Just Between Us Father Tom Honold

This weekend is a time of transition in the Church’s liturgical cycle. The weekend litur-gy highlights the Baptism of Jesus. It signi-fies the end of the Christmas Season and the

beginning of Ordinary Time. Ordinary Time in the Church helps us reflect on how our ordinary, everyday lives become extraordinary examples of living life as a Christian disciple. This year, Ordinary Time extends from January 11 until the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday, February 10. (Yes. Lent begins early this year!) Ordinary Time resumes again after the Easter Sea-son which ends on May 16, the day following Pentecost. We welcome back all of the students in our Faith Formation Ministry. During the next few months, my goal is to involve parents and teachers in planning the next school year’s Faith Formation Program. My leadership style preference is a collaborative ministry and I would like as many as possi-ble to have their input into decisions being made. It is im-portant to listen to each other and form a consensus on how to proceed. So for Grades K-5 Faith Formation, I asked Sr. Martha to schedule a meeting for all the teachers and, at least 2 par-ents from each grade, K-5. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, January 13 at 7:00 pm in the Church Hall. Any parent who wishes to become involved should talk with Sr. Martha or their child’s teacher. (If there are more than 2 parents from each grade who wish to attend, that is great. I would be delighted to have many parents attend). For Grades 6-10 Faith Formation, Mrs. Kathy Seiselmyer is taking a slightly different approach to collaborative plan-ning. Tonight, parents, students, and, if available, sponsors of the students who will be making their Confirmation will be attending a special Mass in the Church, followed by a planning meeting. Later this year, we will be repeating the process for the 6th and 7th grade students and also for the 8th and 9th grade students. Each group will be invited to celebrate Mass as a family and attend a parent/student meeting afterwards. Also, you have perhaps noticed that we are starting to use altar servers at Mass. Any boy or girl who has made their First Communion is invited. All the person has to do is come to the sacristy about 15 minutes before Mass so that they can put on an Alb and receive some on-the-job train-ing. At least for a while, there is no formal schedule; just come to the sacristy. (Parents are also invited to come to the sacristy with their child.) Thank you for your generosity. Our Christmas collection was slightly higher this year. Collection 2014 = $14,767; 2015 = $15,151 God bless you!
