personal down time in the North Georgia Mountains. If you have never gone to an out of

Chapter 3 - Sowega Sams

Sowega Sams Chapter 3 held their August 2015 campout at the Emerald Lake Campground in Colquitt, Ga. We had 11 rigs

attending. Roy and Nell Wohlforth, Harold and Carolyn Kelly, Harold and Barbara Fleshman and Terry and Payton Varnadore

visited for a day. Hosts for the month were C. R. and Pat Taylor and Trudy Bayne and Betty Richie. Tuesday, several ladies

went shopping in Colquitt to the Hissy Fit Gift Store and some of the men went golfing. For lunch some went to Moby Dicks in

Colquitt and some went to Donaldsonville to the Gateway Restaurant. Wednesday, the hosts had a Mexican Style meal for the

club featuring several Mexican dishes. The hosts dressed Mexican Style. Prayer meeting was held after the meal with Wendell

Brown, Chaplin, doing our Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting. On Thursday, the club went to the Terrra Inn for their campout

meal. Many games of hand and foot, Mexican Train, Golf and Sequence were played.

Campout for September was held at the Samboree in Perry, Georgia. Our Club won first place in the Bean Bag Baseball

competition.

Sowega Sams Chapter 3 October campout was held at the Brickyard Plantation RV Park in Americus, Ga. We had 14 rigs

attending with Wendell and Faye Brown and Roy and Nell Wohlforth attending for a day on Wednesday. Hosts for October

were Jim Soos and Ann Foster and Jack and Donna Sangster. The hosts held their monthly fund raiser for the VA Hospital on

Tuesday night by serving a Spaghetti Supper with all the trimmings. Wednesday at lunch, we ate at a Romans Pizza Parlor. On

Wednesday night, they served a hot dog supper. For the Campout meal, we ate at the Shepherd’s House in Americus with 28

club members attending. Several members played golf and we played Bean Bag Baseball on Wednesday and Thursday. Team

Blue won both games. Lots of hand and foot and other games were played during the week. Since our club won first place in

Beanbag Baseball competition at the Samboree in September, we will have to practice a lot between now and next April so we

can defend our championship.

Chapter 33 - Yargo Sams

In August you would have found Yargo at Holiday Travel Park in Chattanooga, TN. Our host, Christine Logan, decided

the women needed a break and we went out to eat both Friday and Saturday nights. Food was very good at both places

and enjoyed by all. Some folks went to nearby flea market.

In September, Yargo was at the Samboree. We only had a few rigs however we all enjoyed the Samboree. Everyone did

lots of shopping with the vendors and entertainment was good.

In October you would have found Yargo at Twin Oaks in Elko, GA. Jimmy & Fran Hancock visited with us at this

campout. We hope they will join our chapter. We went out to eat at the Carriage House on Friday night. Some of the folks

went to the Fair which was at the Perry Fairgrounds and some went to the flea market. We had soup, salad and dessert for

the covered dish on Saturday night.

Chapter 10 – 10kt Gold Travelin’ Sams

In August, we had a wonderful time at DeSoto State Park in Alabama. It was a little rainy but we got to do some exploring

of the area. We met up, once again, with the D.O.G.s (Dutch Oven Guys) and shared a delicious meal cooked, of course,

entirely in Dutch Ovens.

September we were in Perry at the Fall Samboree. We all enjoyed the seminars and games. We were in charge of the

Presidents’ Breakfast and had a great time cooking sausage and pancakes.

For our October trip we traveled to Murphy, NC to the Peace Valley Campground. We found many exciting and varied

things to do there. Many of us went on parts of the river walk which is an easy gravel walk right along the river. You can

make it longer or shorter so it is ideal for everyone. We also found shopping in town and at the local flea markets. The

new casino had opened in September and, of course, many of us had to try our luck there. We didn’t have any big winners

but no big losers either. On Saturday, the annual Punkin’ Chunkin’ festival was not far and many of us attended, browsing

the arts and crafts, eating some fair food and watching as groups used homemade catapults to chunk the pumpkins.

Next month we are looking forward to a trip to Pine Mountain.

Chapter 11 - Yosemite Sams

August we went to River Country in Alabama. There were lots of day trips to see the falls, Breakfast of pancakes and all the

trimmings were furnished. Everyone got more than enough to eat. Saturday night we went to Top of The River for dinner and

had some great catfish. The heat was still with us, so we spent a good bit of time in the rec. room playing games and just

visiting.

September, we were at the Fall Samboree. It was another great one and everyone enjoyed all the entertainment and fellowship.

October, we just got back from Leisure Acres in Cleveland. We did a day trip to Helen and managed to get there before the

crowd. Everyone visited the candy store and came out with lots of treats. A hot dog cookout was the fare for Saturday night and

we had all the good stuff that makes them so good, chili, slaw, onions, sauerkraut and relish, then there were bean soup, potato

salad, coconut cake, apple pie with ice cream and so much more I can't even remember.

We've had a busy summer and are really enjoying the cooler weather and camp fires.

Chapter 12 – Happy Hearts Sams

CAMPING ON THE RIVER WAS GREAT IN AUGUST - RIVERBEND at Hiawassee was the place for the Happy

Hearts....we had eleven rigs present. We had lots of food, fun and frolicking. Riverbend provided fish and hush puppies on

Thursday evening. We went to Rib Country late Friday afternoon. We had our host’s meal on Saturday evening and had

various homemade ice creams. We elected Tommy Sanders as the new President and Sharon Graham as the new

Secretary-Treasurer for 2016/2017.

FAVORITE SPORTS TEAM WAS THE THEME FOR THE FALL SAMBOREE - What an awesome theme....majority

rules....GO DAWGS! We had nine members present and a good time was had by all. We played bean bag baseball, served

donuts and participated in the flea market. We donated thirty-three blankets to Project Linus. We enjoyed meals at the

Swanson House and the Oil Lamp in Perry. Thanks to Rick and Louise and all of the State Staff for another awesome

Samboree!

OCTOBER CAMPOUT WAS AT THE BRICKYARD PLANTATION RV PARK IN AMERICUS....a few signs of

FALL were present....leaves coloring and cooler mornings and evenings but we were invaded by gnats many times

throughout the warm days. We had six members/couples present with hosting done by Bob & Barbara Cooley and Pete &

Linda Fleming. Meal provided by our hosts was fried fish, onion rings, fries and hush puppies with many sides & desserts.

We went to the Station in Americus on Friday night.

Chapter 13 – Lucky 13 Sams

Aug 20 - 23, 2015 Yonah Mountain Campground in Cleveland, GA - Many Lucky 13 Sam campers (“Friends/Former

Chapter Members) arrived early for the August Campout at Yonah Mountain. We gathered for several meals, pitching in

food for all. Many took excursions in the area; i.e. travel to Helen for shopping, visiting other attractions, etc. We also

played Joker (various rules, including Renegade and Yonah Mountain Rules). All had a great time.

Sep 10-13, 2015 (Early Bird Sep 8 & 9) Georgia’s Fall 2015 Samboree “Favorite Sports Team” in Perry, GA –

Campers began arriving Tues, Sep 8, 2015 to get an early start. Many attended the various seminars/classes (health and

RV oriented), and games. This is the first year in a long time our chapter only won one (1) cake in the “Cake Walk”.

Some of our chapter members were winners for door prizes, Samgo and the Chinese Auction. A few participated in the

“Jewelry Making Class” as well. Chapter 13 Sams picked up two (2) new member rigs.

Special Prayers were offered for Jarrett Knight and his family, who was critically ill.

Jarrett Knight passed September 15, 2015

Oct 15 - 18, 2015 Lake Pines Campground & RV Park, Columbus, GA - In October, we found ourselves back in

Columbus, GA. We spent some time getting to know some of our new camping members by teaching and/or refresh our

new members with games of Joker and Shanghai Rummy. We explored The City of Columbus restaurants (like Marc’s

City Grill and Rose Hill Seafood Restaurant), the flea markets and other specialty sites. Rex Shirling gave a tour of the

Iron Works and of downtown Columbus. Cookouts also happened. All had a great time.

Chapter 15 - Good Sams with Mini-Sams

It was a great time for all at the GA Fall Samboree and sporting our Favorite Sports paraphernalia! It gave all of us a

chance to get together and camp, chat, play games, and just plain have fun! From our communal meal; to making Linus

Blankets; to decorating our table (we won 2nd

place!); to playing cards, Samgo, and Bean Bag Baseball; to enjoying the

Mini-Sams Zone activities; to movie nights...it never gets old. Love, love, love these families!!

Two weeks later we found ourselves at Wildwood Park, in Appling, GA. What a beautiful park!! We were right on the

lake, so the Mini-Sams got to fish, and play on the beach! While some of us went hiking for a couple of hours, others took

long walks around the park, and others simply relaxed. Pizza was on the menu for dinner and boy was it good! But in the

end, the highlight of the trip was the all-out war of water balloons! The Mini-Sams were soaked from head to toe!

Memories…..

We can’t wait until our next campout…and the next GA Good Sam Spring RV Rally in April 2016!!! Watch out for the

Pink Ladies and the Boys in Black!!! Lots of great fun will be had, so invite and bring your children, grandchildren, and

great-grandchildren and meet us at the “Mini-Sams Zone!!” Upcoming Chapter Campout: Snow Mountain at Stone

Mountain, Jan 15-18, 2016.

If you camp with your children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren, and are interested in joining our chapter, don’t

Chapter 19 – Singing Sams

Happy Fall from the Singing Sams! We have enjoyed 2 campouts since the last newsletter with the Fall Samboree in

between. August 21-23 we were in Indian Springs State Park in Flovilla, GA. Tom Petrie was our host. There was a big

turn out with 12 rigs. Dinner Friday night was at the famous Fresh Air BBQ in Jackson, GA. We were joined by the

Crosbys. Linda looked great. We thank God they were able to come & we got a visit. Also, 3 more couples in our group

dropped in over the weekend. Both evenings we enjoyed conversation, laughter, games, & handiwork at the pavilion.

Saturday morning many of us played putt putt at the park on a wet course because of rainy weather. Tom recommended

Mesquite, a great Mexican restaurant in Jackson. We ate & walked around a little before heading back. In the afternoon

we met at the pavilion again to work on Christmas cards for our Vets. At 6 we congregated there again for a bring your

own supper. We hung out & visited until bedtime. Sunday morning it was drizzling. We met at the Pavilion at 9:30. Mike

Barnwell led us in a devotional. Prayer requests were shared. We have some serious needs in our group. So grateful for

praying friends. The sky fell before we were through. We tried to wait it out, but it didn't look like it was stopping any

time soon. We said our goodbyes & made a dash for our rigs to head home.

The main event in September for Chapter 19 was the Fall Samboree in Perry, GA. There were 13 rigs from our group that

got to attend. Thanks to Rick & Louise for all you did to make this a Fall highlight in Georgia for folks coming from all

over! As always, you did a great job!

High Falls State Park in Jackson, GA was our October 16-18 campout. Mark & Gina Spillers were our hosts. We had 7

rigs camping, but enjoyed lots of drop ins. Nine folks joined us for dinner at High Falls Restaurant Friday night. We had

great food & fun conversation. The evening had gotten cool so we enjoyed visiting around a campfire at the Spiller's site.

We sat out for hours bundled up under a beautiful starry sky with a crescent moon. Seven from our group joined us before

heading home. Saturday morning started out chilly with lots of sunshine. By lunch it warmed up to a beautiful Fall day.

Barry & Sandy stopped by for a quick visit on their way home from Hiawassee, GA. Some of the ladies ventured to

Furniture Liquidation in Forsyth for a bit. The rest enjoyed visiting, joker, taking walks, & just relaxing. At 5:30 we met

for dinner at the Host site. BBQ, wings, Brunswick stew, lots of delicious sides, & desserts. Three of our group joined us

for the campfire that night. It was another cold, clear night. Perfect for visiting around a fire. Gina added Pixie dust that

turned the flames different colors. We again stayed for hours of talk & laughter. Sunday morning 11 of us met in the Pyles

rig for a devotional led by Don. We shared prayer requests for us & others in our group. Still many needs in our Chapter,

but God is able to meet them all. It was a perfect ending to a wonderful weekend.

Chapter 22 – Free Wheeling Sams

AUGUST 2015 – RIVER VISTA MOUNTAIN VILLAGE, Dillard, Georgia: Ten (10) member rigs attended the

Chapter’s August 27-30 campout. On-your-own activities included area stores, flea markets, restaurants, and exploring

Highlands, North Carolina, and surrounding areas. A potluck supper was held on Thursday; and, on Friday, a lasagna

supper was provided by the campout hosts (Melvin & Nancy Barber assisted by Culver & Dot Johnson and Judy Mix). A

scavenger hunt encouraged the attendees to meet other campers; and, the winner won with a surprisingly hard to find a

book of matches! Campout activities ended Saturday evening with dinner at the Cupboard Café where the Chapter’s

business meeting was held.

SEPTEMBER 2015 – GEORGIA GOOD SAM SAMBOREE/RALLY, Perry, Georgia: Thirteen (13) member rigs

attended the Fall Samboree/Rally, September 10-13. Once again, everyone enjoyed meeting and welcoming first-timers;

seeing old friends and making new ones; the vendors, seminars, food, entertainment, games, flea market, and the chance

of winning prizes. For the second time this year, the Chapter won the table decorations contest by creating their own

Favorite Sports Team, The Free Wheeling Sams ‘Bean Baggers’ – a ‘democratic’ favorite team of bean bag baseball

players! Appropriately, the Samboree/Rally’s bean bag tournament’s second place team was mostly members of The Free

Wheeling Sams!

OCTOBER 2015 – McKINNEY CAMPGROUND, Acworth, Georgia: The Free Wheeling Sams planned well ahead to

reserve an area of this Corps of Engineers campground on Lake Allatoona for its last-of-season, October 22-25, campout

that was attended by ten (10) member rigs and two (2) guest rigs. Planned activities included visiting the Booth Western

Art Museum in Cartersville, Georgia, and the Redtop Mountain State Park’s Halloween Hayride. Unplanned activities

included fishing and boat rides. After Saturday’s dinner at Gabriel’s (Old Mill) Restaurant, in downtown Acworth,

Georgia, some walked down Main Street to the Halloween Classic Car Cruise—bringing back memories of those cars we

or our parents had and wishing we had them now! Unfortunately, the hosts for this event (Don & Fran Thomas) were in

Ohio for a funeral; but, because of their well-planned event, the attendees were able to carry on.

NOVEMBER-DECEMBER 2015 SCHEDULE: The 2015 season will end with chapter luncheons in November and

December: November 19 at O’Charley’s in Kennesaw, Georgia; and, December 10 at Sidelines Grille in Canton, Georgia.

Chapter 23 - Golden Eagles Good Sams

In Memory of our dear friend Tish Wallace Red was Tish's favorite color and symbolizes our hearts grieving for our loss. A thoughtful friend, she was always there to

listen to you. She loved cooking for everyone. Tish was the anchor to our group and was dearly loved. She is be sorely

missed by the entire group. (written by Fran Wooley)

The September 2015 Scenic Hills RV in Berlin, Ohio. Sheila and Bill Goff were the wagon masters, we had 12 couples

attending and staying for a week. We started out at the Beholt Amish and Mennonite Museum. After learning about the

Amish. We then went to Yoder's Amish Farm and Home tour. Our lunch trip was to the Mrs.Yoder's restaurant. Each day

we traveled over the twisting and winding beautiful country side. We visited the Guggisberg Cheese Factory, Der

Dutchman Restaurant, Warther Museum, Hershberger's Farm Market, where the biggest horse in Ohio lives and many

more places. We all ate too much but we had a wonderful week.

The October KOA Cartersville, GA. The wagon masters were David and Karen Thomas and with 5 rigs attending. We

went to The History Museum and the Western Museum. Cartersville has a wealth of things to see.

Page 10: Of the GA-GOOD SAM NEWS...Sowega Sams Chapter 3 October campout was held at the Brickyard Plantation RV Park in Americus, Ga. We had 14 rigs We had 14 rigs attending with Wendell and

Chapter 27 – Coastal Sams

Coastal Sams gathered at KOA in Richmond Hill for our August campout. We had eleven rigs that spent the week-end,

while seven other couples joined us for our business meeting and covered dish dinner. We were happy to have our

president and wife back from an extended cross-country adventure. We enjoyed our favorite pastime of just sitting around

and visiting with each other with fairly good weather since most of the rain was at night while we were sleeping. We

experienced barbeque at a local establishment on one occasion and supped at a country buffet on another evening. Our

covered dish dinner this time was all salads, ranging from simple fruit salads to complex veggie and meat combinations.

And, of course, ending with those scrumptious desserts that our ladies (and guys) delight in preparing for us. The elegant

swans on the lake were an added enjoyment as we watched them cruise the water.

September found us, as with many others, at the Fall Rally in Perry. We had nine rigs present and one visitor who

subsequently joined our chapter. This was, indeed, a good rally and our bean bag baseball team reported having such a fun

time – even though they were heartily defeated.

As of this writing we have just returned from our October campout at Hilton Head Harbor RV Resort, and as always, we

had a great time there. The weather was fantastic with cool mornings and evenings and warm mid-days. Not a hint of the

rains that were to come later. As you can tell from our reporting, we enjoy visiting and eating, and this time was no

exception. Area seafood was deliciously prepared for all our seafood enthusiasts and since we had a local couple present,

they knew just the right places for us to sample it. Did I say, “sample”? As you can guess, we did much more than sample.

This was the sort of week-end that seems to just fly by.

Chapter 36 - SAMetro Sams

August 2015 - Wagon Masters Gene and Kitty Eckert took the Chapter to Tom Johnson Campground in Marion, NC

(August 3-6). We had a great turnout with 7 Chapter rigs in attendance. Everyone had a fantastic time exploring the

surrounding areas and visiting the sites. As always, Project Linus was premier on our Agenda, as we happily and lovingly

fashioned blanket “HUGS” for at risk children!

SEPTEMBER 2015 - Fall Samboree 2015 (September 10-13) was a huge success! We had 11 Chapter rigs in attendance,

plus our honored guests and newest SAMetro Chapter Members, Phillip & Cheryl Leeper! How exciting that they have

chosen to join our happy camping family! Wagon Masters Carl & Linda Leix did an excellent job planning our delicious

community meals! I KNOW everyone had a GREAT time at the Samboree! The theme was “Favorite Sports Team” and

we ALL hit a homerun, or scored a touchdown with our festive attire! Some of us even “sported” tattoos of our favorite

teams!!! Our Chapter Members were busy bees at this Samboree! Everyone actively participated with Stage Decorating,

Hospitality, Flea Market, Project Linus, table Decorations and Tram Driving.

OCTOBER 2015 - The wrath of Mother Nature has been unkind and furious to South Carolina and the surrounding

states! The unrelenting storm, forced a State of Emergency in South Carolina as officials grappled with massive flooding

following DAYS of historic rains! Our October Chapter outing (October 5-9) was scheduled to be at the Lakewood

Campground in Myrtle Beach, SC, but was canceled due to all of the turbulent and unsettling weather. Those of us who

had planned to attend, decided that it was just too risky, and we were unwilling to place ourselves and others in harm’s

way and erred on the side of caution!

Page 11: Of the GA-GOOD SAM NEWS...Sowega Sams Chapter 3 October campout was held at the Brickyard Plantation RV Park in Americus, Ga. We had 14 rigs We had 14 rigs attending with Wendell and

Chapter 37 – King of the Road Sams

Our Chapter camped at Coastal RV Park in Brunswick, Georgia August 4-6. Gene and Sandra Seago were the month's

host. We drove to St. Simons for a seafood dinner and enjoyed the night life at the beach. One afternoon we grilled hot

dogs and hamburger with all the trimmings. We all enjoyed the food, fun, and fellowship. By the end of the campout we

all knew more about each other.

October 27-31 our camp out was hosted by Ivey and Linda Plair at Sloppy Floyd State Park in Summerville, Georgia.

Members helped spruce up the park for the Halloween weekend. The park and most of sites were decorated for

Halloween. Children from the local area and campground were invited to Treat or Trick in the park. Friday night we all

went into town to Brickhouse Pizza for dinner. Saturday morning several couples went to Cloudland Canyon park to hike

the trails and view the beautiful fall creations. After treating the kids in their Halloween costumes we all had hot dogs,

chili, cornbread and blueberry cobbler and ice cream. The campout was a fun filled weekend, even the rain was not

enough to spoil the weekend.

Gene and Sandra Seago will host our Christmas party at their home on December 11. Plans are not complete for our

Christmas project.

It has been a short year and we look forward to an action packed year in 2016.
