The Sanctuary Lamp Is Burning This Week

October 5, - October 11, for

Today  our  readings  are  about  faith,  frustra-on,  and  how  much  is  enough.  Habakkuk  is  a

complainer having an argument with God. Timo-thy  is  encouraging  a  community  challenged  by cowardice  and  the  apostles  want  more  faith than  they  have.  Things  aren’t  happening  fast enough  for  any  of  them  or  for  us.  All  of  them and  we  want  God  to  do  something  sooner  ra-ther  than  later  and  we  want  God  to  give  us  a reason to believe that  it will all work out. What does  God  do?  God  puts  it  back  on  them—and us—telling  Habakkuk  to  describe  the  world  he wants; telling the apostles to do more than the expected.  Doing  more  with  less  is  a  familiar phrase  today  and  a  reminder  that  a  li le  faith may be enough even for the most difficult  mes.

WHAT IS YOUR MULBERRY TREE? We often limit what we believe we are capable of, rather than trusting that God will guide and strengthen us to do what we are called to do. A familiar phrase captures this sentiment: “God does not call the equipped but equips the called.” Uprooting a mulberry tree may seem impossible. So, at times, may living as a Christian in the world. What is your mulberry tree today? What situation needs you to take a leap of faith in order to respond in Christ’s name? With faith and through the presence of the Holy Spirit, there is no limit to what we can do as Christian disciples.
