Introduction

OECD Subscription Products

Today, the vast majority of users reading OECD publications are reading them online, many through our online platform, the OECD iLibrary, which is widely made available to users at academic institutions, government agencies, and think tanks by their libraries. Of course, print subscriptions to OECD periodicals and annuals are still available, but they now include online access enabling libraries to offer them to their users online. Customers can choose to subscribe to the entire OECD iLibrary, or just to segments of it, according to their needs.

OECD iLibrary

The OECD iLibrary is the research repository gathering all OECD books, papers, and databases and data tables onto a single platform, through which they can be discovered, accessed and viewed. The OECD iLibrary is made available on a subscription basis; institutions subscribe and enable online access to users via IP authentication and/or username/password. Institutions can choose between the options of online access only, or Online + Archive. The Online + Archive option includes online access as well as one copy of each new print publication (or CD-ROM in the case of statistical databases) that is published during the subscription period. Institutions can choose to subscribe to the entire library, to everything in a theme, or to individual periodicals, statistical annuals or databases. In addition all working papers and policy papers are available online.

Introduction

OECD iLibrary Thematic Subscriptions

Subscriptions to OECD iLibrary themes include access not only to all the relevant books published since 1998 (and in some cases even earlier) in the theme, but also to related periodicals, annuals, statistical databases and tables. As is the case with the full OECD iLibrary access, institutions can choose Online Only or Online + Archive. Online + Archive includes online access to all books, periodicals, tables, and databases plus one copy of each new print publication published during the subscription period and an archival CD-ROM when a database is part of the package. The Online Only option includes online access to all books, periodicals, tables, and databases.

OECD Periodical Subscriptions

OECD publishes a number of periodicals with issues appearing multiple times per year. Online Only subscriptions to these periodicals include access through the OECD iLibrary to all issues available online, usually since 1998. In the case of the OECD Economic Surveys online access includes all editions from the very first one in 1961; and for the OECD Economic Outlook from the very first edition in 1967. In addition to online access, subscribers with the Online + Archive option receive print copies of all editions published in the subscription period. Online access is immediately available through the OECD iLibrary at the time of the publication release whereas the delivery of printed versions may take some time. In the case of selected journals, articles are published online as they come available, without waiting for the full issue.

OECD Statistical Annuals

OECD publishes numerous statistical publications on an annual or biennial basis, with content mainly published in table format. Online only subscriptions include access not only to the PDF version of the publication, but also to the statistical tables in XLS, HTML, READ and PDF formats enabling users to cut and paste data and tables into their own work. Those choosing Online + Archive receive a print copy of the publication as well as online access. These new subscriptions replace the old individual standing orders, which did not offer any online access. And should you decide to drop the print delivery (Online + Archive) and subscribe to online only, the price is 30% lower.

OECD Statistical Packages

OECD publishes statistical databases on a wide variety of topics, many of which have related periodicals that include ready-made Excel® and HTML tables. In keeping with our policy of trying to make statistics as accessible and user friendly as we can, we are now including with statistical database subscriptions, access to the related publication PDF, READ and table files. Those subscribing to Online Only receive access to the online database as well as to the PDF, READ and table files of related publications. Those subscribing to Online + Archive receive, in addition, an archival CD-ROM of the database as well as print copies of related issues published during the subscription period. For subscribers to the statistical databases from the International Energy Agency (IEA) only online access is offered and the related publications are not included.

OECD Observer / Yearbook

The OECD Observer is the organisations’s quarterly magazine featuring articles by in-house experts and external guests. Each issue includes an editorial by the Secretary-General, news items about what is going on in the organisation, articles by theme, listings of new publications, book reviews, and interesting data nuggets as well as a data bank covering the latest economic data for OECD countries and their key partners.

Bundled with the OECD Observer is the annual OECD Yearbook. As well as article by prominent contributors, it includes country snapshots for each OECD and BRIICS country showing key statistical information, interesting facts, a summary of recent economic developments, and other information.

Books, Papers and StatisticsThe OECD iLibrary is the global knowledge base of OECD’s data and analysis. It contains all books and papers published since 1998 (earlier for OECD Economic Surveys, the OECD Economic Outlook, and ITF publications) – as well as a vast collection of statistics, with data going back as far as the early 1960s in some cases. Users can search and click directly to chapters, articles, books, data tables, and databases. Content is available in different formats and languages. Coverage is provided for the OECD, the OECD Development Centre, the International Energy Agency, the Nuclear Energy Agency and the International Transport Forum. However, the subscription does not include IEA databases, which must be subscribed to separately.

Online + Archive includes online access to all books, periodical issues and databases along with copies of all books and periodicals issues published during the subscription period as well as archival copies of CD-ROMs for each statistical database. Data are provided for the period 1975 onwards for all OECD countries. Country data are normally provided in national currencies. Comparable data tables show taxation and social security contributions as a percentage of GDP. The Taxing Wages database provides information on taxes paid and benefits received by workers under 8 different income and family composition situations. - Between 1965 and 2009 in the OECD area as a whole, the tax burden – including social security contributions – has risen from 25.4 per cent to 33.8 per cent of GDP (unweighted averages), or by 8.4 percentage points. - In 2009, personal income taxes had ceased to be the largest single source of revenue for OECD countries as a whole. Their share had shrunk to 25 per cent of total taxes from 30 per cent in the mid 1980s. Source: Revenue Statistics 2011
