by the Chenin Torrontes' sweet flowery aromas on the nose, this is a dry wine which is aromatic, fresh and fruity. The Malbec Shiraz has beautiful ripe fruit from the Malbec which combined with the spicy character of Shiraz on the palate creates a soft easy drinking red with sweet cherry and autumn berry fruits and a rounded structure. Both are eye catching and immensely enjoyable

Familia ZuccardiFamilia Zuccardi combines forward thinking with a deeply rooted wine culture to craft wines of unique quality and identity. At the heart of this family winery is the drive to continually improve and with Sebastian Zuccardi heading up their 'Innovation and Experimentation' program, they are literally taking quality to new heights. After many months of building and many years of planning the breathtaking new winery, in Altamira in the Uco Valley, is all but complete. At 1100 metres above sea level with the Andes as it's stunning backdrop, a new chapter in the history of Familia Zuccardi is beginning. This is one of the most exciting producers to work with. Their understanding of the soils and terroirs of the Uco Valley is reflected in their beautifully expressive wines.

Viña CobosIn 1989, Californian trail-blazer Paul Hobbs embraced Argentinian terroir and culture and after meeting Andrea Marchiori and Luis Barraud, they founded Viña Cobos in 1997. Paul Hobbs and his team demonstrates not only what Malbec, Cabernet and Chardonnay are capable of but also demonstrates the strengths and characteristics of individual sites within Lujan de Cuyo and the Uco Valley. Efforts are being rewarded including a trophy in 2014 for their Bramare Lujan de Cuyo Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 and a Gold Medal for their Bramare Valle de Uco Malbec 2011 at the Argentina Wine Awards. Viña Cobos is truly a world class producer.

One Chain Vineyards, South Eastern AustraliaOne Chain Vineyards is one of the most successful ranges produced by Alliance Wine Australia. With a refreshed, stylish new look and crafted in a thoroughly modern fashion, One Chain Vineyards impresses on quality and delivers on value, raising the bar on the Australian classics.

The Imperial Measurement of One Chain, or 22 yards, which is the length of a cricket pitch, is a nod to sportsmanship of the past but you don’t need to be a connoisseur of the great game to be bowled over by the restrained, elegant style of the Chardonnay and the bright red fruit and subtle oak of the Shiraz Cabernet.

The Character Series, South AustraliaOur Character Series is a highly distinctive collection of expressive and authentic wines from the premium regions of South Australia such as McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, Eden Valley, Langhorne Creek and the Limestone Coast. These hugely characterful wines from the state that rightly calls itself 'The Wine State' express varietal characteristics and a true sense of place. Based on illustrations by 19th Century French cartoonist J J Grandville, the humorous packaging offers a motley crew of characters from which to choose depending, perhaps, on whose character you most identify with!

Thistledown, South AustraliaThe thistle is an apt image for a producer that, for all its rugged exterior, makes wines that possess a delicacy, subtlety and beauty that constantly surprise. At home in the Adelaide Hills, Thistledown handcrafts small parcels of wine from vineyards chosen for their soul as well as soil. Thistledown wines look to reflect the terroir by picking for optimal balance rather than power and by winemaking that is, wherever possible, hands off.

Majella, CoonawarraBrian 'Prof' Lynn, the effusive, yet self-deprecating voice of Majella Estate would never brag about his accolades but it's clear he has a lot to be proud of. With some fantastic grapes, one of Australia's best winemakers and a state of the art winery, Majella craft some of the finest wines in the country on one of the most revered 'strips of dirt' in the wine world. Bruce Gregory, who made the very first wine for Majella and has made each one ever since, is the inspiration behind one of Australia's finest wines, The Malleea. This flagship wine is a masterpiece which, along with the Majella Cabernet Sauvignon, has entered Langton's Classification of Australia's Best Wines.

thousand candles, Yarra Valley cases 56+ 30-55 10-29Much revered Pinot specialist William Downie is the man behind the iconic thousand candles, a vineyard in the Southern Yarra Valley. Made from selected plots within the well-known Killara Park Estate, thousand candles is a uniquely Australian wine that speaks of the farm: the seasons that it has passed through and the care and detail of the vintage that the team has tried to capture. The idea is to capture in the bottle the essence of place and season, rather than be guided by or try to emulate an established style. thousand candles aims to express the character of one vintage on one farm and is a true exploration of an Australian notion of terroir. Each vintage blend varies to celebrate the best of the farm and the terroir in that year, reflecting the changeability of climate and weather.

Domaine A, TasmaniaCult winemaker Peter Althaus makes a wine described by James Halliday as 'the finest wooded Sauvignon Blanc in the world', Anthony Foster MW insists his wines 'must be rated along with the very best in the world' and Matthew Jukes says he has 'never been so gob-smacked with a range of wines' in his life. On an island mainly dominated by Pinot, Peter bucks the trend producing what Max Allen believes to be Australia's top Cabernet from the Coal River region in Southern Tasmania. Excelling where others have failed, with meticulous attention to detail in the vineyard, this doyen of Cabernet produces tiny allocations of wines which are truly world class.

Wachau initiated a quality assurance concept in prime vineyard “Kellerberg” several years ago, developing a reward system encouraging co-op members to use holistic and sustainable methods to ensure fruit and thus wine quality.

Wachau pay premium prices for fruit from participating grape growers motivating enthusiasm and community wealth.

As in much of Europe, the 2014 vintage in Wachau was the most challenging vintage in living memory. The poor weather had a devastating effect on fruit quality and yields and only the most rigorous selection of grapes enabled Domäne Wachau to maintain the quality for which they are renowned. Unfortunately 40% less production than last year has inevitably had an effect on pricing.

Domäne Wachau’s head winemaker Heinz Frischengruber

commented “There will be no high-alcohol powerhouses in the

2014 vintage, but due to the extremely late harvest astounding

Austria

Domäne Wachau, Wachau cases 56+ 30-55 10-29

Domäne Wachau is that rarest of things, a producer of significant volume of wine who also manages to produce some of Austria's finest wines. Situated in the stunning Wachau valley, through which flows the Danube river, Wachau is the coolest vine growing region of Austria and the combination of warm days, cool nights and ancient, rocky soils create wines of precision, minerality and fantastic purity of fruit. While the region is undoubtedly endowed with significant natural advantages to produce fantastic wines, much of it's recent success - including winning 4 trophies at the IWC - must be attributed to the dynamic young team at the winery headed by Roman Horvath MW and the winemaker Heinz Frischengruber. The team have also made a vital contribution to the preservation of this UNESCO world heritage site. The dramatic, steep, terraced vineyards make it a challenging place to grow vines and without their efforts, many of the vine growers would have abandoned the vineyards, losing in the process centuries of tradition as well as many of Austria's top viticultural sites.

bulgarian producers1 Enira – Bessa Valley

Bulgarian wine-making has come a long way from being a reliable source of cheap and cheerful international varieties in the 70s and 80s and the dark days of post Communism.

Foreign investment and expertise have

successfully revived the three millennia

wine making history and started to yield

some top quality wines that, tasted blind,

few would imagine are Bulgarian.

A particular hotspot is the Thracian

lowlands in Southern Bulgaria where the

Bessa Valley Winery is based.

The Bulgarian wine industry, not unlike the majority of Eastern European, suffered during the rise and fall of Communism: Gorbachachev’s desire to curb alcoholism in the USSR resulted in vines being uprooted throughout the country, and it was Stefan von Neipperg, of Château Canon La Gaffelier fame, who realised the massive potential of the Bessa Valley and led the way for the Bulgarian Wine renaissance. His flagship wine ‘Enira’, named after a Thracian Princess, is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah made in an opulent style, while the Reserve with its red berry fruits and fresh earthiness, reminiscent of St-Emilion, will appeal to Bordeaux enthusiasts. Far removed from the mass produced table wine of the past, the wines from Enira are without a doubt two of Bulgaria’s finest: Hugh Johnson citing them as the ‘only quality wine available in the UK.’

After the rather forgettable 2013 vintage, characterised by cold and wet conditions, the 2014 vintage has proved to be the perfect antidote. Despite a rather cool, sunless August, the old adage that the only thing that matters is the first three weeks and the last three weeks, proved true. Good weather at flowering and then during September meant that growers picked at their leisure, producing an array of startlingly good wines.

The legendary Florent Baumard still heads

up our range from the Loire and if your

customers deserve a treat then you ought

to be offering one of his world famous

‘Savennières’ or for a sweet delight his

‘Côteaux du Layon’. This year we have also

listed two back vintages of Clos du Papillon

which really do demonstrate why Chenin

might be the next big thing.

The beauty of the Loire is the broad palate

of styles that it can produce, from the rich

dessert wines of Baumard to the crisp

Sauvignon Blanc produced at Domaine

Patrick Vauvy. Illustrating this, and

following on from the addition of Chinon’s

Domaine de la Noblaie last year, we have

added in the intense, nettley Sancerre from

Picard and the pure Saumur white and red

from Bonnelière.

Set just south of Nantes, the vineyards benefit from an exceptional microclimate; the warmth of the Atlantic brings Spring early, while the huge Lac de Grandlieu acts like a giant storage heater through growing season, giving extra ripeness and more fruit to the wines. Domaine des Baumard cases 56+ 30-55 10-29One of the Loire’s most lauded producers, Domaine Baumard’s history can be traced back to 1634 but the recent history begins in 1955 with the arrival of Jean Baumard who began the search for the best vineyard sites in the region. Having acquired fantastic sites in Quarts de Chaume as well as the remarkable Clos du Papillon in Savennières, Baumard has crafted some of the best wines from France. Florent Baumard joined the family business in 1987 and has retained the desire to respect the vineyard and make wines that are a true, sympathetic reflection of the remarkable soils in which they are grown. While much at the property remains true to the past, Baumard was amongst the first to embrace the move towards screwcaps and now bottles the majority of its wines with these closures to retain the purity of the carefully harvested fruit.

SancerreDomaine DaulnyBased in Chaudenay, Etienne Daulny owns 16 hectares of prime parcels across Sancerre, notably in Les Monts Damnés, Les Bois Butteux, and La Perrière. Two different vineyard soil structures add complexity to the wine; the “Caillottes” are very stony, hilly vineyards whilst the “Marnes Blanches” are made up of clay-limestone on a steep slope. The wines are made with a very long, cool fermentation with ageing on the fine lees for the whites to add texture to the eventual wine.

Domaine CrochetSouth west of the town of Sancerre lies the tiny commune of Bué - home to François Crochet. The son of a vigneron, he took over the estate in 1998 and together with his wife Carine works 10.5 hectares of vines, encompassing all three of the principle Sancerre terroirs. Although well travelled, his heart is in Bué and here he produces his own distinctive style of this classic wine. Now a victim of his own success, François cannot keep up with demand, making only limited, hand-crafted quantities. These wines are some of the most precise and refined Sancerre around; intensely flavoured with crisp, refreshing acidity and great length.

The total vineyard surface of 7.8 hectares is organically farmed although Alain Burguet doesn't trumpet this fact. He never fell into the trap of excessive viticultural chemical treatments, even during the intensive-spraying era of the 1970s' and 1980s. The vines are hand harvested. In the winery the very lowest amounts of SO2 are added to the wines.

The region of Alsace is like the French son of German parents and it is precisely this unique heritage that gives Alsace its point of difference, offering spicy, floral aromatic wines that cannot be found in any other region of the country. Tucked away between the Vosges Mountains and the Black Forest it can be easy to overlook this little wine region and indeed you may have overlooked our own range from Jean Baptiste Adam. These wines are an excellent match for any spicy Asian or fusion cuisine and if you haven’t tried them already, their smart packaging and screwcap closures should make them a ‘must try’ this year.

The Pinson Family are one of the longest established families in Chablis with records showing them as having been in Chablis since 1640. The family first started selling its bottles in 1880. In 2004 they created a new and state of the art winery, expanding the capacity of it's stock holding, installing a new press house, and also restoring two of its cellars for wines requiring long barrel aging.

Domaine GrossotDomaine Corinne and Jean Pierre Grossot is anchored on the slopes of the famous village of Fleys. It is thanks to the work and commitment of Jean-Pierre's grandparents that the Domaine came into existence in the 1920s. They have since passed their love of the wine to their children who in turn are sharing it with the current generation. Today, with their youngest daughter Eve, renewed passion is being invested in the vines and wine. The focus is on the expression of terroir to develop fine, elegant wines which respect the traditional characteristics of Chablis. The wines are exclusively from the vineyards of the 18 hectare Domaine which has vines on beautiful plots of Chablis and Chablis Premier Crus Vaucoupin, Mont de Milieu, Coastal Troëmes, Fourchaume and Fourneaux.

Côte de NuitsDomaine ForeyThis small but outstanding domaine was created in 1840 by the great-grandfather of Regis Forey, the current owner/winemaker and was one of the first estates to grace our portfolio (in 1982). The Forey domaine now consists of 9 1/2 hectares of vineyards. Regis Forey, the current owner/winemaker is a perfectionist and pays meticulous attention to detail in the winery and vineyards with yields rarely exceeding 30hl/ha.

Domaine BurguetAlain Burguet has been making terrific wines in Gevrey-Chambertin for nearly thirty years. Alain is approximately two barrels tall by one barrel wide, and his muscular physique could be seen in the wines he made in the 1980s, where the tannins were occasionally too firm for the fruit. His style has evolved since then, the fruit now being picked later and riper to add a richer dimension to his wines. He is now assisted by his two sons, Jean-Luc and Eric. Most of the 8 hectare domaine consists of village Gevrey-Chambertin.

Re-instating the Domaine as one of the finest in Meursault. Winemaking is traditional, where the wines complete their alcoholic and malolactic fermentations in oak casks. The style is one of elegance and restraint but with great depth.

Domaine PillotLaurent Pillot, who took over the running of Domaine Pillot when only in his mid-twenties, catapulted the family from being grape growers to a leading estate and one of the superstars of Chassagne-Montrachet. With a superb collection of vineyards and a modern winemaking facility on the edge of the village, both their red and white wines are of an excellent quality. Their wines are testament to this, from the exotic fruit driven Meursault through to the round, sultry Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Rouge the underlying minerality shines through. The 1er Cru St-Aubin is a serious wine with no shortage of minerality, and the Chassagne-Montrachet Blanc is super elegant.

Domaine Lucien Muzard Et Fils cases 56+ 30-55 10-29Lucien Muzard put together a remarkable collection of vineyard holdings in Santenay (with tiny lots in Chassagne rouge territory and in Pommard). He began at a young age with three-quarters of an acre of vines, replanted 12 acres, then went on to buy additional parcels as they came up over the years. In 1995 he handed over the reins to his sons Claude and Hervé, who immediately began domaine bottling their wine rather than selling it in bulk to négociants. Their decision to work biodynamically was taken to sustain and improve the health of their land.

Domaine Jaegar-DefaixIn October 2002, Hélène Jaeger-Defaix, Didier's wife, took over her first vineyard in Rully 1er cru Mont-Palais white (South Burgundy) from her great-aunt Henriette Niepce and in 2003 she added to this a second plot of Rully 1er Cru red. Located in the south of Côte de Beaune, Rully is a vineyard of 330 ha ( 220 ha white, 110 ha red) amongst which only 100 ha are classified as 1er crus. MâconnaisDomaine FichetNestled in the commune of Igé, northwest of Mâcon, Domaine Fichet was created in 1976 by Francis and Christiane Fichet. It is now run by their two sons, Pierre-Yves (winemaker) and Olivier (vineyard manager), who took over in 1988. They have since increased the size of the vineyard from 11 to 20 hectares and significantly raised the quality level of their wines. Olivier invested in a new winery in recent years to modernise their approach and ensure that hygiene is beyond reproach.

Domaine de FussiacusThe story of Fussiacus starts 1955, when the parents of Jean Paul Paquet left their native Bresse and started work as vineyard employees in the little village of Fuissé. In 1959 they started tenant farming, finally settling in 1971 in a small 3-hectare Domaine called Les Vieux Murs. In 1978 Jean Paul took over the estate and has expanded it to 6 ha and the new generation is now involved too with Jean Paul’s son Yannick a trained, worldly, winemaker and viticulturist.

BeaujolaisDomaine BerrodFounded in 1954, this 22 hectare family domaine is masterfully run by René Berrod, his daughter, and two sons. “This is Beaujolais at its very best,” comments Robert Parker, summarizing Berrod’s style, “and it gets my highest recommendations.” The vineyard sites are spread across 3 communes: Fleurie, Moulin à Vent and Beaujolais Villages to offer a range of terroirs. The Fleurie comes from a steep, southwest-facing slope with 50 year old vines (average). Harvest tends to come early in this region, and Berrod hand-picks only perfectly mature fruit. Berrod looks for pure elegance in his Fleurie, a wine redolent of violets and ripe red fruits. Parker characterizes the wine as “explosively fruity, rich, velvety Fleurie.”

Domaine de ColetteThe Domaine de Colette estate is in the heart of the Beaujolais Cru area, just quarter of an hour from Belleville-sur-Saône in a charming flower-decked village called Lantignié. The Domaine is in the hands of Evelyne and Jacky Gaulthier. Jacky is the 4th generation of winemakers in his family. Jacky started on his own at 17 when he took over his uncle’s estate as well as buying some additional plots to offer a wide range of terroir wines. When Evelyne's parents retired the estates were united to form Domaine de Colette. Jacky is extremely eco-aware and practises "Lutte Raisonnée" as well as using only organic manure.

Domaine Albert BelleOne of the stars of Northern Rhône, Domaine Albert Belle is one of a handful of producers achieving the exciting potential of this area and justifying its reputation as one of the classic regions of France. The Domaine’s white wines are produced from a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne, fermented in stainless steel at around 18 to 20 centigrade. Philippe Belle oak matures a quarter of the blend of Crozes-Hermitage and half of the Hermitage enhancing the full, ripe flavours and attractive, complex aromas of the wines.

Southern RhôneVal de GarrigueLong the home to some of the world’s finest value wines, the Southern Rhône’s multifarious appellations, sites and climates provide the perfect terroir in which to make characterful, low intervention wines. Working alongside Guillaume Gonnet, Val de Garrigue tracks down parcels of wine from some of the best vineyard sources in the region. Flanking both banks of the Rhône, sometimes following the route of the Via Domitia, the old Roman route from France to Spain, these vineyards are perfectly sited. A mixture of chalky clay and large round pebbles combines to ensure that this meagre earth forces the roots to dig deep while the 1000 hours of sun per year are reflected back up to the grapes to assist ripening. The dry, sunny climate aids vine health and, where needed, only organic fertilisers are used. Tasted, re-tasted and blended to our exacting standards, the resulting wines display an uncommon depth of flavour and character coupled with a savoury balance and length that is their hallmark.

Languedoc & South WestCahorsPaul Bertrand cases 56+ 30-55 10-29Crocus is a partnership between internationally renowned winemaker, Paul Hobbs and Bertrand Vigouroux, whose family has been producing wine in Cahors since the 1860s. Paul’s work with Malbec in Mendoza, brought world-wide attention to the variety, and provided inspiration for new styles to emerge. Crocus blends a single Malbec clone grown on three historic Vigouroux family properties on distinct terraces of the Lot River Valley. These sites are, Haute-Serre, one of the highest plateau in Cahors, Leret-Monpezat, on the middle terraces of the slope and Mercuès which lies closest to the Lot River. Paul and Bertrand are excited to bring new world innovation and old world tradition together in redefining Malbec de Cahors.

Côteaux du LanguedocChâteau La Clotte FontaneIn an undulating setting of pines, oaks and aromatic plants, the domaine is spread over 130 hectares, with just 27 hectares of vines, and has two types of soils. One, on the sunny eastern side is made up of large pebbles which give the wine a fruity fresh taste. The second, a flat clay limestone terrain, brings body and substance. The winery of Château la Clotte-Fontane combines modernity and tradition, originally built on the ruins of a roman villa. In 1432, according to historical documents, the castle belonged to Comte Pierre de Gange, but it was in XVIII century that Jean Mouton de la Clotte redesigned the property in the style we see it today. Maryline and Philippe Pagès fell under its spell in the 1990's and purchased the domaine. Since that time they have been working to restore the castle to its former magnificence.

Picpoul de PinetDomaine de MontredonDomaine de Montredon is a family owned estate in Castelnau de Guers, beside the Thau lagoon to the west of the Mediterranean’s Golfe de Lyon. The 55 hectare estate has 20 hectares of Picpoul in production making them one of the biggest producers in the region. The sunny south of France is perfect for producing healthy, ripe grapes without too much need for intervention. Despite its relatively high acidity this is a fairly late ripening grape here and is harvested after some of the red varieties. The Domaine was recently bought by Marion and Guillaume Alliés and their investment in the cellar and equipment means that the 2014 vintage in screwcap is the best yet.

Coin des CoquinsCoin de Coquins offer dual varietal blends that take the best of Southern French traditional winemaking and add a little new world know-how. Sourced from Gascony, St Chinian and Minervois we utilise cooler, higher altitude sites for the whites to maintain crisp fruit expression and varietal purity while the red is sourced from warmer sites in Minervois. Winemaking for whites is reductive and simple to retain bright fruit while the reds benefit from cool pre-fermentation maceration and hand plunging to maximise fruit over tannin.

MontsabléThe wines of Montsablé are inspired by the desire to craft elegant Burgundian varietals from Southern France. Working with growers in cooler sites of lower vigour, we seek out fruit that delivers pure flavours and great balance. In the winery, the fruit is handled carefully to build texture and mouthfeel, with oak only ever used to add just the most subtle of seasoning. The result is a Chardonnay with great palate weight, bright fruit and texture while our Pinot positively sings with lifted cherry and wild strawberry fruit.

La Vie en RoseInnovation is rare in the wine world, but the innovation of a new category, that of year round rosé drinking, is one of the few major changes of drinking habit that has occurred in the recent past. Firmly focused on capitalising on the global enthusiasm for all that is pink, La Vie en Rose is wonderfully evocative, almost ‘fin de siecle’ approach. La Vie en Rose is off to a stylish start. With just a faint blush of colour, a hint of red fruits and a fleeting brush of subtle, spicy wood, this is a supremely balanced, savoury food-friendly style of wine that will help even the most hardened of sceptics see the wine through rose tinted specs.

One of the bonuses of Germany’s northerly position is its naturally lower alcohol wines and, with demand being high in the UK for lighter styles, German wines are positioned well for 2015. The Riesling grape is Germany’s trump card, producing what many consider to be the best expression of this wonderful varietal. Its finest examples are grown in areas such as the Mosel and the Rheingau where long growing seasons allow for concentrated, complex flavours and the slatey soil lends a wonderful mineral character.

Estate wines give the consumer the best chance of

appreciating the quality of German wine and we are lucky

to deal with Wéingut Max Ferdinand Richter who aims

to combine progress and tradition in a harmonious way and

this is demonstrated in his perfectly crafted wines. Based in

the Mosel Valley, vines are planted on steep sites of grey slate,

mineral quartz and some areas of clay. Quality and concentration

are increased by extreme pruning and a green harvest in some

years. The work in the vineyards has certainly paid off with

Richter gaining a plethora of renowned awards in the world press.

Wéingut Max Ferdinand Richter, Mosel cases 56+ 30-55 10-29

The Richter family own 40 acres of vineyards in the central Mosel area and having owned vineyards here for the last 300 years, the winery is steeped in history. The family’s goal is to combine progress and tradition in a harmonious way and, with a reputation for producing some of the regions’ best Riesling, there is no doubt that they have achieved their goal. At Richter, quality is paramount - concentration is increased by severe pruning and even a green harvest in prolific years. Vintage is later than most growers in the region and all picking is done by hand. The work in the cellar shows the same attention to detail, with traditional winemaking practices allowing the grapes to express their full personality, setting them up for a long life. Mosel wine doesn’t get much better than this.

Despite the fact that winemaking in Hungary has at least 2000 years of tradition, the modern wine industry only dates from the fall of the communist system 20 years ago. Hungary has a myriad of different terroirs within its small territories. Amongst the 22 wine regions Tokaji Hegyalja is unquestionably the best known and arguably has the most potential to produce world class wines. A plethora of local varietals, unique botrytised sweet wines and excellent mineral soils make this region one of the best in the world.

Furmint is the flag bearer for the region and is already Central Europe’s best known indigenous

varietal. It yields excellent age-worthy dry whites, with splendid mineral expression, and it is also

the backbone of the legendary sweet wines of Tokaji.

The Szent Tamás winery was founded by 2 Hungarian businessmen and the son of Hungary's most famous and influential producers: Istevan Szepsy. They firmly believe the village of MÁD in the remote Tokaji region of Hungary is one of the great wine producing areas of the world. Working with vineyards that were shaped by several volcanic eruptions millions of years ago, their goal is to ensure that the once world renowned Tokaji Crus of MÁD would capture wine world`s attention again. Currently are working with 15 hectares of old vines in 9 different Crus, the MÁD Dry Furmint was created to be a benchmark representation of the village of MÁD through the collaborative work of the Szent Tamás winery and an ever growing number of small landowners.

PiedmontCascina Adelaide cases 56+ 30-55 10-29

After a highly successful engineering career, Amabile Droco achieved his lifetime's ambition when he purchased an old farmhouse and the accompanying vineyards in the heart of the village of Barolo. The employment of a top new winemaking team and the construction of an incredible new subterranean winery had a predictably positive effect on the quality of the wines produced but what really sets Cascina Adelaide apart is their vineyard holdings and their commitment to demonstrating the diversity of the terroirs within the Barolo DOCG. They now own top sites in 8 out of the 10 Barolo "Crus" with plans to get to 10 as and when the right sites become available. A horizontal tasting of the wines demonstrates the clearly defined characteristics of each of the vineyards in terms of fruit concentration, elegance and the structure of the tannins enabling the taster to appreciate not only the quality of the whole range but also which style is their own individual preference. Nor have the journalists been slow to recognise the fantastic quality of the wines with a number of the wines awarded 95 points from Wine Spectator as well as consistently coming out on top in Decanter tastings.

Tenuta Olim BaudaTenuta Olim Bauda has been in the Bertolino family since the 1960's and was the jewel in the crown of their negociant business. Tragically Sr. Bertolino died in 1985 leaving 3 very young children and no-one to run the business. Overnight, the thriving winery was closed down and for the next 15 years the fruit from their fantastic vineyards was sold to other producers. In 2000 the 3 siblings decided to try to revive the estate's fortunes and have, since then, managed to re-establish Tenuta Olim Bauda as one of Piedmont's top producers. A little help from the famous consultant Beppe Caviola and the acquisition of a prime site in the Gavi di Gavi DOC, means they now produce a range of Gavi's and Barbera d'Astis which have won huge acclaim including 3 Bichieri from the Gambero Rosso for the last 3 vintages of the top Barbera ‘Nizza’ and 92 points from Parker.

Alto AdigeCantina MeranoCantina Merano's slick, modern winery may recall a Bond villain's mountain lair, but what happens there undoubtedly brings greater joy to humanity than the Bond villain's nefarious schemes would have. Surrounded by terrifying steep vineyards, lovingly tended by hand, Merano produce wines with Alpine verve, minerality and a depth of fruit uncommon in Italy. It is easy to understand why Alto Adige wines; and Cantina Merano in particular; are some of the most sought after in Italy.

MabisThe Biscardo Family have been making wine from their base in Soave for over 150 years and the operations are currently led by brothers Maurizio and Martino Biscardo. Renowned for their Proseccos and Corvina based reds in particular, they are also involved in a fascinating project in Puglia. During the course of Maurizio's long and illustrious career, he has consulted for well known wineries around Italy and in doing so he came across the vineyards that provide the grapes for their Puglian wines. Both the Pugliese and Veneto wines are characterised by a dangerous drinkability, aromatic purity and exceptional value for money.

Latium Morini Inspired by the quality of the wines produced by their neighbour Romano dal Forno, the seven brothers and cousins who own Latium Morini decided not to sell the grapes from their best blocks to the local Cantina Sociale as they, and their fathers, had done for years but to make wine from them themselves. Since their first vintage in 2004 the torrent of accolades; including an IWC Gold for their Amarone and high ratings from Jancis Robinson; would suggest that they made the right decision. Now firmly established at the forefront of the new wave of quality modern producers of Soave, Valpolicella and Amarone the wines combine beautiful fruit concentration with fresh, bright acidity that makes a second glass (or bottle) almost impossible to resist.

RipanudaRipanuda is a new project from four dynamic young winemakers: Giacomo, Niccoló, Alberto and Michele. The men were friends for years, but found themselves working in wine throughout the world, cutting their teeth in Tuscany, Friuli, Calabria, California, South Africa and Serbia. When Alberto’s grandfather Beppe offered them a beautiful vineyard in Gaiole, situated on one of Tuscany’s highest hills in the heart of Chianti Classico, they jumped at the chance to return home. The winemaking team blends an immense respect for tradition with modern training acquired in Bordeaux and at U.C. Davis, and they have crafted elegant and harmonious reds that scream of Tuscany but will appeal to all. Committed to sustainable agriculture, the winery adhere strictly to the principles of biodynamic viticulture.

Bibi GraetzHaving initially trained as an artist, Bibi Graetz found his true calling at the bottom of a great bottle of wine. Without any formal training and with initially only a small 2 hectare vineyard on his parents property overlooking Florence at his disposal, he has managed to unceremoniously gatecrash the staid Tuscan wine scene and, in Testamatta, create one of Italy’s great cult wines. The lack of a traditional Tuscan estate has freed him to search out parcels of old vines around Tuscany, and even the Isola di Giglio, which are the basis for his concentrated, yet elegant wines.

A farmer to his fingertips, Andrea, though not certified, cultivates the land organically as he believes this allows his magical vineyard to express themselves fully. 96+ point scores from Wine Spectator mean that demand for the wines always outstrips supply but it is well worth trying to track a case down.

Umbria1 Tenimenti Santa Francesca

Tenimenti Santa Francesca is perched high in the hills overlooking the spectacular town of Orvieto. Nestled among 300 ha of their own vineyards, the new winery was built in 2011 and has all the bells and whistles that one would expect. A significant factor in the why the wines display uncommon fruit concentration and freshness is the altitude and consequent diurnial temperature variations, at which the fruit is grown. From Pinot Grigio to Orvieto to Sagrantino di Montefalco, these new wines are well worth seeking out.

Only the best grapes are selected for Collefrisio’s wines and all the wines are certified as organically produced. PugliaApollonio cases 56+ 30-55 10-29

You can expect great things from this historic family owned Pugliese estate. Apollonio was a benchmark producer in the region in the early part of the 20th Century and continues to forge ahead today with the fourth generation of the Apollonio family at the helm. The wines of Puglia have never received as much interest in the past as they do now. Tasting Apollonio’s wines shows that here at least the attention is justified. Great care is taken in the production and vinification of local grape varieties to produce wines of uniquely southern Italian character. Ageing typically takes place in barrel and then bottle for extended periods before release. Powerful and complex, the wines have flavours of ripe, dark fruits and leather, attractive weight, richness and balanced tannin. They brilliantly represent the terroir and climate of Puglia and yet are beautifully elegant in their structure and style.

The landscape is dotted with vineyards, olive groves, citrus trees, juniper trees and fichi d’India trees. Old vineyards located between 300-600m above sea level are grown on a mixture of clay and volcanic soils using the Guyot system with limited yields allowing for the production of outstanding wines with incredible food matching potential.

GulfiVito Catania comes from a proud tradition of vine growers and winemakers in his native Sicily and whilst he has spent his career in the very different sector of engineering, the lure of the vineyard proved too strong. The result is Gulfi, an exceptional young producer based in Ragusa; the 'home' of Nero d'Avola; that focuses on terroir specific, single vineyard bottlings of Sicily’s signature red varietal. In the 10 years since it's inception the wines made by Gulfi have demonstrated the huge potential of this varietal when old bush vines, careful site selection and exceptional winemaking are combined. Regularly garlanded with Tre Bicchieri awards from the Gambero Rosso, Gulfi was named 'Winery of the Year' by the Guide to the Best Italian wines of 2012; recognising the quality of the entire range and the pioneering work it has done in the promotion of Nero d'Avola.

Château Ka, Bekaa Valley cases 56+ 30-55 10-29

Having graduated in Oeneology from the Univeristy of Dijon, Akram Kassatly returned to Lebanon and, in 1973, managed to pull together sufficient funds to build his winery in the Bekaa Valley. Tragically, shortly after the first wines were made, Lebanon was engulfed by war. The winery was attacked by the militia who, as well as stealing everything they could, opened the tanks and let 500 000L flow out. Devastated at the destruction of his dream, and with 3 young children to support, Akram returned to the family business, and during the next 30 years, in spite of the enormous challenges of war and foreign occupation, he managed to grow it into a major corporation. However, he never forgot his dream of producing great wine. Unbeknownst to his family he started to buy land in the Bekaa Valley that would form the basis of their current 70 hectares of prime vineyard holdings and finally in 2005 he announced to his family that he was going to build another winery. Today's Château Ka is the best equipped winery in Lebanon. They are also the only wines in Lebanon produced entirely from their own vineyards ensuring complete control over the quality of the fruit from which the wines are made. The vineyards, planted at an altitude of 1300m high in the North of the valley, are a combination of clay loam and limestone, enabling Château Ka to produce both rich, concentrated reds and beautifully fresh, fruit, crisp white wines that are some of the finest produced in the country.

New Zealand

Zephyr Wines, Marlborough cases 56+ 30-55 10-29

Zephyr Wines is a family winery based in Dillon’s Point, Marlborough and was started by the Glover family in 1985 after being inspired by other mavericks in the region to convert their farm to vine. They've never looked back and Owen and Wendy Glover, along with son Ben, one of New Zealand’s most acclaimed and talented winemakers, now produce award-winning wines from what has become one of the most established single vineyards in the region. Tim Atkin described their Sauvignon Blanc as “about as good as Marlborough gets” and Matthew Jukes says their Pinot would “wow Burgundian stalwarts". The Gewurtzraminer and a Riesling follow suit in showcasing the more savoury and 'savage' style Zephyr has become renowned for. The critics are proving what we’ve known for a long time: that the Glover’s are styling something special out Marlborough that no-one else has.

Ferndale, WaiparaGiven our long term approach to Australia, it makes sense for us to work in the land of the long white cloud. New Zealand's verdant pastures may have disappeared to make way for vineyards but it remains a spectacular country, full of diverse climates and microclimates. The quality has never been better and we're delighted to be able to introduce our new Ferndale range of classic Kiwi varietals.

Mount Edward, Central OtagoMaverick, revolutionary, genius, ingenious, insubordinate, dynamo, pioneer and avant-garde, these are just a few words that have been used to describe Duncan Forsyth, winemaker at Mount Edward wines. With two decades of experience in Central Otago, Duncan’s aim is to make great wine that has personality, reflecting its origins with everything being 'hands-on'. Not content with just making fantastic Pinot, after advice from French soil and wine expert Dr Claude Bourguignon in the early 2000’s, Duncan planted some Riesling in his top Morrison vineyard which now regularly delivers some of Mount Edward's most exciting and extreme wines. We feel very lucky to have been granted a small allocation of the Mount Edward and Morrison Vineyard Rieslings this year and are delighted to be adding them to our portfolio. Volumes are tiny and these are not wines to miss the boat on!

Julia Kemper, DãoThe estate has been in Julia Kemper's family for over 400 years and has always produced high quality wine. Julia's great, great uncle even won a gold medal for a wine produced on the estate at the Berlin wine fair in 1910! More recently the farm had fallen into disrepair and the wine produced was consumed by the family. Though originally a lawyer, Julia, with the encouragement of her father has taken over the estate determined to replicate the great wines that it produced in the last century and has spent the last 7 years carefully replanting the vineyards and equipping the small winery with a little help from family friend Dirk Nieport. Accolades from the world's top journalists have poured in since the first vintage in 2008 and they are consistently voted in the top Portuguese Wines.

Umbrele cases 56+ 30-55 10-29

For years the Chileans have propagated the myth that they alone are capable of producing quality, modern single vineyard wines at very affordable prices but the wines from Umbrele, hailing from the shadows of the Carpathian Mountains in Transylvania, demonstrate how wrong they were. Massive investment in new vineyards and in the winery has resulted in beautifully fresh and fruity wines that would be enough to convince even Dracula of the error of his ways.

CalusariAs you walk through the rolling vineyards of the 700 hectare Cramele Recas estate, two things are inescapable. The first is the scale of the transformation that Englishman Philip Cox and his wife Elvira have managed to achieve, replanting 700 hectares of decrepit vineyards and replacing them with immaculately tended sites the equal of anywhere else in the world. The second is that if you didn't know where you were, you'd be convinced you were in Tuscany or any other "Classic" wine producing region. And to a certain extent you are, Romania has a history of winemaking stretching back millennia and it was this potential that has driven this dynamic duo to dedicate their lives to driving forward Romanian winemaking to it's current state of rude health. A 20 million euro investment in the vineyards and brand new winery, as well as recruiting seasoned new world winemakers, has enabled them to produce top quality reds and whites from a broad range of varietals at very competitive prices.

Aloe Tree, Western Cape cases 56+ 30-55 10-29

The fruit for Aloe Tree hails from the increasingly fashionable west coast of the Cape. Cool nights and sea breezes combine to extend the growing season, resulting in perfectly balanced, ripe grapes. The iconic Aloe Tree image is sure to be familiar to anyone who has travelled widely through the Cape and is an important part of the biodiversity which South Africa is famous for. The characteristic silhouette provides a backdrop to one of the most spectacular wine regions in the world where vines grow in harmony with the thousands of plant species that make up the Cape Floral Kingdom.

Mary le Bow, RobertsonBruce Jack's desire to 'do things a bit differently' has proven to be a big success with his latest introduction into the UK, Mary le Bow. Babylon's Peak, SwartlandA very small estate with some of the highest altitude vineyards in the region, some of which are elevated at 700m above sea level, Babylon’s Peak focuses on extreme quality and value for money. The name refers to a granite peak that is clearly visible from the vineyards and locally referred to as Babylonstoren. The Basson Family have been involved in cultivating this land since 1919, but it wasn't until 2003 that Stephan decided to make his dream a reality and produce wine here again. Since then the wines have gone from strength to strength. The minerality of the Chenin Blanc, the Rhône style Viognier and the intensely concentrated Syrah Carignan are all testament to the hard work and dedication taken to fulfil Stephan’s dream.

Raats Family Wines, StellenboschBruwer Raats has received international and local acclaim during his career as cellar master and winemaker par excellence. Having carved out a reputation as a New World leader in the production of Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc, Bruwer crafts soil specific wines that embody the unique characteristics of the Stellenbosch region: a truly distinctive showcase for South African wine and soil, with a consistency in quality that is unquestionable. The Original Chenin Blanc epitomises the balance between power and elegance while the Family Chenin delivers a refined complexity with firm minerality. The über-elegant and sexy Family Cabernet Franc shows the stunning heights this varietal can attain, while the continued collaboration between Mzokhona Mvemve and Bruwer on their MR de Compostela exceeds even Bruwer’s high expectations; this year being awarded a place in the top 100 South African wines.

GaliciaBouza do Rei, DO Rías Biaxas cases 56+ 30-55 10-29

Galicia is a very individual region within Spain, with a language and culture all of its own. It is also home to arguably Spain's greatest white grape, Albariño, which grows on the traditional pergolas all over the Rías Baixas area of Galicia. Many of the producers in the region are very small and, as a result, prices for Albariño are pretty solid. While not exactly cheap, Bouza do Rei is one of the best value wineries we have come across. Working as a small cooperative, 5 local vineyard owners pool their resources to make just 2 wines. Castel de Bouza is finer, more structured and exemplifies all that great Albariño should be: fine, minerally, citrus fruit with hints of the salty maritime air. Lagar de Bouza is fuller, rounder and uses more press wine to give fullness of flavour.

1 Pazo Señorans, DO Rías BiaxasThe leading producer in Rias Baixas, widely recognised as one of Spain’s finest producers. It has frequently won “Best White Wine” trophy at the Wines from Spain awards and regularly receives the highest score from The Wine Advocate of all Albariños. Of the three wines, Pazo Señorans Albariño is generally sold as young wine in the year following harvest but, and this is the important thing about Señorans, it has the ability to age and is probably at its best 18-36 months after harvest. The Seleccion Añada is unique, having been aged on its lees in small steel tanks for up to 36 months and demonstrates above all the ageing potential of Albariño, and Señorans in particular, that we think no other producer can mimic.

Casal de Armán, DO RibeiroHailing from Galicia in the North West of Spain, this family owned estate produces wines of exceptional quality from unusual grape varietals such as Treixadura, Godello and Albariño. Focusing on fruit driven, textural wines, Armán's passion, dedication and respect for their terroir make them the leading winery in DO Ribeiro. As well as the Blanco, we also offer Blanco Barrica which is made from 100% Treixadura and aged in French oak for 6 months. Lauded in the press and recognised with a host of awards these wines are not to be missed.

If last year we said that we believed Spain to be “the most interesting and best value source of wine in Europe” it is now apparent that we very clearly held that to be true. Not only have we developed wines with our existing producers but have assimilated a further seven to create a deep and widespread Spanish list.

The Merayo family have been growing grapes for generations in Bierzo and one look at Pedro's immaculate vineyards suggests he knows what he's doing. Apparently a number of other well-known local producers think so too and are passing off Pedro's vineyards as their own on their websites! The bulk of Pedro's 25 hectares of ancient vines were inherited from his father but Bodegas Merayo and the new winery (housed in a converted apple store) were established as recently as 2010. The combination of Pedro's meticulous viticulture and the wine making expertise of the young, dynamic Fermin Uria is; in our opinion; already producing spectacular results.

Dominio de Caïr, DO Ribera del DueroRibera del Duero has long been one of the most revered regions of Spain thanks to the presence of Vega Sicilia since the 19th century. The latest inspiring project comes from the Riojan stalwart Luis Cañas, Dominio de Caïr, is sure to become a classic part of this region’s fabric. Based in Aranda del Duero, Dominio de Caïr embraces the innovative viticultural and winemaking techniques typical of the wines of Bodegas Luis Cañas and Bodegas Amaren. Cair displays both the power and finesse evident in the top wines from this iconic region. Cuvée de Cair and Cair both display great balance between the fruit and the oak: Cair won the IWC Ribera del Duero Trophy at this years awards: while Tierras de Cair, aged in barrel for 24 months, is a silky smooth example of Ribera.

Alvarez y Diez, DO RuedaAlvarez y Diez was founded in the Rueda region in 1941 and has long been one of the most important players in an increasingly important D.O. Over the recent past, major investments have been made, and continue to be made, to ensure that the winery is at the vanguard of changing wine styles in the region. Concentrating on the indigenous Verdejo and Sauvignon Blanc, they were one of the first to produce the crisp, herbaceous style so associated with the region today and also the first to introduce screw caps to the region. Headed by owner Juan de Benito and winemaker Pilar Garcia, Alvarez y Diez is a pioneer producer with which Alliance is proud to share a long and fruitful relationship.

Bodegas Veracruz, DO Rueda cases 56+ 30-55 10-29

The Bodega takes its name from "La Ermita de la Veracruz": a literal translation being The Hermitage of the True Cross, in the village of Nava del Rey, one of the longest and most celebrated of winemaking traditions in the DO. The Bodega that was built beneath this chapel has belonged to the "de Benito" family since the mid-1980s. In the bell-tower of this chapel a pair of storks nest every year, and they are the inspiration for the Veracruz label. The de Benito family were pioneers in applying new winemaking techniques in order to change the style of the wines, taking them from the dull wines made from over-ripe Verdejo with a high level of alcohol, to today's wines: an explosion of aromas, fruit and freshness. Veracruz is one of the finest, if not the finest, example of Verdejo in the world.

TxakolíBodegas Itsasmendi, DO TxakolíBodegas Itsasmendi (meaning sea and mountains in Basque) produce three world class wines from one of Spain's most renowned winemakers. An original young Txakolí with bags of personality sits alongside the innovative barrel fermented Itasmendi No.7, while the perfectly balanced Urezti (meaning honeyed water) late harvest wine is one of the most unique wines you are likely to taste.

Bodegas Luis Cañas, DOCa Rioja AlavesaBodegas Luis Cañas has been at the heart of Rioja since 1928 though the contemporary story begins in 1970 when Luis Cañas became the first Rioja Alavesa winemaker to bottle his young wine rather than sell it in bulk. Situated in Villabuena, Luis Cañas utilise their knowledge of the local climate, terroir, cultivation methods and a real sense of pride and dedication to create these unique wines; every harvest Luis Cañas, now 86, stands at the head of the selection table keenly ensuring only the best parcels of grapes are used. The end result is wine consistently packed with fruit and wrapped in a silky, oak laced layer of flavour that seems unique to Rioja: truly world class.

1 Abel Mendoza, DOCa RiojaModest and passionate about his vineyards Abel and his wife Maite have been making understated wines in San Vicente since 1988. Lying in the line of villages (Laguardia to Labastida) in the lee of the Sierra Cantabria, Abel has vineyards on the finest parts of the Alavesa. His knowledge and understanding of the soils is enthralling and to taste in his cellar can be an education on the effects different soils have in different years. He wants only to express the fruit and the soil and unlike many Riojans he leaves it more or less at that. He does not want to stamp the wines with any particular style or mark of his own making other than his respect for the very natural quality of the grapes. His white wines, in very small quantities, are special, distinctive and sensational!

CatalunyaBodegas Sumarroca, DO CavaHailing from Penedès, the home of Cava, Bodegas Sumarroca makes excellent sparklers that belie the price. Generations of the Sumarroca family have devoted themselves to making Cava. Combining their passion for the land and tenacity in cultivating vines their Cava’s have bags of personality and character. Carlos Sumarroca, the owner, is one of Spain’s most important and awarded agriculturists and together with his wife Nuria bought the 15th century estate in 1982. The enterprising couple set about establishing one of the largest estate-only grown vineyard Cava producers in Spain. They practice sustainable farming, harvest at night and only use only free-run juice - selling off the pressed juice to other bodegas. Their winery is terraced along the hillside so that all movement of wine is gravity fed. The whites are blends of the traditional Cava varietals of Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel-lo with a small amount of Chardonnay, while their Rosado’s are made from Pinot Noir. Design driven with their packaging, their top wine Nuria is in a specially designed bottle that is unique to the winery.

A little village of 400 people hidden in the hills of Catalan countryside inland from Tarragona exists mostly for its co-operative. Growing olives, a little cereal but mostly grapes with around 220 hectares of vineyard Capçanes alone in the Montsant DO almost certainly has more Garnacha than the whole of Priorato. Lauded some years ago by the International Herald Tribune as one of the best co-ops in the world Capçanes was at the forefront of the movement to revitalise the wine production and economy of Priorato (NB Capçanes is in Monstant DO but Priorato “Comarca”).

Pla de Bages1 Oller del Mas, DO Pla de Bages

Fabulous old estate (with a castle) in Cataluña inland from Penedès and just behind Montserrat. Frank Margenat is the current incumbent, from a family that traces its ownership of the estate back 1000 years, and has been responsible for reinvigorating its wine production. 45 hectares of certified organic vineyards growing Macabeo, Malvasia, Merlot , Mando, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and most notably Picapoll Blanco and Picapoll Negre. Two indigenous grape varieties sharing a name but otherwise unrelated that set this DO apart and in the case of Negre, this estate. Oller del Mas has exclusive growing rights for 7 years since recovering this variety from some odd plants found on the estate.

Campo Flores, VdT CastillaThe sun drenched vineyards of central Spain provide the perfect, natural backdrop to organic grape growing and it's with these grapes that the wines of Campo Flores are crafted. Evoking memories of less intense farming, and honest produce, Campo Flores wines taste naturally good. A vivacious and tangy Verdejo Sauvignon and a succulent, juicy Tempranillo these wines bring together all that is good in modern Spanish winemaking.

Torre Solar, VdT CastillaThese wines were made by our own resident winemaker, Brent King. The name Torre Solar, meaning Solar Tower, draws its inspiration from the Solar Tower built on the outskirts of the winemaking town of Manzanares. At the cutting edge of experimentation in alternative energies the contrast between the old windmills and the new solar tower was more than striking. Torre Solar, contrasting but complementing the old and the new, selects out individual vineyard sites, vinifies them separately and brings them to market in a package that provides a beacon for quality in the region.

JumillaThe Mimic, DO JumillaUnabashed in its ability to match the bold, rich flavours of its Antipodean counterparts, The Mimic Shiraz is a southern Spanish take on an old favourite. Displaying a plethora of ripe, dark fruits, hints of mocha, vanilla and spice, this Aussie bashing red, mimics the strident style that has found such favour in the southern hemisphere.

Viña Elena, DO JumillaWidely considered one of the best wineries in Jumilla, Viña Elena is headed up by Elena Pacheco and her three sisters, who are setting the bar incredibly high with the wines they are producing. Monastrell is the predominant variety in the Viña Elena portfolio and flourishes in the nutrient poor, limestone soils. Trained using the traditional Spanish method ‘en vaso’, the wines produced by Viña Elena are thoroughly Mediterranean in style, certified organic and offer outstanding value.

Valencia1 Celler del Roure , DO Valencia

Pablo Calatayud’s family, like most in the area, had always tended vineyards and made wine but it was his decision in 1995 to extend his vineyard holdings and build a modern cellar that gave the first indication that Celler del Roure would become the pioneer of quality wine in Valencia. Pablo had long been convinced of the quality of indigenous Valencian varieties but was frustrated that oak ageing of the wines, whilst improving the structure, sacrificed their characteristic freshness, elegance and distinctive flavours. Utilising the traditional large clay amphorae found in his old cellars, combined with meticulous care in the vineyards, he is now able to craft truly authentic wines with great precision and texture.

Condado de Huelva1 Bodegas Contreras Ruiz, DO Condado de Huelva

Family owned and run winery in Huelva, in the deep south of Spain, on the Atlantic coast close to Portugal on one side and the Doñana national park on the other. Working predominantly with local grape variety; Zalema, they explore every way in which the grape can be used. Sparkling Zalema, dry white Zalema, barrel fermented Zalema, fortified Zalema and now exploring the possibility of last harvested sweet Zalema, they must be preoccupied by Zalema throughout the day. They even co-operate with the university of Sevilla in studies on Zalema. For brief respite they do grow a little Syrah.

Jerez1 Equipo Navazos

A group of like-minded friends decided to select and share out amongst themselves the contents of an old barrel of Amontillado at Sanchez Ayala; and so the Equipo Navazos project began. Enthusiasm from the original group’s friends and a willingness to share and explore further the jewels that lie hidden around Jerez has determined that nowadays Equipo Navazos and the La Bota range is a slightly better known “secret” than it was 5 years ago. Those at the centre of Equipo Navazos, with their intimate knowledge of Jerez and particularly its cellars are able to find and select extraordinary wines from the many fine producers with whom they collaborate.

AsturiasZythos SidraFew in the U.K are even aware that Spain has an indigenous cider culture to match our own. The region of Asturia, with the majestic city of Oviedo at its heart, is the home to the industry and to the eponymous D.O for Sidra production. During the Franco regime, the rebellious Asturians were the target of efforts to quell dissention and Franco believed that to hit at the heart of their culture, one had to regulate the Siderias – as a result, he banned singing in Siderias but he could not ban the production of sidra altogether! Today, the industry is innovating and providing new life for a category that could have declined. The “nuevo expression” sidras are clear, sometimes single varietal ciders that aim to compete on equal terms with wine. Interesting though they are, we have decided to introduce a tradional “escanciar” Sidra. Slightly cloudy and still, it is intended for pouring a small amount into a glass from height (escanciar) which is then downed in one go. It’s a skill that takes some time to develop but what fun you can have whilst practising!

Lenné EstateOregon

Very poor soils and an elevated site with dense planting restricts the natural vigour. This is enhanced by the planting of cover crops to provide further competition and to supply natural nitrogen to the vines. Lenné only use organic sprays, rely on gravity for all wine movements and, through meticulous hygiene in the winery, ensure that suplhur useage is low.

OregonLenné Estate, Yamhill CarltonIt is all about location, location, location. Lenné Estate started the search for a great site for Pinot Noir in 1999 and discovered it on a warm April day in 2000. It was immediately clear how warm the site was, what perfect orientation it had and how well drained the soils were. They knew this was an A+ site. What they didn’t know is how difficult it would be to farm. But great wines never come easy. But after some rough years, they started making wine out of the fruit and the site started to reveal why you grow Pinot Noir in difficult places: to produce delicious wines totally reflective of one specific place. The winemaking style is minimalist taking advantage of the profound flavours.

The wines reflect the terroir of the Spring Valley, where it is a little bit cooler than the rest of Walla Walla due to its higher elevation. The winemaker, Serge, is of French origin, and wanted to spend a few years in Walla Walla, which is now more of a permanent home for him. These highly acclaimed wines include 'Uriah' a Merlot based red blend; 'Katherine Corkrum' Cabernet Franc and 'Frederick' a Cabernet Sauvignon based blend.

IMPORTANT: These Terms of Sale are considered by us to set out the whole agreement between you and us for the sale of the wine. Please ensure that you read and understand these Terms of Sale before you submit an order, because you will be bound by these Terms of Sale once a contract comes into existence between you and us (no previous written or oral agreements will apply to that contract).

PLACING YOUR ORDER

Making & accepting orders: You can place orders for wine by telephone, email, fax, via our website or directly with our sales representatives. Your order is deemed to be an offer by you to enter into a legally binding contract with us. We are free to accept or decline your offer at our absolute discretion. These Terms of Sale shall form a binding contract between you and us only when we either issue you with express written or verbal acceptance of your order or we deliver the wine (or make the wine available for collection, where applicable), whichever is the earlier, at which point a contract shall come into existence between you and us (our receipt of payment does not constitute our acceptance). Contracts can be concluded in the English language only.

Minimum order quantity: Unless otherwise expressly agreed by us, we will not accept orders for less than 3 cases containing 9 litres of wine in each case. Where we accept orders for less than this quantity, a delivery surcharge is payable by you, as detailed in ‘Other charges’ below.

Availability of wine: All of the wine we offer is subject to availability from our suppliers. We will try to contact you promptly if we are unable to supply the wine that you have ordered and we will give you the option of either varying or cancelling your order.

Age restriction: It is illegal for us to sell wine to anyone who is, or appears to be under the age of 18 years. By placing an order, you confirm that you are at least 18 years of age: we reserve the right to cancel the contract between you and us if we or our couriers are unsure of whether you are at least 18 years old.

Cancellation: If you are a consumer, you can cancel your order for any reason up to 7 working days from the date of delivery of the wine, provided that all of the bottles are unopened and intact. We will refund the full price you have paid to us for that order within 30 days from the date of cancellation. Any wine delivered must be made available for our collection and we reserve the right to charge the cost to us of recovering the wine. If you are not a consumer, we might, at our sole discretion, still permit you to cancel your order if we decide that this will not adversely affect us: please contact us promptly if you wish to cancel.

PRICES AND PAYMENT

Our prices: The price payable by you for our wine will be, unless otherwise agreed in writing, the price set out in our price list published at the time the wine is ordered. We may alter our prices at any time prior to delivery to account for factors such as VAT, excise duty, market and currency fluctuations and in such cases we shall endeavour to contact you promptly and give you the option of either paying the revised price or cancelling your order. Our prices are quoted exclusive of Value Added Tax and VAT will be charged where applicable at the prevailing rate (unless exempt from VAT or in the case of a sale transaction under bond where zero vat rate applies).

Other charges: Duty and the cost of delivery to either mainland Great Britain or mainland Northern Ireland are included in the prices we quote, unless otherwise stated. If we accept an order from you for less than 10 cases of wine to be delivered to an address in mainland Great Britain or mainland Northern Ireland, an additional delivery surcharge of £4.50 plus VAT per case of 9 litres will be imposed. If you require delivery be made to a destination which is not in mainland Great Britain or mainland Northern Ireland, please contact our customer service department.

Currency: You must make payment to us in the same currency as the price quoted by us at the time you placed your order. We reserve the right to make any refunds in the currency you used to make payment to us.

Making payment: Unless otherwise agreed by us in writing, payment for all wine must be made in advance in cleared funds (without any deduction by way of set-off or counterclaim). We accept payment by all major credit cards except American Express. We also accept payment by cheque payable to ‘Alliance Wine Company Limited’, by Direct Debit or by bank transfer (our bank details are available on request).

Late payment: Where we agree that payment may be made in arrears but you fail to make the payment due to us in full by the due date for payment, we reserve the right to charge interest to you on the overdue amount at the rate of 4% per year above the base lending rate of the Bank of Scotland from time to time. This interest shall accrue on a daily basis from the due date until the date of actual payment of the overdue amount, whether before or after judgment. You must pay us interest together with the overdue amount. Without limiting any other remedies or rights that we may have, if you do not pay us on time, we may cancel or suspend any outstanding order until you have paid all outstanding amounts.

We reserve the right to withdraw any credit facility provided and all monies will become due and payable with immediate effect.

Transfer of ownership: Ownership of the wine will only pass to you when we receive payment in full of all sums due for the wine, including delivery charges, where applicable. You may however resell the wine in the ordinary course of your business after we have delivered it to you (but you must not deal with the wine in any other way, nor may you permit any lien, charge or encumbrance to be created over the wine, until, in any such case, payment has been made to us in full). If you fail to make payment to us in full within 30 days of the due date for payment or if the contract between you and us is cancelled or otherwise terminated for any reason prior to payment being made to us, you agree that, without limiting any other remedies or rights that we may have, we (and our agents) shall be entitled to enter any premises where you store wine to ascertain whether any of the wine we own is stored there and to inspect, count and recover that wine.

Return of Goods: Return of goods is solely at company discretion and must be agreed prior to return. Any transportation cost for returned goods will be your responsibility unless otherwise agreed.

DELIVERY

Date for delivery: We will try to deliver the wine you have ordered promptly (or otherwise as agreed by our customer service department at the time you place your order): however, any delivery dates we provide are estimates only. If we cannot supply the wine you have ordered (where applicable, by making it available in accordance with any Incoterms we have used, as explained below) within 30 days of receiving your order (or by any alternative date we have agreed with you), we will contact you as soon as possible to give you the option of either accepting a later delivery date or cancelling your order. If we are not reasonably able to ascertain your preference, your order will be treated as cancelled.

Delivery location & risk: Unless otherwise stated by us, deliveries will only be made to addresses in mainland Great Britain or mainland Northern Ireland and all risks to the wine will be your responsibility from the time of delivery. This does not apply where we incorporate Incoterms, as explained below.

Our use of Incoterms: Where stated in our price list (or in contract terms agreed by us), our wine will be supplied:

Ex-Works (also referred to by us as ‘Ex-Cellar’ or ‘Ex-[name of cellar]’);Free On Board (also referred to by us as ‘FOB’);Free Carrier [place] (also referred to by us as ‘FCA’); orCost, Insurance and Freight [named destination port] (also referred to by us as ‘CIF’).

These expressions shall have the meaning given to them in the International Chamber of Commerce’s ‘International Commercial Terms’ / ‘Incoterms’ and, where these expressions are used by us, the applicable responsibilities set out in the most recent version of Incoterms in effect when ordering shall apply in addition to the provisions in these Terms of Sale (and in the event of any conflict, the provisions of Incoterms shall prevail). More information regarding Incoterms is available at http://www.iccwbo.org/incoterms.

Failure to accept delivery: We may use an independent courier of our choice. If you fail to accept delivery of the wine you have ordered within 3 days of our first attempt to deliver the wine to the specified address, we may charge you for any consequential storage costs reasonably incurred by us (unless your failure is caused by events beyond your reasonable control) and we shall not be liable for late delivery.

LIABILITY DISCLAIMER

Extent of this disclaimer: Nothing in these Terms of Sale shall in any way limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence; for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or for any other matter for which it would be illegal or unlawful for us to exclude or attempt to exclude our liability.

Liability restriction: If you or we do not comply with these Terms of Sale, neither you nor we shall be responsible for any loss of income or revenue, loss of business, loss of anticipated savings, any waste of time nor other losses that the other suffers as a result which are not a foreseeable consequence of the failure to comply with these Terms of Sale.

Liability to business customers: Unless you are a consumer, our total liability to you, in respect of any claim by you arising out of or in connection with the provision of (or the failure to provide) wine shall be limited to the sum paid by you to us for the wine which is the subject of the claim. Unless you are a consumer, all wine must be examined by you upon receipt and we shall not be liable for any shortages or breakages which are not reported to us within 24 hours of us delivering the wine (or making the wine available for collection, where applicable).

Events outwith our control: We shall not be liable for any delay or failure to supply wine which is wholly or partly caused directly or indirectly by any circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including, without limitation: adverse weather or natural disaster; terrorism, war or civil commotion; any labour dispute; compliance with any law or governmental order, rule, regulation or direction; or non-performance by any of our suppliers.

GENERAL LEGAL MATTERS

What we mean: In these Terms of Sale: references to ‘we’ and ‘us’ mean Alliance Wine Company Limited, a company incorporated in Scotland with company number SC090255 and VAT number 406 6418 61 and having its registered office at 7 Beechfield Road, Willowyard Estate, Beith, Ayrshire, KA15 1LN;

references to a ‘consumer’ mean an individual who places an order with us in his or her personal capacity and not in the course of trade or business;

references to ‘wine’ means the product you have ordered from us: our products include, without limitation, wine, port, cognac, brandy, fruit liqueur and other such drinks;

references to the plural include the singular and vice versa;

the headings shall not affect the interpretation of these Terms of Sale; and

references to ‘writing’ or similar expressions shall include communications by email.

Changes to these terms: We may revise these Terms of Sale from time to time. The revised version will apply to orders placed after the revised version is published and, where required to enable us to comply with the law, to any orders you have already made which we have not yet fulfilled.

Unenforceable provisions: If any of the provisions in these Terms of Sale are held by any competent authority to be unlawful or unenforceable in whole or in part, the remainder of the provision in question and the remaining provisions of these Terms of Sale shall continue in full force and effect to the fullest extent possible.

Insolvent customers: We may at any time, by giving you notice in writing, immediately terminate any contract made with you if the applicable order was made on behalf of a company and:

that company passes a resolution that it be wound up or dissolved or it makes an arrangement with its creditors (other than, in each case, for the sole purpose of a scheme for a solvent amalgamation of that company with one or more other companies or the solvent reconstruction of that company);

the Court makes an administration order or winding up order in relation to that company; an administration, administrative receiver, receiver or manager is appointed by a creditor or by the Court in relation to that company; or possession is taken of any of the property of that company under the terms of a floating charge; or

any event analogous to the events described in clauses or above occurs in any jurisdiction in which the relevant party is incorporated or resident or does business.

Law and dispute forum: These Terms of Sale shall be governed by Scots law and you and we both agree to submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.

Credit Accounts and use of personal data

The following information is applicable if you apply for a credit account with us:

Information we use: If you apply for a credit account with us, we will search the records we hold and your records at credit reference agencies: they will give us shared credit information, fraud prevention information, and public information (such as details of English County Court Judgments, bankruptcies and information from the electoral register). If an application for a credit account is being made by or on behalf of a company, partnership, or other such entity, we may use credit reference agencies to check the details of the individuals who own and/or control that business. You must ensure that they are all aware that their details may be used in this way. Please contact us if you want details of those credit reference agencies from which we obtain, and to which we pass, information about you. You have a legal right to these details. We may use credit scoring or other automated decision-making systems to assess your application.

Sharing information about you: We may share your information with credit reference agencies. This information remains on the agencies’ files for 6 years after our credit arrangement with you is terminated. Whether or not your application proceeds, the agencies will add to your record details of our searches and your application. This record (but not our name) will be seen by other organisations when you apply for credit in the future. A large number of applications within a short period of time could affect your ability to obtain credit. We will also add to your record with the agencies details of your business’ agreement with us, the payments your business makes under it, and any default or failure to keep to its terms.

Use of your credit reference information: The information held by the credit reference agencies we use will be disclosed to us and other organisations (in the UK and in other countries) to, for example prevent fraud and money laundering; trace your whereabouts; recover debts that you owe; manage credit accounts and other facilities; or to make decisions on credit, insurance and other facilities, about you, your financial associate(s), members of your household or your business.

Linked information: The information credit reference agencies give us about you may already be linked to information about someone else you have had a joint account or similar financial association with, including members of the same household. By submitting an application you confirm that their finances will not affect our decision. We may check this and may turn down the application if we find it is inaccurate. An ‘association’ between joint applicants (between you and your business partner, for example) will be created at credit reference agencies. This will link your financial records, each of which will be taken into account in all future applications by either or both of you. This will continue until one of you successfully applies to the agencies to have the association removed.
