Naming of Employes Inadvertent, McNayr Says in Statement In an account of a Montgomery County press conference, The Star last Tuesday inadvertently attrib- uted to County Supervisor I. G. Mc- Nayr the names of four persons now employed by Democratic-controlled county offices after their services were terminated by the Republicans. Mr. McNayr, who conducted the press conference, said it was never his intention that the names of the former employes should appear in the press. Mr. McNayr issued the following statement: “In a recent press conference the press representatives were told in confidence the names of persons who had resigned or left the county pay- rolls for reasons of their own, and who subsequently were picked up and placed on the payroll of bi- county commissions or other State- controlled county agencies. “It was never my intention that the names of these former employes should appear in the press. Nor did I imply incompetence or Inefficiency on the part of such employes. My only purpose in making the state- ment was to forestall, if possible, a practice which I do not feel serves the best interests of the taxpayers of Montgomery County. “I hope that the persons whose names appeared will consider this an apology for such use of their names. “Individuals are not meant to be the targets for such statements. Practices and policies of public agen- cies should continue to be criticized.” Book Drive for Holland Opens Here Tomorrow A two-week book drive for Holland will be Inaugurated tomorrow by the Washington chapter of the Nether- lands-Amerlca Foundation. Many schools and libraries were bombed out during the war. Book donations may be left at the United Nations Club, 1701 Nine- teenth street N.W., or the Security Storage Co., 1140 Fifteenth street N.W. Donors also may call Woodley 8669 or Ordway 2027 and the books will be picked up. Books in English are preferred. Births Reported (From the D. C. Bureau of Vital Statistics.) Naming of Employes Inadvertent, McNayr Says in Statement

In an account of a Montgomery County press conference, The Star last Tuesday inadvertently attrib- uted to County Supervisor I. G. Mc- Nayr the names of four persons now employed by Democratic-controlled county offices after their services were terminated by the Republicans.

Mr. McNayr, who conducted the press conference, said it was never his intention that the names of the former employes should appear in the press.

Mr. McNayr issued the following statement:

“In a recent press conference the press representatives were told in confidence the names of persons who had resigned or left the county pay- rolls for reasons of their own, and who subsequently were picked up and placed on the payroll of bi- county commissions or other State- controlled county agencies.

“It was never my intention that the names of these former employes should appear in the press. Nor did I imply incompetence or Inefficiency on the part of such employes. My only purpose in making the state- ment was to forestall, if possible, a

practice which I do not feel serves the best interests of the taxpayers of Montgomery County.

“I hope that the persons whose names appeared will consider this an apology for such use of their names.

“Individuals are not meant to be the targets for such statements. Practices and policies of public agen- cies should continue to be criticized.”
