Today’s Program... As part of the program organized by the Member-ship Committee, we were treated to the second annual ladies fashion show, produced by Glenda Maten and her cast of volunteer models. Words cannot adequately describe the creativity of this group but an attempt will be made. Wendy Chaiken was a “Bag Lady”, dressed in
bags and toting bags. Get bags of all types in Office Supplies.
Glenda Maten (Toys & Women’s) High Society Lady. Gold ruffled suit, plastic & felt purse and “hamburger hat”. Just lovely.
Joan Masters (Women’s Wear). Orange polyes-ter dress with sparkles and sparkly black shawl and shoes. Halloween Party?
Ruth Dunham (Toys/Linens). Madam Ruth, head of the House of Fun and Games. Good times are in (our) store.
Gloria Bignall (Linens). Short black skirt with black fishnet stockings. Very glamor-ous indeed.
Jill Damon (Infants). Very exotic costume that might be seen in India. Or not.
Carol Ziegler (Women’s). Very dramatic with gloves and a fantastic hairdo.
Joan Mathews (Women’s). A long sleeved flingy evening gown topped off with a gold rhinestone cap. WOW!
Beth Kenney (Women’s). Faux muskrat fur coat hiding a rhinestone top and ruffly pantaloons. Looking for a party.
Karen Gallup (Women’s). Wanda Wannabee was dazzling with her cape and match-ing hand woven skirt of unknown origin. The straw hat and eyewear were a perfect complement.
Magda Herkhof (Women’s). Green raingear and bonnet can be worn on any occa-sion. Ooh La La
The entertainment was much appreciated. Match the descriptions with the models in the photos if you can!

Fines and Happy Dollars… Fines: Dale Leslie fined Nick Dever for looking vulnerable with his arm in a sling. Al Gal-lup was included in case he had twisted Nick’s arm to get him to sit at his table. Harry Cross fined any table that had a person sitting at it who did not have the correct num-ber. Don McEwen fined any table with no guest. Dan Dever fined everyone (unless car-rying a Petosky Stone?).
Happy Dollars: Today’s H-D were mostly bittersweet testimonies to the life of Al Dai-ley. Jeanette Okuley recalled meeting Al while working for affordable housing in Washtenaw County. Ron Williams gave $1 to announce that he missed a recent meet-ing while celebrating his 60th anniversary and $4 in honor of his “best friend” Al. Former Lt. Governor Linda Lawther credited Al with mentoring her and many others. She also extended greetings from the Ypsilanti club. Clar Dukes also knew Al for a very long time. He thanked Joe Medrano for a poem relating to shared loss. Sherry Springer saw his great friend Al at the Past President’s Picnic last Wednesday. Lynne Lande remarked on all her great memories of Al, especially his encouragement during her presidencies. Bob Carr thought of the resemblance between Al and the life-sized wooden eagle he posed next to at the Past President’s Picnic. John Dahl thanked Bob Gray for the slide show honoring Al, which displayed continuously during the meeting.

Our Sponsored Programs… Service to Youth:
Presentations... George Gilligan wrote a tribute to Al Dailey, read by John Dahl. He praised
Al’s leadership on many fronts and thought his spirit and enthusiasm will remain with
us. George’s comments are presented here:
It was a shock to hear of Al’s untimely passing. He was a pillar of the Michigan Kiwanis community and wore many hats in doing the work of Kiwanis at the State level, in our Club
and other clubs he served as President. Al followed me in my Presidency of our Club and we discussed many issues over the years concerning Kiwanis and how we can do a better job of serving others. His way of taking complicated issues and breaking them down to
more simplistic issues was legendary. Al didn’t suffer fools, and didn’t like long, drawn out meetings, but would rather define the issue and get on with it. He was a good friend who did excellent work and will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and
working with him. Al’s Kiwanis spirit and enthusiasm will remain with us although he is no
longer among us. May he rest in peace.
Ann Mattson read her own tribute to Al’s effect on local, state, and international Kiwanis. He was president of
the club in 2005-06. He published our weekly newsletter. He was Executive Director of the Michigan District for
years. This year he was serving as Chair of the Sale Management Oversight Committee (SMOC) and was a mem-ber of the Budget and Finance, Long-Range Planning, and Kiwanis of Michigan Foundation Committees. He spear-headed our efforts in the Kids Against Hunger Program and much more. Al’s wife Sue is a volunteer and his
grandson Greg has started volunteering. He chaired Sue Petresin’s campaign for a seat on the board of Kiwanis International and her successful campaign for KI president-elect. He was also a kind and gentle person, appreciat-
ed by all.
