This 2,300 acre county park has a pristine mountain lake and 1,900 acres of hardwood forest. It opened in the late 60’s as a family place for fun and entertainment and has retained its rustic charm over the years with many upgrades. It’s a wonderful location to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Open May to October, campsites and RV park sites book up quickly in season. Reserve one today for your trip! Cabins are now open year round so you can plan a winter vacation for your family.

You will be astounded when you enter the state’s premier artisan center with the finest textiles, jewelry, art, glass and pottery—plus woodwork and many other handcrafted items.

Little Beaver State Parklittlebeaverstatepark.com A 562-acre park for outdoor recreation. Fishing is year round at the lake. Many types of fish, such as bass, crappie, channel cat, bluegill and trout can be found in the 18-acre lake. Paddle boats, canoes, row boats and kayaks rentals are available in season. All trails are open for both hiking and biking.

There is a 46-site campground, thirty of which are available on a first come basis. These sites have water and electric. The park also has five picnic shelters which can be rented, playgrounds, geocaching, and an activities building.

Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine beckley.org/general-information-coal-mineGuests can ride through the dark passages of a vintage coal mine onboard a “man-trip” for the tour and travel 1,500 feet around various mined out areas. Veteran guides give an overview of the Mine and history of coal mining in our region.

In addition to the Mine, you can tour the period coal camp buildings situated throughout the grounds. Lovingly restored, the Coal Company House, Superintendent’s Home, Pemberton Coal Camp Church, and the Helen Coal Camp School, give visitors a true representation of early 20th century coal camp life. The Exhibition Coal Mine operates on a seasonal schedule, opening on April 1 and closing November 1.

Wildwood House Museum beckley.org/wildwood-house-museumThe historic home of Beckley’s founder, General Alfred Beckley, is on the National Register of Historic Places. This log structure has been lovingly restored and filled with period antiques, many owned by the family of General Alfred Beckley. Wildwood House plays a significant part in early Raleigh County history.

This 2016 Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence winner is open in the summer months for tours, and can also be booked for special tours and occasions in other seasons.

Four railroad boxcars make up the main gallery with ever changing educational exhibits. A “Peace Totem” welcomes you to the site.

The Mountain Homestead is a typical settlement from the Appalachian frontier days. Visit the weaver’s shed, log house, one room school, barn, blacksmith shop and general store for a trip through history you will not soon forget.
