The 2018 OEC Executive Speaker Series Luncheons continue Monday, April 23 at the
Petroleum Club. The speaker will be Roddie Mackenzie who is Vice President, Marketing and
Contracts, Transocean Ltd. Topic will be: Better times ahead – turning focus to sustainable
environment in which to conduct business.
Before being named to his current position in 2017, Mr. Mackenzie served as Managing
Director, Business Development and Strategic Accounts, and previously as Marketing Director
with increasing roles of responsibility in the United States, France, and Dubai. He brings 20
years of industry experience, and prior to his time in Marketing Mr. Mackenzie served in various
operational and project roles around the globe, starting his career at Transocean as a rig-based
engineer in 1997. He has worked on all manner of drilling rigs in Algeria, Nigeria, Cameroon,
Angola, Brazil, and the US Gulf of Mexico.
Mr. Mackenzie graduated from the Harvard Business School Advanced Management
Program in 2016 and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Strathclyde in Civil
Engineering with Environmental Studies in 1997.
Executive Speaker Series Luncheons begin at 11:30 a.m. with registration and networking.
Tickets are $50 per person or $500 for a table of ten. At the time of publication sponsors include
Apache, BP, Noble Energy, NOV, Schlumberger, Shell, TechnipFMC and Transocean.
Sponsorships are still available. Sponsors receive a premium table for ten at each luncheon,
recognition on event signage, registration materials and in the quarterly newsletter, The Star. If

The OEC SOCIETY hosted the third “Women WithEnergy Summit” on March 27 at the Junior League ofHouston. OEC SOCIETY Chairman, Joy Hall was theMaster Of Ceremony and opened the event thanking the sponsors, presenters and attendees.
A very special thank you to Schlumbergerwho generously sponsored the Women withEnergy Summit.
This dynamic event connected and provided over 200attendees within the offshore and energy industries with aunique professional development afternoon with energy leaderson the rise. The panelists and topics related to momentumwith project development, hiring, industry trends and positiveenergy through communication styles for the advancement ofcareers for women in the oil and gas industry.
The event began promptly at 11:15 with lunch followedby the first panel that was entitled “Energy Leaders”.Schlumberger’s Paula McCann Harris moderated the panelwhich consisted of Linda Ibrahim, Vice President Tax andGovernment Compliance, Vantage Drilling; Karen Davis,Manager Marine Assurance, ConocoPhillips; CarrieLockhart, Sr. VP US Offshore Development, Statoil andDenise Cox, President, Storm Energy & President-Elect,American Association Petroleum Geologists.

A second panel, “Energy Revival”, was moderatedby Libby Cheney, Chief Operating Officer, Cheney EnergyPartners, LLC. The panelists were Randall Luthi, President,NOIA; Renee Klimczak, Managing Director, GalwayGroup and James Parr, Consultant.
The final panel of the day, “Energy Networks” was moderated by Terry Bonno, Sr. VP Marketing, Transocean.The four panelists were Elizabeth Simenstad, Founder &Editor, Sea Sisters.org; Ally Cedeno, Founder, WomenOffshore.org; Katie Mehnert, CEO & Founder, Pink Petroand Kara Byrne, President, Women’s Energy Network –Houston.

The OEC continues to enjoy success with itsProject E³: Expanding Energy Education work-shops. In the first quarter of 2018, 9 workshopshave been held. According to numbers submittedby the 220 teachers who attended these workshops,over 16,000 students will potentially be impactedthis year.

The Ocean Star held an “overnight” for a group of teachers and studentsfrom Caldwell ISD on March 2. The teachers were Shelly Tucker,Brenda Schroeder, Breana Hardy, and Alex Salazar. In addition tobeing able to visit all of the exhibits, models and interactive displaysabout offshore energy, the students participated in a variety of hands-onactivities that included cupcake geology, insulators and conductors, andderricks of distinction.
The Ocean Star is proud to be a part of the Blue Star Museums 2018 program. For the past eight years, the NationalEndowment for the Arts (NEA) has collaborated with Blue Star Families and the U.S. Department of Defense on BlueStar Museums, a program which provides free museum admission to active duty military and their families all summerlong. Each year, more than 2,000 museums participate, reaching on average more than 856,000 military members andtheir families. The Ocean Star is included on the NEA Blue Star Museums map and website, providing a national platformto showcase the Ocean Star to the military community. The Blue Star Museums program sends our nation's militaryfamilies a clear signal, that the museums of the nation recognize and honor their contributions by opening their doorsto share the treasures of the nation with those who have been serving so long and so faithfully.
Students from Rainard School in Houston visited the Ocean Star in February for a tour and an activity program, which was “Hear, Hear Engineer” in which the students make an objectfrom Legos® then write the instructions so another student can then make the same object.

Ocean Star NewsOcean Star NewsOcean Star welcomes visitors from Baku, Azerbaijan
George A. Santulli, Contract TV Producer with theU.S. Department of State, Foreign Press Center inWashington, D.C. contacted the Ocean Star in earlyJanuary with a proposal to bring a group from Baku,Azerbaijan to the museum to film some information aboutthe oil and gas industry as well as the Ocean Star Museum.The project is to produce stories on the U.S. – Azerbaijanrelations and include the oil and gas connections asHouston and Baku both produce oil and gas.
On February 15, Santulli and three visitors from theCBC TV network in Baku arrived at the Ocean Star for atour and interviews. CBC TV plans a series of programsin three languages (Azerbaijani, Russian and English)focusing on U.S./Azerbaijan Energy and Trade Relations.
