FUMCs Next Sermon Series

Fixer Upper If you have ever tuned into HGTV’s hit show Fixer Upper, then you have had the chance to get to know Chip and Joanna Gaines. They have this incredible talent of partnering with people and helping them create their dream home. They go through and find these houses that may seem run down, or unwanted, and then they renovate. They restore. They rebuild. How much does that describe our life with Christ? God is always working to show us grace. God is always looking for someone who is willing to open up their lives. Throughout this new series, Fixer Upper, we are going to be talking about just that. In our walk with the Lord, we go from being lost to being found; although our sin ruins, God restores. We want to learn about how if we turn to God, God can rebuild us. Together we can recognize the beauty of how God works in our lives, that is, from the inside out. In the midst of that, God keeps working on us. We may continue to struggle, but God continues to restore and sanctify. And finally, the big reveal. Just like in the show, Fixer Upper, the family has the opportunity to be surprised by the work that has been done. We are able to look back at what God has done in our lives and we will be amazed. We would love it if you would join us for this new series starting on January 7th.

Glen Lake Camp is beginning their Registrations for Summer Camp. They have family camps where 3rd grade and under can go with their family and have quality family time through camp activities and worship. You can register online at www.glenlake.org. There are several camps listed for each age group (grade level for fall 2018). If you register before Feb.1 you save $25 with their early bird special. If you register online please let me know.

Vacation Bible School will be on July 9-12 from 9:00-12:00. I know a lot of parents

are already signing up for camps this summer. Please save the second week in July for

Vacation Bible School. Our theme this year will be “Rolling River Rampage”.

Preschool had a wonderful Christmas Performance. The children acted out the Christmas Story through a play

while the music of “I Believe” was played. Santa Claus came at the end to the excitement of the children.

We will begin the Fish Reward Program in January. You will get a Fish for attendance to Sunday School, Children’s Church & Cherub Bells. The more fish you collect the bigger the prize. We will have a chart to help you save your fish for the bigger prizes.

We are starting a Playground Campaign. We are wanting to raise money to build a bigger playground across the driveway and behind the preschool house. The current playground is for the younger children. The new playground will have a play structure for older children. We are wanting to also have picnic tables and benches. The bulletin board has envelopes that you can take out a card and turn in the amount of money that is on the card to Dawn Clay, Donna Jackson or Belinda Taylor. We are also taking any donations.

Jesus: The Greatest Life of All A FUMC|MEN Bible Study

Jesus Christ. He is, without question, the most influential person in history. Millions of people claim the truths of the religion that bears his name. But who exactly is Jesus? A popular religious teacher? An ancient martyr? Many today are unsure. Even scholars debate whether the Jesus of history is the Christ of faith. Now, more than ever, we need a clear understanding of the person and work of the man millions call Savior. This study will introduce you to the carpenter from Nazareth as you have never seen him before. Filled with historical and biblical insights, you will be taken on an unforgettable journey through the complex and provocative life of Jesus of Nazareth. His unique birth. His astonishing power. His controversial teaching. His shocking death. And his world-changing resurrection. Whether you are just curious about Jesus or a longtime follower of his life and teachings, you’ll experience his life in a new way through this study.

Jesus: The Greatest Life of All is a 4-week Bible Study on Thursday mornings, beginning January 11th. Schedule: 5:30 a.m. – Show up early if you’d like to help cook breakfast.

6:30 a.m. – Breakfast (and it’s great!). 7:00 a.m. – Bible Study. 8:00 a.m. – Dismiss.

Pastor’s Power Lunch – The Bible Book By Book Mondays from 12 to 1 p.m. | Martin Hall | Beginning January 22nd

“Pastor’s Power Lunch: The Bible Book by Book” provides a fresh overview of every book of the Bible. Sometimes we can be so immersed in the details of a particular passage or verse that we do not realize the purpose and importance of each Bible book. This study will provide the big view through each book's summary, outline, key teachings, and its great relevance for today. Join Pastor Steven Bell from 12 to 1 p.m. on Mondays, beginning January 22nd in Martin Hall at FUMC. Bring a lunch, and encounter God during this time of Bible Study.

Christmas Music Service “What magnificent services we had on December 10th, led by our Children’s Choir, Grace Notes Flute Choir, Adult Handbell Choir, Current Band, Sanctuary Chancel Choir, and FUMC Music Staff. A special thanks goes to Christopher Price for the vision he had in putting this masterpiece together. We also thank Robert Herod, Chris Cofer, and Ann Bell for addressing the technical sides of the services; and Jaelyn Bergey and Ned Easterling for the meaningful drama that preached such a powerful sermon to us.”

The Wesley Center at FUMC

Meredith, Antinaya, Alexis, and I welcome you to visit us on the third floor. We are so thankful and excited to begin this

adventure with FUMC. Meredith, Steven, and I have been talking about Corsicana outreach from the first time I met them

before they even arrived at FUMC. We continued to visit for two years casually about how the Methodist Church across

America was focusing outward in their communities and re-purposing their churches to face outward. Steven and Meredith

introduced me to a nonprofit group called the Missional Wisdom Foundation, which grew out of White's Chapel in

Southlake, TX. Please visit their website, the read is so inspirational.

Fast forward a year, Steven, Meredith and I met with the Missional Wisdom Foundation team. Fast forward two years,

which is today, we have toured White Rock Methodist's The Mix and Owenwood, both in White Rock Lake area in

Dallas. The Mix is located in their basement and Owenwood is being completely re-purposed. I invite you to read and

explore their websites.

The Wesley Center is built on these models and our vision is to be a community catalyst where our neighbors of all ages

connect with their neighbors, learn to lead, and make changes that strengthen the community where their family lives.

Our Community Development Model is simple, but powerful. It requires a commitment and collaborative effort with local

organizations, churches, residents, and stakeholders. Our stakeholders are our neighbors. We use an ASSET-BASED

approach that aims to build on the strengths and capacities of the community. We feel everyone has an asset they can share

with another and then another.

Monday, I met with Diane Frost, CISD Superintendent. Our relationship with CISD, along with our commitment to the

mentoring program, is truly a blessing.

Today, our Read Together program is reading to 49 Fannin students. Fannin needs 25 more reading mentors if anyone has

not signed up or would like to sign up. We are launching our program to Carroll Elementary 2nd graders next semester and

will recruit 75 mentors. Please consider asking your neighbors or co-workers to become part of our team and community.

We will begin to partner with our local factories, company’s, banks, and chamber, etc. to recruit.

Today at Fannin, Principal Karen Kopp reported that one of our 2nd grade mentees was reading at kindergarten level at the

beginning of the school year and just recently the student tested (after having the student’s reading mentor) on grade level.

That is truly amazing and awe-inspiring.

Please come visit us on 3rd floor, you may see Alexis Enriquez or Antinaya Higgins. Both are students at Navarro College

and a vital part of the United Christian Fellowship (UCF Wesley Foundation at Navarro College). We are so happy and

fortunate to have them as Wesley Center interns (these internships are supported through a grant acquired by the UCF).

Meredith and I daily are so blessed and honored to be a part of FUMC and Wesley Center. Have a Merry Christmas and

we look forward to working with and seeing you all at The Wesley Center.

Memorials To My Fellow Church Member, We have received a good number of pledge cards for the coming year! However, we would still like every member who supports the church financially to proceed with turning in your pledge card. Remember that it is only an estimate of giving. It can be altered if your circumstances change. The cards merely give us an idea of what ministries we can afford for our members and our programs, such as the wonderful Christmas music we experienced on December 10, 2017. Please get your card to the church office before the end of December! Neal Green, Sr., Stewardship Chair
