“An Evening with Terry Riley and NMW” is the centerpiece of our 40th season, and in and of itself a cause for celebration. It will also be Groundhog Day!
From his pioneering work in the 1960s with repetitive structures that came to be known as minimalism, to his ongoing explorations of classical Indian music techniques and concepts, Terry Riley’s creative arch straddles 20th and 21st centuries and his accomplishments eclipse categories and continents. On February 2 Terry will perform a piano and voice set, and also oversee preparations of several of his works. For our continued honoring of Frederic Rzewski’s 80th birthday, percussionist Jim Kassis performs the composer’s To the Earth. Eighteen year old Alice Jen makes her NMW debut with Sarah Cahill, premiering Phil Collins’ going places.
