Finance Report -Statement of Accounts & Balance Sheet

Mr W Hore tabled the finance report, Statement of Accounts & Balance Sheet, copies having been circulated. He moved their adoption; Seconded R Freer.

He expanded on the contents of the financial report, commenting that the small deficit ($2034) was acceptable to the Board and it had been expected that the result could eat into some $20k of reserves. The fact that the deficit was well below the expected result is thanks to the exceptional efforts of our volunteers.

NZ Golf had undertaken a comparison of levies and funds held within the 14 Districts and Otago had come out favourably on both counts. In particular the levy figure was the second lowest in the country.

He outlined the various “outside funding” that was obtained annually, in particular to cover the GDM’s role, and that funding tended to go unnoticed as it was not recorded in the Golf Otago accounts. The funding of some $72,000 was mostly obtained with assistance from Sport Otago via Sport NZ and The Otago Community Trust.

All NZ Golf funding is currently under treat and the 2014 budget allows for a considerable deficit. This is manageable from reserves for 2014, but some very difficult decisions may have to be faced before the 2015 financial year.

There being no further discussion, the motion to adopt the 2014 financial papers was put to the meeting and; Carried

Golf Development Managers Report:

Michael Smith presented a brief, but comprehensive, power-point report on his activities for 2013. It had been a busy year with the introduction of the Partner Club program by NZ Golf and added Junior Development initiatives.

The number of juniors, engaged in all stages of development programs, were greatly increased in 2013 and junior membership stats showed an increase for the first time in seven years. At age group representative level, players from right across the province were being selected, and performing, in Otago teams.

The central ongoing issue that must be addressed is the registration of every junior golfer that takes part in club or district based activities. Those membership stats are the factor that NZ Golf and Sport NZ use as the “yardstick” to measure success or failure of programs

Michael asked those delegates present, “Is junior and representative golf important to us”?

At the conclusion of the presentation, Mr W Jamieson asked that consideration be given, later in 2014, to the reinstatement of the annual summer junior training camps.

The report of the CoachForce GDM, as presented was received : on the motion of S Shaw, seconded K Shaw

Annual levy.

The Board had resolved to recommend that there be no change to the levy amounts for 2014.

W Hore advised that the current levies income would mean a deficit budget for 2014, but that was acceptable and allowance had been made to lower the current level of funds held. The issue would require a careful review before the 2015 AGM.

GOLF OTAGO INCORPORATED

REPORT & FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31/12/14

We are pleased to present the Financial Statements for the past 12 months.

As advised at last year’s AGM our budget indicated a possible deficit of $20,000 due to all

major tournaments being held in the North Island. However, yet again, thanks to the frugality

and firm control by team managers, players and your Board a reduced deficit of $9,650 was

achieved. The Board is pleased with this result as it includes a late call to send a junior boy’s

team to the National Under 19 Boys Inter-provincial, where they performed very creditably

gaining 4th place.

After adjustments for accruals and GST our net funds position reduced from $194,846 in

2013 to $185,196 as at 31/12/2014. Net costs can be summarised as follows; Senior men

$31,431 ($28,895), Senior women $21,893 ($13,673), Juniors $16,381 ($9,648),

Administration $11,3090 ($128,771). Net income $173,145 ($178,953).

A small adjustment was made to clear the Junior Network account which has now been

closed. A review of our accounts since amalgamation highlights reductions of $7,000 in

levies and $15,000 in contributions from New Zealand Golf. Despite an increase of $10,000

in our top up to Sport Otago for the Golf Development Manager and an increase of $13,000

in the cost of all golf activities, our overall administration expenses have only increased

marginally over the four years.

Contributions from New Zealand Golf in respect of our involvement in National events have

ceased altogether. We are advised that the $25,000 funding for the GDM is secure for 2015.

We await the outcome of negotiations taking place with NZ Golf in respect of the GDM’s

future in light of their proposed Community Golf Plan for our region and the introduction of

regional “Club Capability Managers”.

Our budget for 2015 indicates a shortfall of $7000 after allowing for a $2 increase in levies

and a possible contribution of $14,000 from various fund raising activities. Close control of

all our financial activities will be necessary and the need to review funding of local events,

requiring a contribution from representative players and excluding some

interprovincial/national fixtures may need consideration.

Sponsorship/Grants are well nigh impossible to access. We are grateful for the ongoing

support from Mr Russell Jones and Greg Turner of the Otago Golf Academy. These

contributions are allocated to Junior Golf and player development. We appreciate the

involvement of NZ Golf, Sport NZ and the Otago Community Trust in providing $25,000

each to Sport Otago to cover the Golf Development Manager position. Our thanks to

Speights for assisting with uniforms. Bridgestone Golf (Brittain Wynyard Ltd) has favoured

us with a three year generous sponsorship agreement to provide a full range of equipment

for our representative teams. This replaces the previous three-year contract with Srixon,

which expired in 2014.

Fortunately, the Association is in a strong financial position with adequate cash reserves and

we can move forward with confidence. Our thanks to Doug for his enthusiasm and

commitment to the Executive Officer role.

GOLF OTAGO INC - PRESIDENTS REPORT 2015 It is my pleasure to present to you all my report. Firstly I must thank you all here today for your contribution to golf in Otago. Golf in Otago is flourishing, compared to many other districts, due to the effort put in by many people. The board representatives representing your areas keep us well informed of what’s happening in the regions and any issues are dealt with promptly. Fortunately there haven’t been many of them. That “P “word (pennants) has been debated numerous times, particularly what format the women should have for their final. Hopefully it’s all sorted, with one representative team coming from each Sub-Association. To get fixtures representatives from Metro Women and South Otago Women has been difficult this year but competent and enthusiastic people are now in place. The fixtures convenors from each Sub-Association are responsible for the inter district competitions we have. I would like to acknowledge the huge commitment all selectors give to Otago to enable us to have representative teams competing at all levels. Selectors have to make some difficult decisions at times. We are terribly proud of some of the results, in particular the men’s Toro team. The 2nd placing in Hamilton was a credit to all involved as this doesn’t happen without sacrifices, expense, and many hours of practice. There have been some good individual results from tournaments. The women are in a rebuilding phase which will take time, but with hard work from the players and support from fellow golfers and administrators, Otago women’s teams can again reach a high level of competitiveness. It is pleasing that there are junior girl’s finally coming through the ranks, to strengthen the teams in the future. Our Course rating teams, led by Dale Dagg and Warren Jamieson have continued to work hard throughout 2014 to catch up on a backlog of courses overdue for re-rating. New team members have been found in most sub-areas and Phil Aikin, from NZ Golf has assisted us by providing training for these new members and a refresher course for the established raters. I thank these dedicated volunteers for the excellent work they perform. There are 48 clubs in Otago, but with multiple tees and many clubs requiring men’s and women’s ratings from various tee blocks, the total number of courses requiring attention is in excess of 200. Each set of tees requires a separate set of measurements and assessments for men and women players and the overall workload is no small task. Our G.D.M, Michael Smith ( Moxy to many), has made a huge impact increasing junior participation, membership and development of players in our region. He has made himself available to clubs and schools in our districts, many of which have responded and have programs in place. We are the envy of all NZ Golf’s Districts because of his, and Sport Otago’s, contribution to making our development program so successful. We are so lucky to have this partnership with our Regional Sports Trust (Sport Otago). Nine hole golf membership has increased, both men and women. This is competition that keeps people playing, who might otherwise retire from golf, and provides a learning facility for new comers to the sport.

Page 8: OF GOLF OTAGO (INC.) Will be held in the clubhouse of The ... · NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. THE 68th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF GOLF OTAGO (INC.) Will be held in the clubhouse

Another person we are fortunate to have assisting Golf Otago is Bill Trewern with his regular reports in the Otago Daily Times and oversight of teams, of all age groups, travelling to tournaments. A first in N.Z. was the formation of the Wakatipu Junior Golf Club. What a great initiative. These golfers are privileged to have such an exclusive club. We wish them success and fully support this concept that has put junior players at the forefront of golf in the Central Otago region. I have travelled to many clubs this year and was very impressed with the appearance of the courses in a challenging climate. Greens staff have worked extremely hard to achieve this. A vital component for Golf Otago is the sponsorship we receive from Russell Jones, Greg Turner (Greg Turner Tour-Junior Order of Merit) , the Otago Community Trust and Sport NZ (GDM Role) and Speights (Senior Men’s teams uniform) . A huge thank you to them. 2014 was not an easy year financially with N.Z golf withdrawing funding, part way through the year, when budgets were fixed. We have endeavored to run within our budget, which did allow for a deficit and a reduction of funds held. Bill Hore and Doug Harradine have put many hours into the fiscal operations of Golf Otago, sharpening their pencil on several occasions as you will hear in the financial report. Golf Otago is extremely fortunate to have Doug Harradine as our C.E.O. He has many issues to deal with that are solved before we hear about them. We thank Joan and Doug for the use of their house as his office, without a cost to Golf Otago. Lastly I would like to thank the Board members for their huge input to the running of Golf Otago. These members give their time and travel extensively without being a cost to Otago Golf. There has been a great atmosphere and a “can do” attitude at meetings and we all have pleasure in being your representatives. I am sure it will continue next year on your behalf. I wish everyone all the best for 2015. Judy Muir President Golf Otago Incorporated

REPORT OF CHIEF EXECUTIVE FOR YEAR ENDING 31 DECEMBER 2014

I am pleased to submit my report on the activities of Golf Otago Inc, for the year ended 31/12/2014.

BOARD & ADMINISTRATION There was one change of Director ratified at the AGM of Golf Otago, held at Lower Waitaki GC on the 12th of April 2014. Long serving Metro Women’s member, Glenys Rowley was replaced by sally Shaw. Glenys was bestowed with Life membership of Golf Otago, in recognition of her many years of service to Women’s Golf in the province.

Your Directors worked hard, on your behalf, in 2014 and have provided steady governance through what has, and looks likely to continue to be, confusing and challenging times.

Bill Hore’s financial report, along with the annual accounts, confirms a deficit for the year ended 31 December 2014. This was budgeted for and the end result was, in fact, considerably better than expected, thanks again to the efforts of many in keeping expenditure in check.

The Course rating teams continued their good work in 2014 and, with a few exceptions, have caught up on the backlog of courses overdue for re-rating.

Sub-Association members covered the many roles required to administer our sport throughout Otago in 2014. The commitment of these people and their unswerving dedication to the game ensured that events were run competently and the administrative matters, often unseen by the majority of golfers, were handled with due care and expertise.

I sincerely thank administrators at sub-association and club level for your support in 2014 and the on-going hard work you put into this wonderful game.

NEW ZEALAND GOLF & DISTRICTS New Zealand Golf’s on-going change of focus to the “whole of sport” model sees the organisation stretching the gap between the national administration and the grass roots of the game ever wider. Otago, like all NZ districts has struggled to remain bonded with the national organisation as they strip funding from the base of the sport to support an ever expanding, centralised, administrative body.

At year end 2014, NZ Golf had a total of 22 full time staff, as well as contractual arrangements with Par Golf NZ, to run several national tournaments. The salary account for 2014 has yet to be published, but is expected to be in the region of $1.4million. The costs associated with the contracted events are unknown and deemed “commercially sensitive”.

To help cover these increasing costs, NZ Golf has ceased all funding assistance to Districts for travel to national events and withdrawn support for junior development programs and tournaments. The cuts were landed on us some four months into the 2014 financial year and without any consultation. For several North Island provinces, this has meant the removal of the Golf Development Managers and disestablishment of junior golf programs. NZG has suggested all junior development revert to club based models.

For 2015 at least, NZG will continue to fund our GDM role and have undertaken to discuss a proposal for Sport Otago/Sport Southland to supply the Club capability role, on a contracted basis. Canterbury is also in discussion with NZG, along similar lines, to cover the CCM role in the upper South Island region.

The withdrawal of funding for tournament travel will have a considerably more detrimental effect on Otago than it will on the cluster of provinces around the Auckland region. Men’s and Women’s interprovincial tournaments are scheduled on the basis of a rota of two in the North Island, followed by one in the South. Over the 14 year cycle around the Districts, Otago’s travel costs (conservatively) will be some $40,000 more than Auckland’s. All South Island provinces have joined us in registering a strong protest at this inequitable situation and suggesting that some form of travel equalisation scheme must surely be put in place.

Two NZG initiatives, aimed at increasing membership and participation, were promoted heavily throughout 2014. The “Love Golf” campaign is certainly a high profile promotion of our sport and the concept received widespread approval from District Associations and clubs. The same can be said for the “Casual Golfer Registration” scheme, set up to gather in the huge non-member/casual player section of golfers. Unfortunately, the substance of both programs fell somewhat short of the hype that was presented at various road-shows around the provinces. Although the Love Golf concept continues to deliver some excellent promotion on the life-long nature of golf as a recreational pursuit, the direct benefits to individual clubs has proved minimal and less than 20% of New Zealand’s clubs have joined the scheme.

From the outset, NZ Golf have acknowledged that both promotions held little in the way of direct benefits to smaller clubs and were aimed at the large metropolitan operations. As we all know, New Zealand club golf is predominantly made up of small clubs, many in rural areas.

Page 10: OF GOLF OTAGO (INC.) Will be held in the clubhouse of The ... · NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. THE 68th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF GOLF OTAGO (INC.) Will be held in the clubhouse

CLUB MEMBERSHIP: Membership statistics for 2014 indicate a decline, nationally of about 2%. This follows a very slight nationwide increase in 2013 and is a matter of concern, given NZ Golf’s attempts to stimulate membership through the “Love Golf” campaign and a registration program for “Casual Golfers”. The registration of casual players was aimed at capturing this large section of participants and steering some of them towards regular club membership. Whilst both programs attracted considerable interest when first introduced (particularly “Love Golf”) the general comments towards the end of 2014 were that the promotion of the sport was excellent, but new memberships are not ensuing from the initiatives. Total Otago membership is up by 38 on 2013 figures but “Full” members are down by 132 (95 men & 37 women). The increase has come from “Secondary” membership, effectively ‘Country Members”.

JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT / GOLF DEVELOPMENT MANAGER: There were some giant leaps made in the Junior Development area during 2014 and results recorded by our age group teams serve to confirm that we are on the right path for the future.

Melanie Harper, our long serving Kiwigolf presenter continued her dedicated work with schools in the Metro area, but as a self employed contractor, obtaining her remuneration directly from the schools.

The Greg Turner Tour - Junior Order of Merit was again a great success and we thank Michael Hill and Millbrook for allowing us the use of their world class facilities to run the finals weekend. Greg Turner continued his support, with a grant from his academy trust fund to cover all expenses for the finals weekend.

Without doubt the most exciting development was the formation of the Wakatipu Junior Golf Club. This initiative came from the clubs in the Wakatipu area and they have worked together to form an NZG/Golf Otago fully affiliated club where full membership is restricted to players under 19 years of age. Many other NZ Golf Districts are watching with interest, as indeed are many other sports codes. I salute the selfless stance taken by Queenstown, Arrowtown, Frankton and Millbrook clubs, in relinquishing their junior memberships, and the subscription income, to support the formation of this club, while continuing to extend full playing rights to all members of the Wakatipu JGC. It is a show of unified courage and a firm commitment to the future of golf.

Sport Otago continue to be fully supportive of our efforts in the development of the game and I thank them sincerely for their efforts. In particular, it should be noted that they secured some $52,000 to assist in funding our GDM role in 2014. We could not maintain the GDM position without that funding via Sport NZ and The Otago Community Trust.

It is well worth noting that Otago has recorded an increase in junior membership for 2014, as it did in 2013. Every other NZG District has reported significant falls in junior membership for the past 10 year.

My thanks to Michael (Moxy) Smith for his energy and commitment to get the best from our young players.

REPRESENTATIVE / DISTRICT & NATIONAL EVENTS: The Men’s Toro team in 2014 almost achieved the dream of winning the national Interprovincial title, but Waikato, on their home turf were just one hurdle too high. The Women’s team set out on a rebuilding pathway. This will take time, but there is no shortage of commitment and belief, with some talented young players set to emerge in the next couple of years.

Throughout this report I have acknowledged some individuals and organisations for the support they have shown in 2014. In reality, Golf Otago owes a huge vote of thanks to a very large number of people. From our sponsors, team managers, selectors, sub-association committee people, right through to the members who allow us to interrupt their club golf for provincial fixtures – thank you most sincerely. D G Harradine Chief Executive Officer

OTAGO METRO SUB – ASSOCIATION (WOMEN)

Year ended 31.12.14

I am pleased to present the Annual Report for the Women’s Section of Golf Otago Metro Sub – Association. The pennant competition for 2014 had 7 teams in the Mid-week competition and 7 in the Weekend competition. Rounds where scheduled earlier and closer. The feed back from those playing was positive. Taieri Lakes 1 won the Midweek competition, St Clair the Weekend competition. The final of the Metro pennants was played at Chisholm Park on the 15th June with Taieri Lakes 1 taking honours from St Clair. Taieri Lakes 1 then went on to play Tapanui from South Otago and Dunstan and Waikouaiti from Central in the finals of Golf Otago Women’s Pennants at Cromwell. The Tapanui team was the winner of the title for 2014. The Board of Otago Golf have made the decision that for pennants in 2015 only one team from each Sub Association will go through to the final. This decision has been a long time coming and one the Metro Sub Association agrees with. The Annual General meeting was held in Oamaru at the Lower Waitaki course on 12th April. Metro’s past board Representative, Glenys Rowley, was made a Life Member of Golf Otago. An honor rightly deserved for her years of valued service and support to Women’s golf for the Metro Sub Association. Following the Annual meeting the Sub Association challenge took place. Thank you to the Metro team of Eleanor Newton, Barbara Hawkins, and Jackie Mitchell (Chisholm Park), and Helen Porteous (St Clair). South Otago won the Women’s section. The Sub Association challenge between South Otago and Metro was held on Sunday 8th June with a good representation of Metro Midweek and Weekend players in both the Silver and Bronze Teams. The Metro Silver team made up of Jackie Mitchell, Tamami Sasaki, Rachel Lissaman and Eleanor Newton (Chisholm Park), Annabel Evans (Port Chalmers), Abigail Crawford (St Clair), Tracey Storer (Belleknowes), Rebecca Song and Rowan Greaves (Otago) going on to win 6 games to 4. The Metro Bronze team of Barbara Hawkins (Chisholm Park), Michelle McConnell, Sandy MacDonald, Justine Murrell, Gaye Mackenzie (Otago), Christina Oliver (Belleknowes), Ann Keys, Lynne Jenkins and Jan Butcher (Twelve Oaks) and Sandra Newton (Island Park) losing in a close competition 5 and a half to 4 and a half. The Sub Association challenge between Central and Metro was not held in 2014, this should be something of a worry to both associations as once not fitted into the program they can be lost forever. It then becomes very hard for future committees to reinstate.

Page 12: OF GOLF OTAGO (INC.) Will be held in the clubhouse of The ... · NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. THE 68th ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF GOLF OTAGO (INC.) Will be held in the clubhouse

Maybe earlier in the golf calendar for both Sub Association challenges would be more suitable to all rather than in the winter months as they are presently. I note South Otago and Central play in early March. The Town and Country played at the Otago Golf Club on September 21st. 2014 saw the team reduced from 12 to 10. The format is over 36 holes with foursomes in the morning followed by single matches in the afternoon. The Town team led 3 games to 2 in the morning, going on to win 10 games to 5 in the afternoon. Thank you to the Town Team of Sharon Keith, Susan Greig and Abigail Crawford (St Clair), Tamami Sasaki, Eleanor Newton, Sally Shaw and Rachel Lissaman (Chisholm Park), Annabel Evans (Port Chalmers), Brenda Sutherland (Otago), Tracey Storer (Belleknowes). Congratulations to Sally Shaw and Rachel Lissaman (Chisholm Park), Robyn Chambers and Brenda Sutherland (Otago), Susan Greig and Abigail Crawford (St Clair), Tracey Storer (Belleknowes) and Annabel Evans (Port Chalmers) for inclusion in Otago Golf teams for 2014. 2014 Metropolitan Report to Golf Otago AGM

I would like to thank all the committee members who have given their time and energy to run this sub-association of Golf Otago in the last year. I also like to thank the clubs who have contributed to making the Metro Pennant series a success & congratulate the winning teams. Senior A – Otago Blue / Senior B - Island Park / Intermediate - Port-Chalmers / Junior A – Island Park Blue / Junior B – Port-Chalmers / Presidents grade – Port-Chalmers I would like to acknowledge the effort from the Port-Chalmers Golf Club getting 3 teams to the Provincial finals in their Centennial year also the 2 teams from Island Park. Last year we had issues with the weather with pennants and that has been addressed by playing them earlier in 2015, which has been well received so far. Metro, while organising the competition, cannot dictate to clubs when and where pennants are played and everything is done in cooperation with clubs to fit around course availability and other issues. It great that the communication process put in place this year for cancelling and rescheduling pennants matches seemed to work very well. The Challenge Trophy has moved from Gladfield after 23 defences to Otago for 8 challenges and now rests at Island Park were teams will be trying to lift it. Thanks to Ken Jones & Blair Melrose getting the Course rating team organised. The majority of courses are now up to date in our area. Again, special mention to the Eagles Society for their support, which enabled us to contribute funding to various development initiatives. With their help we managed to assist with the costs of sending four Metro players to the Under 19 National Interprovincial in Hamilton. This is an inter-provincial competition along the lines of the Toro champs, for junior players. Also, during the year, we supported Duncan Croudis to play in a series of the elite Australian Amateur tournaments. We helped Andrew Whiley with support for the “SNAG in the Park” events in Otago as NZ Golf supports the events but won’t fund them. A number of event’s were planned, with no charge to people taking part. The SNAG equipment is available to be used by clubs and others if they have a need. Other costs to be incurred include signage and advertising. We provided funding of $575. We also acknowledge and appreciate Michael Smith’s support in growing the numbers of juniors in our area and the work that goes into junior tournaments. Also big thanks to Lawrie Warwood for the hours that go into organising Pennants, Minutes etc. Alastair Hinsley Chairman of Metropolitan Men’s Golf Sub-Association

Central Otago Women’s Golf Sub Association

2014 Annual Report I would like to present the 2014 annual report of the Central Otago Women’s Sub Association. This year Molly Purvis, one of our life members, passed away. I’m sure Molly will be remembered when we play for the Central Otago Foursomes trophy she donated, later this year. My condolences to Molly’s family. Over the 2014 golf season a lot of clubs had to contend with adverse weather conditions, with wet, heavy courses and numerous days cancelled. The Central Otago v South Otago fixture was held at Roxburgh in March; Central retaining the Silver and the Bronze division being jointly held. In April the National teams event was held in Alexandra, with Tapanui being the winners. Tapanui also won the Otago pennant final, which was hosted by Cromwell. The Central Otago Foursomes were held in Arrowtown and attracted 86 entries. A great day was had by all. Ranfurly hosted the Veterans in conjunction with their annual tournament. A field of 38 played. This year the Central Otago Championships were held in Cromwell. Although a little windy, 51 players attended; a great effort. Dunstan hosted the Central Otago Nine Hole Championships, in October, with a field of 51. Cromwell also played host to the New Zealand Autumn Foursomes. The committee did a great job; Cromwell you did us proud. Many thanks to all the clubs who have hosted Central Otago fixtures this year; also the Selectors. My gratitude to Val, our Secretary, for all the long hours and hard work for Central Otago golf. It is a pleasure to work with you. In closing, I’d like to wish all clubs a successful golfing season for 2015. Annette Heckler President Central Otago Women’s Golf Sub Association

Central Otago Golf Sub Association Presidents Report for the Otago Golf AGM April 11 2015

The Central Otago report will cover key issues important to the ongoing success of golf in the region, a summary of events, results and individual C.O. representation and of course financial position. I will also give special mention to the contribution of both individuals and groups that have been positive factors for golf in Central Otago. The key issues facing Central Otago Golf include the following….. - Club Member Numbers declining. The number of golf club members in Central Otago declined only marginally. However our golf club membership is ageing and not being replenished by younger golfers. - Pennant Golf Restructure. Pennant Golf in the region will now revert back to the historical method of home and away matches. Due to problems associated with Clubs forfeiting matches or not even turning up for games if they could no longer reach the finals we implemented a system of fines and a competition process of stroke play qualification followed by a matchplay final series. Following a year of the ‘temporary fix’ where the problems were completely resolved we implemented a comprehensive and exhaustive study. All C.O. Clubs were polled on what Pennant System they would prefer to play. The outcome was unanimous in a desire to revert to the historical home and away matchplay process. The penalty for a Team forfeiting a match in the circumstances that forced the initial changes is severe, it is a sanction on the club playing Pennant in the following season. The Pennant Committees belief is that the penalty will force Clubs, Captains and individual golfers to work closely together to ensure the season is completed on time and every match is played. - Youth Participation and Skills Development. The golf clubs in Queenstown were in general not delivering programs to encourage new golfers to the game or develop their skills. Critical Mass was the major inhibiting factor along with financial support. The newest golf club in New Zealand the Wakatipu Junior Golf Club was formed. All Queenstown Golf Clubs transferred their Junior Members to the WJGC. The WJGC Trust raised over $20k in funds, hired Simon Boland as the WJGC convenor and commenced operations late in 2014. The WJGC is a family club where parents are encouraged to participate. They even have a Parent Membership that allows parents to play at any club with their children. The Clubs involved are Frankton GC, Arrowtown GC, Queenstown GC, Millbrook CC, The Hills and Jacks Point. It is early days for the Club but signs are positive that the WJGC is building a group of younger golfers who will in time become active members of other C.O. Golf Clubs. - Apathy, poor communication or too many other things to do. This is reflected in poor attendance at C.O. General Meetings, low numbers at key events like the C.O. Championships, Clubs arranging events that clash with other Clubs events, through individual club golfers having no knowledge of major decisions that effect them or even the schedule of events available to play.

Central Otago was well represented by golfers in Otago Teams. Simon Boland in the Masters, Jamie Anstiss and Mark Brooks in the Seniors at the Interprovincial Events. Inia Logan won his age group in the South Island Championship. In the Central Otago Championship conducted in Alexandra Jamie Anstiss won both the Senior and Junior titles. James is now attending University in America and will represent his college at National Competitions. The Sub Association competition was conducted at Lower Waitaki in April 2014. The Senior Team had a narrow loss to Metro in the final round, the Masters lost on a count back to Metro and the Executive Team as usual performed admirably in winning. The Central vs. Southland fixture was held at Jacks Point in August 2014. The Senior Team had its first win over Southland in 7 years, the Masters lost, and the Executive Team keeping up the good work won again. Alexandra Golf Club successfully conducted the Central Otago Championships in April 2014. The event was conducted without a hitch and our thanks go to the Club Members who freely contributed their time and gave us there course for the day. The Central Otago Championships will be conducted at Queenstown in 2015. The Southland vs Central fixture was conducted at Jacks Point in August 2014. Jacks Point is one of New Zealand’s best courses and we thank the Management Team and Professional staff at Jacks Point for providing an exciting challenge for our two day event. Central Otago Sub Association reported a healthy financial position at the AGM in September 2014. Adjusting for the repayments of Pennant Bonds, held to cover match forfeits, of $3,300 the operations were cash positive and held a net cash position of $14,380. A special vote of thanks to the Otago Eagles Golfing Society who again donated $1040 to our Junior Golf Programs. This donation allows us to support our Junior Golfers in preparation and attendance at National Golf Events. Last year Gavan Herlihy completed his duties as President of the Central Otago Golf Association. Gavan did a wonderful job and had an unmatched win/loss record in Executive Golf competition. Jeri Elliot completed her time as the Central Otago Secretary and I pass on my sincere thanks for all her work supporting C.O. golf. Jeri is replaced by Simon Boland who is well known to probably everyone in Central and Otago as a very competent and knowledgeable golfer. In summary Central Otago Golf Sub Association is healthy but like golf club membership nationally and internationally there are signs of problems ahead. Peter Devine President COGSA

Welcome everyone to the AGM for the North Otago Golf Sub association. I would like to thank you all for the help in running North Otago golf over the past year.
